I can honestly say Home Strip is amazing! I have used many paint removers over the last 20 or so years where I have had to remove paint or varnish from various items. I saw this product on Twitter through a blog called a passion for homes and purchased from tool station.( got to say they are amazing as well! Anyway I had some architraves that needed stripping as they were chipping very easily every time the door slammed, and with kids they slammed a lot..I applied Home Strip and left for an hour and it started to blister in places, and only removed one coat. I did some more research and found that it could be applied, covered with plastic film and left overnight. Apparently the plastic film prevents drying out and forces it down removing many layers....Well it did do just that! I scoured the surface with a steel ball and water which worked well as it got into all the grooves pulling the paint away. It took a few applications but leaving overnight saved me waiting over the job and it did all it's work when I was asleep.. I have also used Home Strip on a varnished floor and this worked much quicker. This product didn't smell, didn't burn my skin and it strips paint? Read a few negative reviews on here which to be honest not sure why it didn't work for them, as it was so easy to use.

Hi everyone, I am just wondering if anybody knows if this would be a safe product to use for removal in a reptile tank to remove a gloss paint any help would be appreciated, thanks very much.

Having inherited an old Ercol dresser with a dark brown stain and varnish I thought it'd have to go on the bonfire. I picked up some Home Strip at the local hardware store and had a crack at trying to rescue it. The product worked brilliantly. I painted the gel like liquid (which meant there was very little mess) and left it for about 40 minutes. I then used a stainless steal scourer and some warm water to remove the product and the varnish/stain. The brown stain and varnish came off with very little effort. Overall this product was easy to use and produced a fantastic looking piece of furniture. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

I bought this product from B&Q to try on my garage door, applied it and covered it with cling film and left overnight. No smells, no skins burns and very pleasant to use. The next day it had removed most of the paint and I bought a larger size from Toolstation and with one more application and an hours wait it scrubbed off a treat with a scouring pad and a bowl of hot soapy water. I have just bought their PVCu cleaner to remover the paint splashes from my windows.

Having spoken to a friend about some old wooden sash windows and window sills I had that I wanted to repaint, he pointed me in the direction of the eco solutions paint remover stating 'it is the best you are gonna find' and he wasn't wrong. I bought a tub from toolstation, and went to work, the product was unbelievably easy to use, it didn't overwhelm the house in a horrible toxic smell and was great value. Yet the most impressive thing about it all was that the wood came out looking as though it had never been painted in the first place, when considering the house I live in was built in the 20's and that this paint had probably never been changed means it was nothing short of a miracle. An incredible product and one that I would happily recommend to anyone and everyone. Brilliant!

I really wanted to give a favourable review - as the product is easily the safest to use (but see below). For removing several layers of paint and varnish (some lead-based) from 100 yr old skirting boards, we wanted something that can safely remove the lead without any flaking and dust (due to toxicity of the lead). We also wanted to avoid chemically dangerous products. Sadly, the Homestrip - after 3 overnight applications - was still a long way from removing all the layers completely. It generally only attacks one layer of paint per application. Moreover, left overnight it results in a rubbery but dry-ish layer of scrape-able paint that flakes into small pieces and gets absolutely everywhere. This defeats the purpose of the exercise for us (to be able to cleanly remove and bag paint contained in gel that stays stuck to the scraper). In a sense then Homestrip is 'dangerous' for removing lead paint, if the paint scrapings are so hard to stop getting everywhere. Auro is an eco-friendly but unpleasant alternative that does a better (though not spectacular) job - 3 to 4 applications (left on for 2 hours each time) removed most of the paint and varnish beneath, and almost no flaking occurred. Warning though - it is highly caustic - great care required not to recieve burns. Goggles and chemical resistant gloves needed. It does not contain the really hazardous chemicals of 'mainstream' paint strippers however (eg carcinogens). Another eco option is Osmo paint stripper. Apply overnight and cover with foil. 3 applications removed most of the layers - but there is some dgree of flaking and mess, though much less than Home strip. It is a far less innocuous product though, and only 'kind of' eco and 'kind of' safe, as far as I can tell fronm the tin. I would still use the Homestrip on one or two layers if I knew no lead was present - due to its unrivalled safety. But its not one for tough jobs.

Bought this from B&Q in a 500ml size after talking to the company eco solutions as i wanted to check if this product removed paint from wooden architraves and also cornicing. They recommended i purchased a small size to try first but assured me it would work. They were right and it worked beautifully. I pasted the door frames up with a thick coating and covered it with plastic film wrap and left it till the following day. I was amased by the results as it had taken off most of the many layers of old oil based and gloss coatings. I then scoured the suface with a scouring ball and soapy water whcih then took away the primer coating. I did the same on the cornincing but i used a toothbrush so i didnt dig into the plaster surface and it worked well. I bought bigger sizes from Toolstation as B&Q only stock the small size which is a pity. Great product and with no skin burns or fumes this was a very pleasent experience.

This stuff is great. I have used the smelly and extremely dangerous strippers before and hated them. With this stripper all I did was apply a coat, wait about 15 minutes, scrap off. Then with a bucket of water and a green scratch pad wash off. Additional coats would need to be applied depending on how many coats of varnish or paint are on the piece. And no dangerous fumes or burns on my skin. It is time consuming, but what is there about refinishing that isn't time consuming. PS I am having trouble finding a place to buy more in the USA, am almost out and am in the middle of a project.
