I'm a professional gardener and would recommend the Mc Cullough over its rivals simply because of its light weight.i, too have adjusted the strimmer head to take heavier line and one line instead of two. Just makes it easier to re-fill. brilliant product for a brilliant price, IMO.

I am a full time gardener and have used my McCullock Trim Mac 210 most days through out the summer months for the past 10 years.I drilled a hole in the spool enlarging it so enabling me to use a 2.40mm strimmer line. Although it has a single line it cuts through nettles ,brambled and most tough grass and weeds in the rockery/patio,turn it over and it edges the lawn and simplicity itself to reload the spool The real beauty of this strimmer is that its super lightweight and easy to start,it never tires your arm even with one handed use. I recently purchased a more up to date model in case the old one dies. It has a twin line and is heavier...it does'nt cut any better and feels awkward. So Trim Mac 210 single line strimmer 5 star rating. (My best purchase)

Ignore the negative comments about this McCulloch Trimmac 210 Petrol Strimmer machine.
It is a lightweight petrol machine, designed to be an alternative to an electric machine and is great if used within it's design parameters.
It is not a heavy duty machine.
Do not use the 'yellow' 2.4mm line.
If your machine came with a black spool, use
ALM SL002 blue 1.5mm line,
If it came with a green spool use
ALM SL003 green 2.0mm line.

after years of frustration(frequent cutting out, running too fast, costly repairs, wire breaking every minute) I have finally ditched this piece of junk (a McCulloch Trimmac 210 Petrol Strimmer). I am now the proud owner of a strimmer that actually does the job it was made for: a Stihl!

I got my McCulloch Trimmac 210 Petrol strimmer 2nd hand from the local paper and so it was cheap. I feel that it doesn't owe me anything.
To get it to start, you could keep 'treating' it to new spark-plugs, that it keeps coking up.
Alternatively, use a wire brush soaked in petrol to de coke the plug.

very light and well balanced - less arm aches than even an electric in my opinion, easy to start, cheap.
Pull off line trimmer easy to use - I dont ever use the bump feed thing. I do use thicker 'yellow' line with it thou.
Had my McCulloch Trimmac for age - just got another for my mum!!

This McCulloch Trimmac 210 Petrol is a great machine and is very cost effective. I have used one of these strimmers on a Professional level for 9 years and have never had a single problem. I use it every day.

Ignore manufacturers instructions for starting the McCulloch Trimmac 210. You only need to press the bulb on the fuel line a maximum of three times otherwise you will flood it, only use half choke even when cold and it should start first time as mine does.

I had to buy a new strimmer to replace my 24 year-old strimmer that had unfortunately seized up. I came across this McCulloch Trimmac 210 Petrol in B&Q Colchester at a very reasonable price. When I got home and tried it out though, things changed. The first problem you come across is starting the machine. My old strimmer took 3 or 4 pulls. This one took 15 tugs for it to splutter into life. The next problem I found is that you can never find a comfortable position in which to stand and strim. The problem is that this strimmer is very poorly balanced in that you have to both pull up the engine and push down on the cutter quite tiresome and painful. This certainly wasn't a problem on my old strimmer, and neither was the throttle. On this strimmer, the throttle is far too twitchy and there seems to be only 2 positions; idle or max RPM. It is near impossible to get a steady in-between. Also, the throttle has a stupid trigger which always jams up every time you pull it. Other problems include the safety grass guard; it's smaller than on my old strimmer meaning your trousers will almost certainly turn green and it also has an annoying habit of moving clockwise around the strimmer shaft, leaving you to keep pushing it back every minute or two. I've tried tightening it, but it soon works itself loose. As there isn't a picture of this strimmer on this site, I can tell you that it has a curved cutting end, (like most strimmers these days) which is completely pointless and gives terrible kick back every time the cutter touches the grass. The final nail in the coffin is the build quality, and judging by it, I've concluded that my strimmer will probably fall apart next week!

Had a McCulloch Trimmac 210 for 5 or 6 years, never missed a beat. First repair is this summer, need a new head assembly (£20)(wear and tear)

Not for thick grass and as long as you are doing a smallish garden you should be OK. Not right for me though.
It is a good value machine but is not for thick grass/weeds.
Fine if you just use it for trimming and strimming normal grass.

I have wasted about £100 on this strimmer which will now have to be scrapped. Therefore it has cost me £50 per season. Am now looking at a Kawasaki which whilst is £260 comes with a two year warranty and has local back up. They have advised that they supply the same models to commercial operators using them all day every day during the growing season and they just keep going. I only used about 2 litre fuel in my Mc culloch and its U/S!

This McCulloch Trimmac 210 is my first petrol strimmer. It has run once properly in a year! Kick back is terrible, it will not stay running. Took it to repair center and was told to junk it as no good! Total waste of around £100.00 then!

I know this is a cheaper end tool but in my opinion the quality is just not good enough.

Don't expect to harvest a field with this trimmer, that's not what it is designed for. It is light weight and designed for light use which suits my needs. Would I buy another one when this one dies? Probably but I might have a look else where as well. Given its price I doubt you would find a better alternative without spending at least another £20 - £40.
Over all I would give it 7/10 for performance, 6/10 for build and 10/10 for value.

The McCulloch Trimmac 210 petrol strimmer is not for serious use, and it can't be relied upon. Look at other ranges from bigger companies in the strimmer market. You can't always trust advice from the big sheds. Might be worth talking to service agents to get an idea of running costs etc before you buy : I wish I had.

I have now been through two of these. The first one had bits of plastic falling off the whole time (poorly fixed choke cover) due to poor design, so only lasted a month. The replacement had slightly improved the design, so plastic remained in place, however the machine is poor quality and the carburettor packed up after the first season. £60 repair bill later it lasted another season, but this year again it won't start up and now its a case of not wanting to throw good money after bad. BTW the repair shop stated they have had loads of these come into them and few are more than one season old. Not a long term investment.

A question.... could anyone please outline what I need to put in the pump - petrol only or is it a mix and if so, what's the ratio?
<br/>Also, what's the thickest 'string' that can be used on this machine without causing it to work too hard and breakdown. I have not yet used it but believe it is for light garden trimming!
