“best car yet!”

★★★★★

written by Cassiusg48 on 21/05/2014

since me and my husband brougt our first car 4 years ago (an astra 1.8 sri) nothing has come up to standards and we have had a astra van 1.6, an astra sxi 1.6, ford fiesta zetec 1.6 and a tigra 1.4, then we had this car and its unbelievable the preformance is amazing fuel economy is average and street presence is out of this world. the space is suprising and we have had a bulky pram and shopping in boot without a struggle. very childfriendly and i would recommend this car to any individual the tax is ok and isurance for me and my partner is cheap compared to the other cars we have had. would not get rid of this at all this car is a keeper! from sporty lets have a blow out the cobweb day to relaxing around town this car is very versatile and would fit into anyones lifestyle.

written by GeordieLad99 on 16/08/2011

This is, without a doubt, THE worst car I have ever owned. For starters it is the most disgusting shade of green I have ever seen, somewhere between baby puke and kermit poo. What were Vauxhall thinking? The engine is lazy, to say the least and sounds more like an asthmatic puppy than a car. When you really need it, don't even bother calling as it will not be there for you. Many people try to "improve" the performance of these things with ridiculous add-on after market gimmicks like air filters and exhaust mods that do little at best and actually REDUCE the BHP and top speed in most instances. Want my advice? Don't even think about wasting your money on rubbish like this, if you want a better car BUY A BETTER CAR...! I eventually got rid of the eyesore by dumping it on some unsuspecting chump after it had developed a bad oil leak. I actually ended up making money on it against all the odds... The guy REALLY wanted it for some reason. :-)

you chose the colour I presume - or did it just change one night mid ownership? and surely you drove the car, gave the engine a blast before handing over the cash?
What a whiner!- this letter doesn't do much for your own credibility.
To sum up, no costly problems or unreliability but diddems doesn't like the colour any more and wants it to be faster

I have to agree. Why buy it if a) the colour was so bad and 2) if the engine was so poor? Did you not drive it or see it? I agree - you are the chump!

Apart from the engine and colour (again, both of which you should have realised) this is THE worst review ever...

aguably good though mine gave me a problem by breaking the chain guide leading to bending valves of which it needed a lot of money to repair. nw there is a oil leak of which i am worried about.

Can i just say that the people who have reviewed here are mad.
This car has only 146 bhp, how can you overtake 220bhp vxrs, and saying it has a 0-60 time of 5.8 secs which may i ad is the same as a 300bhp focus rs is just plain silly, top speeds in excess of 160 mph i dont think so

anyone who thinks these are quick obviouly is used to driving under powered cars, they are crusers not racers, they are comfy fairly economical, and ok handlers, though obviosly as front wheeled drive they are at a disadvantage in twisty bits.build quality is as per vauxhall,i,e it squeeks and rattles, and the plastic looks cheap, the engine is quite good and fairly torquey, which makes for nice relaxed lazy driving,it is fully loaded with toys, the only one i think they missed a trick with is no de,ice/mist on front windscreen, all in all it is a resonable car that can be got quite cheap and looks nice,if you want something to go long distace it is a good choise,if you want to go fast look else where

The Vauxhall Astra 2.2 16 Coupe Bertone Edition is a very nice car, still a great looker... has a certain classic coupe allure which will probably never be out of style. Nice steering, very very stable with the factory sports suspension, good audio in standard, alcantara black/white interior is very nice.

I have a factory De-badged 2.2 cabrio all black, I have bee to Spain several times with it and people always look at it and wonder what it is.There is only the Vauxhall badge in the center of the boot lid and Europeans don't know what it is as they are used to Opel.

★★★★★

written by shootmybum on 14/04/2009

The main thing I liked about the Vauxhall Astra 2.2 16 Coupe Bertone Edition was the power, and this car has a lot of it. I know this because I took it to a test track, put my foot down and these were the results:
TOP SPEED: 165mph
0-60: 5.8secs
Some cars I over took: Mini Cooper S, VW Golf GTi, BMW M5d, Vauxhall VXR220 TURBO and it beat an Audi TT in a drag.

It's only got 147PS how on earth can it do 165mph 0-60 in 5.8 secs?

I disagree with this review because...

An Astra 2.2 Cabrio has 147PS standard and can't do 165MPH and 0-60 in 5.8 secs.
Even a supercharged 2.2 with 250PS would struggle to match those figures. I'd wager yours isn't anywhere near that

written by on 01/04/2009

Vauxhall Astra 2.2 16 Coupe Bertone Edition is not a sports car, it is a boulevard cruiser, a [low speed] 'show-off' car, especially in the 'Centenary Blue' of the Edition 100. Don't fit a loud exhaust, it dosen't suit its' character. The 2.2 engine was designed for smoothness not speed and when driven as above can be very fuel efficient. You won't notice the noise from its' wide tyres with the roof retracted. Its' centre consul plastic looks cheap. Try to keep all the gear selector moving parts wet with lube. you'll feel the difference.

i recently bought my bertone 2.2 16valve, on a 54 plate. im delighted, its much quicker and more powerful than i expected it to be. in my opinion its much cheaper to run, insure and purchase than a bmw, lacks the prestige of bmws, mercs or audis.
slightly dated interior. but certainly packs just as much punch. if thats not good enough, go for the 2 litre turbo which houses an extra 50ish bhp. its a very sporty coupe, and touch wood, has been very reliable so far. quite economic on fuel considering performance,
nippy, quiet enough engine, spacious both in the front and the back, tonnes of boot space.

written by on 21/11/2008

Since I bought the car I had nothing but trouble! Started off with fuel smell then parts of the exhaust kept breaking all the way up to the manifold. Then my speedometer stopped working, my radiator then started leaking and to top it all off when I am slowing down the car just cuts out. Probably the worst car I have ever owned.
This car has put me off ever wanting to buy a Vauxhall car again!

This car looks from the outside are very impressive it looks good from all angles. The roof is keeps a lot of road noise out when up and when down the car keep loking fantastic evry things is still the same as the day it come off the productions line (well built). this car make you look out of the window in the morning just to make you see if you can put the roof down. This is a really good cruising car with the top down, if you don't drive it hard I can get 40/41 mpg mixed miles. Which is not bad for 2.2 petrol.

Flick a switch and the roof is neatly tucked away and you have a sporty speed machine! Fantastic sporty good looking and reliable. What more do you want?
