Written on: 24/08/2007 by MrA (1 review written)

Well the Halfords in Derby in itself was incredibly easy to find, not only that but the staff were incredibly helpful, within stepping foot of the door a member of staff (looked a little unprofessional, but definitely knew his stuff) was there to help me, I was looking at the sat-nav cabinet when someone offered to talk me through them, I was looking at the cheapest on there before he told me that they do have a very large percentage of returns of them, and swayed me towards the slightly more… Read Full Review

Written on: 19/08/2007 by jonathan kelly (110 reviews written)

I recently had trouble with my car not starting. I thought the battery needed charging, so I went to Halfords and bought a charger. On connecting it up to the battery it told me the battery was OK. Thinking I had bought the wrong charger, I went back and exchanged the charger, but the next one was no better. So I went back and got a full refund.

I went to a garage to get a second opinion. AFTER A LOT OF SCRATCHING OF THE HEAD, I mentioned that it may be the starter motor. "Yes", I was… Read Full Review

Written on: 10/01/2007 by skinner100 (1 review written)

My son has had his bike for 2 weeks. It was a Christmas present. We took it back today for second time. The first time it went back, it was because the handle bars were insecure. Now the chain comes off when cornering, and gears slip and grind. The chain is now jammed solid between the crank and the frame. It turns out that the Halfords Kirkcaldy store only has a bike mechanic working 2 days out of 7… Read Full Review

If "the handlebars were insecure" - with all due respect, that could have been rectified in about five seconds yourself with an Allen key. If you choose to own a cycle, you should know the basics about how they work. At the end of the day, a bike is a road-going vehicle, and if you did not feel able to tighten (literally) one or two bolts yourself, then pardon me, but you should not be owning or riding a bike. Personally, I would be embarassed to take a bike back to a bike shop for what is literally a ten-second "job", I would have just tightened the handlebars myself to save the hassle.

On the other hand, Halfords should not have let the bike leave the shop in an un-rideable state, so I sort of see where you are coming from. Halfords is at fault for allowing you to collect (and ride off on) a bike that had not been adequately assembled.
Where do you draw the line?

Sorry, Skinner100, I have just read the rest of your post regarding the gear and chain issues with your bike, and I realise I might have been a bit harsh with my last reply, for which I apologise. Halfords have clearly let you down with the state of the bike that they supplied you with.

For chistmas my 12 year old 7 stone lad wanted an off road push bike for jumping. Went to Halfords in Newbury, Berks and looked at a £200.00 bike. Sales man informed us (after explaining what we needed) that the Carera Fury was the bike to have with adjustable forks and high quality build it would be perfect. Christmas day pedal fell off, next gears jumped & would stay in gear causing accident on main road, new gears fitted by shop, next rear brake stops working, repaired be shop. Next new… Read Full Review

Written on: 11/04/2006 by CycleShopper (1 review written)

I bought a bike from Halfords in Staines for £500. The first time it was used it made a grinding noise from the rear wheel. The bike was returned and the fault was corrected. Next time out the front wheel came loose, so the bike had to be returned. It was corrected and the brakes were re-aligned. Halfords then agreed to do a full PDI check again. On the way to returning the bike for the check the pedal fell off. Halfords fixed the pedal and did a quick check and sent us on our way. Halfords… Read Full Review

Halfords in Staines was the most horrific store, with staff that couldn't give a damn whether they could help you or not, and who were more interested in talking to each other.

I had to stand at the front counter shouting at top of my voice before a staff member appeared, enabling me to pay for my item which was a bottle of de-icer costing £3.00, which could have been bought from Tesco for half that price… Read Full Review

Written on: 27/12/2005 by Rhough (1 review written)

Bought a bike from Halfords for my three year old. PDI form said loads of checks had been done - they hadn't and the bike was delivered in a dangerous state - took me half an hour to fix it.

Complained to Halfords via email, bounced with weak excuse about upgrading email system (at Christmas, yeh, right).

Halfords are rubbish - if you have to buy a bike from them make sure you get it checked by a competent mechanic before you use it… Read Full Review

You can actually take your bike back to the store and they would have given it a safety check for you for free. If you weren't happy with the build of the bike you shouldn't have left the store unhappy.

Written on: 08/11/2005 by simon knott (1 review written)

An absolute joy to shop at Halfords very helpful staff. Superb range of bikes for my budget £400.00. Upon entering the store I was greeted by no less than the Store Manager with a lovely smile. I then proceeded upstairs to the cycle section, I was left to ponder no more then maybe 3 mins when I was approachd by a member of staff who excelled in customer service. No pressure no sales jargon just good service. Between us we wittled the choice down to just 2 bikes I then took the plunge on a great… Read Full Review

I went into the Halfords Shop in the High St in Godalming, Surrey after waiting for half an hour to be served in their Guildford branch. I was greeted as I came through the door by the staff as though I was there only customer, however this might have been due to the floods they experienced quite regularly apparently! The atmosphere was completely different and relaxed. I didnt feel pressured into buying anything and hurried out the door when being served by their staff, they talked to me as… Read Full Review

In my experience you always tend to get much better service in the small Halfords stores than in the big superstores. The superstores are understaffed whereas the staff in the small stores have time for you and it is a much more relaxed and pleasant atmosphere.

You can not return bad quality electronic stuffs from this store. Unlike other stores, here you have to live with bad quality stuffs sold by this store. The customer service said that it is not faulty so you can not return it, but the fact the quality is bad and there is no way to test it in the store.
