Bannatyne Health Clubs Membership OK , I went for the classes but when I came to leave it was a nightmare. People constantly chasing me for ongoing membership.
Its like the line from the Eagles. You can check out but never leave.

Bannatyne gym is basic and classes are irregular and seem to be rushed! gym staff and cleaning staff are helpful and friendly however I felt that one member of staff was rude to me and after six months they still hadn't gotten around to arranging my direct debit and twice i paid in the club via card and then, as they made an admin error, had to get bank statements to prove this! I made 27 calls to the club to arrange direct debits but was never once, even when i went into complain personal, called back. To say i was unsatisfied is an understatement , i am now at Virgin active Birmingham for the same price, where i receive excellent service, better facility, up to date equipment and superior choice of classes! As well as being spoken to in a professional manner, well done Virgin active!

After filling out the form about all my health issues, I re-iterated to the trainer that I had bad knees. He advised that I use the X-trainer, which I tried during the induction until it became uncomfortable. He said there would be discomfort initially, but to keep trying. On my first day, I was on the X-trainer for 35 seconds before I felt an incredible pain in my right knee. I told the trainer on my way out, but there was no advice on how to handle the situation. Unfortunately, I was unable to see a doctor at that time. To cut a long story short, I am now unable to walk any real distance without pain. I have had to have an arthroscopy to that knee and will probably have to have a knee replacement in the not-so-distant future (I am only 52). Bannatynes' response to my letter of complaint was dismissive at best. They simply wrote from head office to say that training is developed using information from the member (duh! I told him I had bad knees) and that it would be passed on to the Hastings club. (Had they looked at the letter, they would have seen that I had sent a copy of the letter to the Hastings club already.) Because of Bannatynes, I am now in constant pain and unable to enjoy walking as I used to.
Shame on them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Blackpool Bannatynes is ok, Cost is my main complaint, as they don't seem to give many concesions to disabled people who need carers to help them, I had to pay for myself and my carer.

The managemant seem to be are more than happy to see members work out in dirty, extremely hot and unpleasant conditions while happily taking members subcriptions. It is appalling.

Don't join. They have the worst terms and conditions especially compared to Livingwell. They bought Livingwell and then took everything away that was good, despite telling everybody their terms and conditions would be honoured!

Milton Keynes Definately not as good a 'club' as Living Well was.

Bannatyne's Solihull is truly the best health club I have been with. I joined nearly 3 years ago and I absolutely love it. The best thing is you always feel comfortable and motivated to go back. I go twice a week and go to 2 classes. I know the staff well and they are always pleased to see me. Overall... Excellent!!

Over the past few months I have had reason to complain about several problems experienced in Wakefield. Becoming seriously frustrated I put these complaints in writing to head office - as a result I received a letter back stating 'the concerns raised actually give myself (MD) great concern over your ability to safely use our health club or any other fitness facility due to your severely limited vision' If you wish to know more contents of the letter please pass on your comments.

Lowestoft club is getting very tired and need of tlc. Good selection of classes and excellent instructors. Equipment ok but in need of a good clean, along with the rest of the place, especially the showers. Staff are polite and helpful, but get the impression they don't like working there. Have overheard staff talking that the general manager is totally useless at her job and have yet to hear a nice word said about her from members as well as staff.

I am a member at Banbury, the most annoying part of the whole Bannatyne experience for me is there does seem to be a number of chavy youths who just come along to chat on the weights (v annoying when you are waiting to get on them). The First Fitness equipment is great (when it isn't broken down that is). The personal trainers make the place, they really know their stuff and will put you through your paces to achieve your goals. It doesn't feel pretentious; as there is a great mix of different ages going.

I was a member for 1 year and i am not impressed by the level of quality for what is supposed to be a premium health club, i have now joned oasis which is far better value.

I do not recommend this club to anyone.

I do not recomend this unhealthy club. given what they charge and the service they provide.
there are much better clubs near by without any health and safety issue.
after joining I visited the place only once and experienced the worse evening I have had in any health club.
on the same evening I asked for my membership to be cancelled. After being told that they can not do this I recieved a letter from informing me that the maintenamce is on going and I have to pay the 6 month fee otherwise legal action will be taken.
I would not recommend Bannatyne Health Clubs

I am a 76 year old member of the Wakefield Bannatyne Health Club, and from a physical, and psychological point of view, this is the best club yet. The ever welcoming friendly staff, in every deparment, are a credit to the establishment. I am an ex self made business man, and as such can often be over critical, but try as I will, I cannot find any room for improvements--It is perfect. I train three times a week, and often stay for breakfast, followed by a read of the morning paper. To sum this up, the club is more of a social thing, and the training is of secondary importance to me. You have done a brilliant job ! Keep up the good work. All the very best to you and yours, Charlie Walker.

Wakey's Response to myowzer123's Review

The review of Rotherham sounds very much like Wakefield - particularly the disabled parking. The manager is worse than useless, and is extremely ignorant. As for the disabled parking - you won't get any joy there. Bannatynes philosophy seems to be in my opinion people with disabilities don't belong in gyms!
