Saga offered us £450 less £200 excess = £250 for a comprehensively insured M registration VW Passat Estate TDI in very good condition after an Autoglass van bumped into the back because he was not looking where he was going.
The Autotrader retail value of the car is £1,645.
My advice: don't insure with Saga and certainly do not take out a comprehensive insurance with Saga.

It seems Saga treat their own customers well, but are appalling when it comes to third parties! I m not the only third party to comment on here that Saga appear to routinely ignore their third party phone line (I have waited twenty minutes before giving up), rude reception staff who are only interested once you threaten to contact their customer direct. Refusal to take calls from third party insurers insisting on receiving letters.
I would NEVER insure with Saga after being treated appallingly by them as a third party.

Gave me a quote which I paid, they then wrote and said that they had overcharged me by %-60. They repaid this and added another '£10 with apologies. How many other insurers would do that?

My car has been in with their recommended repairer SMS Cardiff for 3 weeks and still not ready, Saga don't have a procedure in place i.e. get an estimate, order parts then book vehicle in, they send an estimator in several days after your car has gone to the repairers then authorise the work several days later!! Yes I have a courtesy hire car arranged by them..but at a price...someone has too pay for this.
My local bodyshop accident repairer said he could have done the repair within 3 days
Cheap insurance but poor service when something goes wrong...

Saga Car Insurance offer good value for money for the over 50's, I got this quote originally through Confused.com but have used them in the past. I check it out every year when my insurance is due.

Recently switched to Saga just before their association with the AA. Interestingly the AA would have been my second choice but cover not quite as required. Carried out very detailed checks before switching, best rates were all close and much less than I had been paying.

I had been with Churchill for many years, without a claim, and just by chance I had a letter from Saga car insurance to apply for a quote. It was a few quid cheaper with the same cover.

Saga offer easy, straightforward car insurance for careful drivers who are over 50 years old. They also have many other insurance offers, including offers for holiday insurance and house contents insurance.

Never accept their first renewal quote, as I found that I could, and did get a major reduction by quoting other insurers offers. Also remember that no claims protection only really works when the entire claim is settled with full recovery of costs etc. Until then it is still an open claim (18 months).
It can take 14 days from receipt by Saga's post room to it getting to a claims handler, in which time you may receive requests to submit the very paper work which is sitting in their post room (even recorded delivery).
But all in all, Saga is a safe company, and their quotes are reasonably low for the inclusive offers.

Saga Car Insurance are an excellent company to deal with, good communications at all times and couldn't be more helpful. Cheap insurance and unbelievably good service. I had a crash in Ireland and it was sorted out as soon as I got back home. I told them that I had been to a repairers but then heard nothing from them for a week about going ahead with the repairs, they were astonished that I had waited, they told me just to get it done and then get the garage to send them the bill.

My wife's car was damaged by a removal van in April 2006. One of the removal men fell over backwards inside the van hitting the rear offside door causing it to fly open just as my wife was passing damaging her door and smashing all the windows on the near side. 100% blame on the side of the removals company which they agreed. Yet despite numerous calls to Saga my wife is still awaiting her Excess payment back. Insurance companies are only as good as their claims departments, I should know I used to work for one in London. Saga don't get my vote, I will stick with London Victoria although I haven't had to make a claim yet.
