“Totally misleading information”

★★☆☆☆

written by Romeoy171 on 18/07/2017

I insured my second car through saga. This is a car used for classic car shows. I contacted the company to ask about modifications. I explained that wanted to fit four rally lights and some decals to create a homage to the rally cars of the period. I was told the decals were fine, but I could only fit two spotlights. I went ahead with the mods and informed the company. I even offered them a picture for their records and duly sent it to them. Imagine my surprise when they cancelled my insurance due to having decals on my car? This, despite them telling me it was OK. It seems that if you are over 50 (I'm 62, by the way) it's alright to go on a Saga holiday including an African safari, but woe be tied if you want to drive something slightly modified, even if you haven't affected the performance in any way.

“Shockingly bad service from Saga - AVOID AVOID AVOID”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Griffith453 on 14/06/2017

Shockingly bad handling of my accident claim and resolution offer. Garage they offered me to repair car were appauling. Firstly they gave me a hire car with a punture and a boot full of rubbish. After being repaired garage bought my car back with white paint all over it, it was collected again and paint removed then it was returned again with screws and bolts missing from the rear wheel arch, collected car again and i was told now all resolved so returned car to me a third time with absolutely no petrol ( i ran out of fuel trying to get to petrol station ) Only to find 3 screws and clips still missing. Garage refused to take car back again and told me to do it myself. ! Locking alloy wheel nut went missing the garage lost it but failed to replace it causing me lots of stress and problems getting a replacement from abroad. Car was not repaired properly and kept jolting and pulling to one side at speed with rear sensors going off and static electric shocks when exiting the car. Complained to garage who didnt want to know and refused to take car back. Complained to Saga who failed to get garage to take car back. Saga finally arranged for independant assessor to come out who failed to turn up for appointment causing me another morning off work. Made another appointment and engineer was here literally 5 minutes and was a total waste of space. Saga then told me to take car to Ford garage for a diagnostic and we took the day off work only to be told by the Ford garage in Epsom at 5pm that were too busy to do diagnostic and i had to re book. After 7 months of stress and problems and many complaints to Saga and garage who undertook the repair i got nowhere. i sold the car and bought an exact as new replacement leaving me £5000 out of pocket. Waited 2 months for Saga complaints team to investigate the issues I contacted them the day of their 8 week deadline to be offered £100 Bought this car from new for £16000 and it was hit when only a months old. I had purchased vehicle for the long term with only a few thousand miles on the clock. How dare Saga insult me with such an appauling offer. Shocking service from start to finish AVOID AVOID AVOID !!!!!!

“Lazy Customer Services”

★☆☆☆☆

written by jdybnsn2 on 11/06/2017

Rang to change my policy as I had changed my car 15 minutes before their phone line closed. However, really annoyed to find that although they will answer the phone, they not deal with your call - they want to give you a 24 hour call back instead. Simply just lazy !! Why not just close your phone line earlier instead of irritating your customer by refusing to deal with enquiries there & then. By the time they take your details could have sorted things...If I had wanted to called you tomorrow I would have done so - NO I want to speak to you TODAY when you say you are OPEN !! Clearly you are not open 15 mins before you close, so DO NOT ADVERTISE THAT YOU ARE !! I won't be renewing with you again because I so hacked off with this kind of customer unfriendly, annoying type of stupid way of operating. Life is too short to be dealing with this sort of company. Suggest management go on a proper customer services training course.

“Disgusting ”

I wouldn't touch this insurance firm again with a barge pole, my husbands car was torched when he left it over night in our local pub car park on early hours of Monday morning, we informed saga straight away as so did the other two people who's cars were damaged there's were removed within one and a half hrs, ours is still there burnt out dangerous vehicle to the public and a eyesore for the liscencee who owns the pub as it's giving her business the wrong impression, to be told again tonight that it will be tomorrow now. Their quick enough to take your money but not to look after your car and claim as you pay them to. AVOID this firm

“Do not use Saga.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 246Clay on 30/04/2017

Do not use Saga. When you have an accident their customer service is diabolical. They are so un organised and un-professional. It takes for ever for them to reply to an email. Also they hide key information in the terms and conditions and do not put in on the policy. As they are dealing with vulnerable people they should operate in a more professional manner.

“Excellent serviced”

★★★★★

written by JenniferAnneS on 16/03/2017

I am insured with Saga and had an incident with my car, and because it was old it was written off! The service from Saga has been excellent from the friendly and efficient people at the end of the phone to organising a courtesy car and ending today with the payment arriving. All this took just one month, I can't praise them enough, I'll be staying with them when my insurance is due for renewal if the quote is reasonable.

I would stay clear of saga, if you have an accident they will not back you, you will receive no support what so ever, I would rather risk driving uninsured than sign up with them.

“I want my car back”

★★☆☆☆

written by Luciang1991 on 16/02/2017

Saga Car Insurance. Saga contract their claims out to another company. I submitted my claim, the finances were agreed and the repairer given the go ahead. My car is repaired and sitting at the workshop, has been for the past fortnight. I live in the country, there is no bus service and no village shop. I am turned 70 and arthritic and cannot walk far. My car is essential. I can no longer ask neighbours to fetch something for me as I have run out of ready cash and can't get to the bank. I have had to cancel medical appointments as I can't get to them. The repairer will not release my car until they receive payment, so I am stuck. Saga, the contractor and the repairer know all this and despite frequent pleas I cannot have my car. There is no dispute over the finances but the contractor cannot be bothered to speed things up despite my predicament and Saga is not pushing them. Whenever I phone they all pass the buck between each other. So much for their claim of looking after the elderly. HA HA HA!!!!

“sting in the tail of this reasonably priced car insurance”

★★★☆☆

written by sallyab on 15/02/2017

I was very pleased with the price of my car insurance for a very old fiesta. I took the insurance out November last year for £98 TPFT. Unfortunately, the car had to be scrapped at the end of January and I had to cancel the cover. The return premium after 2.5 months was £10 as there is a £50 cancellation fee!!!!! I was not told this when I took out the insurance, although I am sure it is mentioned in the small print, its too late when you have paid over the phone. I am disgusted with this ridiculous rip off and have complained to Saga, we shall see what happens. I do feel that this policy should be spelled out before you buy

“Hire Car Woes”

★★☆☆☆

written by Diego327 on 10/02/2017

I work with the elderly and was delighted to receive a competitive quotation from Saga. All was fine until I had an accident. I have listed the story so far, my car has been recovered by 28 hours after the accident, still no replacement hire car. 9th February 2017 1. Had accident at approximately 9:45 and contacted my insurer - Saga 2. Had long conversation with insurer’s representative and informed that recovery would be with me within 40 minutes. 3. 11:40 telephoned Saga and informed them that recovery had not arrived. Advised that compensation would be forthcoming for their error. 4. Contacted by English Ford to advise that recovery would be undertaken within 10 minutes 5. 12:40 recovery arrived who informed me that they had just been advised of the need to recover my vehicle. 6. 13:00 arrived home and telephoned Saga. Advised that there was a problem sourcing a hire car for me and would I wait until 10th Feburary for a vehicle – I had urgent business elsewhere and therefore accepted that they would contact me with details of a hire car being delivered on the following day. 7. 18:30 arrived home from a meeting and having not been contacted by Saga or English Ford telephoned Saga for an update. The operator advised me that there had been an error at 2 and that a fax had been despatched bu tnot received or confirmed. Somewhat concerned the operator assured me that she would telephone with details of my hire car by 10:00 a.m. 10th February. 10th February 2017 8. No surprise that there was no call and so at 10:15 I telephone Saga. I was advised that the Saga representative had telephoned me at 10:03 and received no reply. Further investigation revealed that the individual had telephone dthe wrong number, however, it took time for me to convince the operator that I had not received a call. I was promised a car between 12:00 AND 2:00 P.M.. 9. 14:10. No car, telephoned Saga, to ask where my hire car is. They are looking into it, so far I have been waiting 28 hours. 10. Just been telephoned by English Ford in Poole to be advised that their operative advised my yesterday that the car would not be delivered before 3:00 p.m. One of us is telling lies I fear! Car now on its way. Long review I know, but working with the elderly I regularly listen to how woefully they are treated by companies, it does give me some concern over Saga, who having sold car insurance to the strength of helping people of 50 with services they require. In this particular case, it may be the company who they are contracting with English Ford of Poole, who have now informed Saga that they have a driver off sick and have struggled to deliver cars today, who knows, but as I enter the 29th hour of being without a hire car, I have run out of patience with both agencies.

“Appalling Customer Service & Total Rip Off Merchants”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 30/01/2017

Having been a customer of Saga for many years, the time had come to terminate my car insurance with Saga Car Insurance. My first call to them in January was to formally cancel my insurance at which time NO mention of any administration fee was mentioned!. Second call to them was upon receipt of a letter demanding payment of £51.99 within thirty days. When telephoning and requesting breakdown of this (recent payment made within couple of days of cancellation) it seems that £50 of this was an 'administration fee' which quote 'you will find in the small print' unquote!!! Am totally unable to comprehend why writing one letter of confirmation with cost of first class stamp (typist time of roughly 2 minutes), and pushing button to cancel policy (couple of seconds) costs we, the public, in excess of £50. Are there any administrative staff earning £50 for approximately 3 minutes work!! Will be contacting the Financial Ombudsman with formal complaint in relation to this.

this is exactly what has happened to me! am so angry with this £50 cancellation fee which was not mentioned to me before I had paid for the insurance. I have put a complaint in to Saga, will wait for a response and then take it further to Ombudsman if I have to. If I do, can I mention you?

“NCD Discount Disgrace”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Shottsgirl on 25/01/2017

Asked five times for proof of no claims discount to be sent, still waiting....Sent a complaint to Saga, still waiting on a reply. Were quick enough to take my money though. Both call centre operatives were surely and rude. Would definitely not recommend.

“WHAT YOU SEE IS NOT WHAT YOU GET: GET YOUR SMALL PRINT”

★☆☆☆☆

written by SteveQuirrel on 24/01/2017

Going through the main Saga web page for Motor Insurance the web site proudly boasts that Saga policies offer "unlimited European cover". Ideal for those of us in returement that travel a lot. But the policy issued is through "Saga Select", and buried int he small print is a serious cap on the amount of time a car can be in Europe. This is very disingenuous marketing, and I will not use this company again.

“astronomical cost compared to other insurers”

★☆☆☆☆

written by afMorris26 on 15/01/2017

Recently changed our car and looked to saga for insurance as we were with them for our old car. Our insurance premiums have risen significantly this last year but nothing could have prepared us for the quote on our new vehicle - a whopping £300 dearer. So so disappointed with saga - I thought they were meant to help the over 50's - I don't think so. Give saga a wide berth - there are a lot more cheaper options out there - the rac is a good one.

“Saga much changed - and not for the better”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 07/12/2016

Having formerly had great experience with Saga, we have insured our car for the past four years with little cause for complaint. We did not make any claims and our money went out of our account smoothly each month - essentially we forgot about them until we went to change our car. The new car was far less valuable than the old, yet Saga's quoted premiums for it had taken a sharp upward hike from those for the previous car. Naturally, we looked elsewhere and found many options for infinitely better value premiums with reputable firms. We rang Saga to cancel our insurance. All went smoothly until we received a bill for a raft of different charges associated with the cancellation, totalling some £79.00. Nothing had been mentioned about these when we cancelled. It really is not just about making money, Saga. If you leave enough people with a bad taste in their mouths after dealing with you, there'll be no hidden charge that can make up for the loss of custom.

This has recently happened to me. Cancelled my policy as my car was scrapped, waited for my return premium only to be told there is a £50 cancellation fee!! Was not told about this when I took out the policy. I have put a complaint in to Saga and if I dont get my money back, which I probably wont! I shall take it to the Ombudsman. There are a few people complaining about this on this site alone so we could band together and make a good case.

“Made me drive illegally!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 443Allison on 02/12/2016

I phoned after moving house and they refused to change their records unless I sent them copies of my driving licence and V5. I checked with the ombudsman and this is not a requirement under the law, but the immediate change of address notification is. They are therefore making me drive illegally and have themselves committed an illegal act-BEWARE! Offered to send me a customer service letter up to 5-7 days to start a complaint, would not deal with complaint over the phone or by letter until I had received their letter-which could go to my empty old house because they would not update theirs-appalling.

Saga provide unlimited European use on their car insurance which is the main reason I use them. Has anyone any experience of them being difficult about cars parked at secure airport car parks abroad? I am in France and flying back to UK for a couple of weeks to see the kids, leaving the car at Toulouse airport. Have read the policy and it looks OK but the circumstances are unusual perhaps. Grateful for views.
