Written on: 16/05/2008

My advice is to persevere if you have trouble with SCS, because after 9 months they came and collected the sofa which was then 16 months old. It was a total nightmare. the sofa was in my opinion poorly made. Eventually a new manager agreed to have the setee removed and we are free, my other advise do not pay cash always pay on credit as that way you have a chance of getting the case sorted without going to court. Thank you trading standards… Read Full Review

Very good customer service in store. Delivery was on time and all packaging taken away.

Also my wife realised that we had a voucher we could have used to make the purchase (but forgot) however we phoned them up and they applied it retrospectively and refunded our card… Read Full Review

Purchased a leather corner suite which arrived with problems. We have found that SCS Sofas after sales service department is poor and after 5 months of battles involving trading standards, citizens advice and consumer direct had to put into the hands of a solicitor to get anywhere - would never shop there again and would not recommend to anyone… Read Full Review

Written on: 30/04/2008 by PT5 (1 review written)

We purchased a "Love Seat" in January 08 from SCS Milton Keynes on the recommendation of SCS Staff.
Delivered at the end of February 08.
Three weeks later we discovered that the arm was flexing and the seat cushion had collapsed on one side.
SCS rep inspected The Love Seat & said flexing in arm was due manufacturing fault & cushion collapse was due to us not sitting in the dead centre of seat (also he suspected that two people had shared the "Love Seat" & this was not allowed, Even though this… Read Full Review

The SCS Sofas store told us the factory was not working for the 1st two weeks of January (in Yorkshire) After 17 weeks it arrived! There it was: a beautiful red sofa, only one problem, we had ordered brown. It also had a label on it, made in Yorkshire? No a little further east, China to be precise.I am still trying to source my new sofa, but it always somebody else's fault… Read Full Review

Written on: 10/04/2008 by bevandtim (1 review written)

We bought our Washington Corner Group suite (leather with electric recliners) from SCS Sofas on 13th October 2007. We purchased a display model at sale price as we do not like waiting for the long delivery times quoted. Approximately 3-4 weeks after delivery, my girlfriend (then 2 months pregnant) injured herself whilst leaning over the armrest of one of the recliner to pick up a cup of tea from the floor.

We contacted SCS and advised them what had happened and they then sent an upholsterer… Read Full Review

“I would never buy anything again from SCS. I paid ...”

Written on: 04/04/2008

I would never buy anything again from SCS. I paid £2500 in November 2005 for 2 leather couches. The larger of the two couches is now practically sunk on the middle and requires great effort to get up from. It looks dreadful too. Because it didn't completely fall apart within the 12 month warranty SCS don't want to know. Their customer services are a contradiction in itself. Last year I had to claim on the accidental claim warranty (another waste of money) due to ink spillage. The upholsterer… Read Full Review

Written on: 06/03/2008

Wish I had read these reviews before I purchased my settee. The suspension system failed in 4 months and the cushions became flat. Trying to get them to acknowledge the fault was difficult until I explained that I had commissioned the services of the Furniture Ombudsman. Had to take guidance from Consumer Direct and several recorded delivery letters later the Upholster should have come out today to fix - he did not turn up. It has been escalated to Trading Standards. This has now been going… Read Full Review

Having similar problems with SCS Newcastle branch. Could you post how you get on along with any tips on how to get them to back down. Have a suite delivered Dec 07 which has 4 faults and can't get them to sort it. Did you have to pay for the independent upholsters report & how much did it cost? I am thinking of taking them to court as can't believe their treatment is legal. Do they take notice of the upholsters report? I will let you know if I ever win this battle good luck with yours.

Written on: 05/03/2008 by scouse express (1 review written)

The suite we got from SCS sofas is three and a half years old. It has been looked after and my wife and I have a 3.5 year old son and 7 month old daughter. Nobody has ever bounced on or mistreated the suite in any way. we paid £795 for a three seater and two seater blue leather package plus £200 for the only warranty available as mentioned in the bad points section which covers the suite for 5 years. We automatically thought the structure would be covered as well as the simple marking or… Read Full Review

Now on my third leather settee from SCS due to faults on previous two after complaining about second settee was told by SCS the settee had been discontinued so was asked to go and choose a different settee. Suddenly a couple weeks later they were able to get the original settee (found this a bit weird). When the third settee arrived I was not convinced it was brand new but was assured by manager it was. Poor delivery time scales
Mis information given by salesman regarding size ( sofa would not go through the standard size door dispite been told twice that it would

When the original sofa was delivered the delivery men to there credit informed my elderly mother that it was damaged and that they felt it should not be delivered (it had been stored in a warehouse)

We purchased a reclining chair and reclining sofa from SCS Sofas. Ever since they were delivered, the bolts have been falling out of the mechanisms. We reported this, and after quite a long time, a man came out to look at them. He said they both required new mechanisms. We dare not use them now, in case we hurt ourself's. We are both aged 78, and we had hoped to have some comfort for Christmas. I have tried to get some information by phoning SCS after sales service, but was told to contact the… Read Full Review

i bought a sofa and arm chair from scs in june 2007, it was one off the shopfloor, i had it 2 weeks when my home help noticed a split in the chair, i phoned scs, and was told the would send a man would come out to take a leather sample and once he got the leather in stock he would repair the chair, in december i was still waiting for it to be repaired. so enough was enough, i went back to the store and demanded they take the lt back, i then choose another suite, it was a nice cream leather and as i was paying monthly was willing to pay the extra, for the suite was orderd,10 weeks later , my new suite was due to be deliverd and they were talking the damaged one way the same day, but to my horror they dileverd a brown suite, the very same as the one they were taking away, i got the driver to reload the new brown one back onto his lorry, and then i went to the store, i told them it was not what i had orderd, and was told,, oh .. i was not willing to was another 10weeks for the cream one to be deliverd, so once again i picked a show one off the shop floor, it was diliverd 2 day later, the was the 2nd week of december, but then the springs went in the arm chair and also in the sofa, that was in march, the repair man came and fixed them, but 2 weeks ago the springs went again in the arm chair and also a seat coushion on the sofa is splitting along the seam. i phoned scs once again an was told that there repair section would phoned me , they phoned me on the 15th april and said that there repair man would phone me, but still i have not recived a call, i have 2 payments left, and it seems all i have had is poor furnture off them, im very upset and angry, i would never ever use scs again,

I purchased two suites from SCS Sofas on the same day, one for my daughter and one for myself. This cost was nearly £6000. After having ours for about a month my husband and I got back and neck ache after sitting on the suite for any amount of time.
Other visitors to our home also complained of the same thing. After phoning and complaining an upholsterer came and removed some padding.
A month later we let them know this had not helped, out came the upholsterer again this time adding stuffing… Read Full Review

Written on: 14/11/2007 by brettjbuckley (1 review written)

We purchased two sofas in April of 2007 and took delivery in June. So far so good. However, one of the sofas had an electronic recliner which failed on the day of delivery. We reported the problem and several weeks (plus one cancellation) later, an engineer came to our house to investigate. He fiddled around for a while and concluded that we would need a new motor. Despite the "standard" part, he did not carry any on his van and suggested that he had to do a diagnosis visit before SCS… Read Full Review

I found this review helpful because... we bought a sofa from SCS which within a few months the settee is sinking in everywhere some stitching has also broken. we have rejected it as have no faith in the company. All they do is want to send around engineers . we have had two people round to inspect it. We are refusing taking more time off work to entertain another visit, this is after 6 months of complaining. We were first called liars by the original engineer. They try and fob you off with anything. I am sick to death of this company and the lack of regard for their customers. We have a sofa that we cannot sit on, instead of relaxing we have chronic backahes and are under stress.

We are in the process of getting ScS to do something about it and reading all these complaints I am not hopefull that it will be resolved eaily or quickly.

I am also having a 'battle' with SCS over a sofa where the cushions have sunk down to reveal the wooden bar at the back of it and they are refusing to do anything about it, their customer services team take forever to respond and then do so with letters which just repeat themselves - saying 'it is not a manufacturing fault' when sofas that cost £800 cannot be expected to last less than year!

Written on: 08/04/2008

We brought a sofa in October 2007 from SCS and finally received it 21st December 2007. After one month of use and it was coming apart at the seams on most cushions we had three engineers out on separate occasions and was told they would replace the broken cushions, but when even more of the settee was coming apart we said enough is enough we had already been to the store around 20 times and had even taken the cushions down with us . We asked for a full refund they replied they would have to get the manufacturer to come have a look at the sofa, even though the engineer has been out already and had a look hadtaken pictures etc, anyway some time later I had to phone the store back because they was not getting back tom me and they told me they are now waiting for someone to come and collect the sofa from me they just need a reference number from the manufacturer. I am still waiting for that number to come through the store told me not to phone them again that they would phone me.
