Took out breakdown cover for the first time ever last May when planning a motorcycle trip round Scotland. Luckily I didn't need it but today I did. Riding through Manchester the clutch failed. Phoned for assistance and was impressed with the response but still a little worried that the breakdown recovery would fail to appear, I'd be stranded for hours and need to make numerous and ever more irritated calls. My fears were totally unfounded. 40 minutes later SOS Recovery appeared having battled through central Manchester in the rush hour. Very friendly, very helpful, very efficient. Battled the traffic again to get out of Manchester and back home safe, sound and as happy as you can be when your bike has just busted. Thanks to LV Britannia Rescue for a great service. I'll be renewing the cover when it's due in a few months time.

I rang the company at 9am in the morning as had a family meal planned for the afternoon. I was told that they would be there within the hour (so 10am) , great i though! I rang Britannia rescue again at 11 am as this was now 2hours and I had heard nothing. We were told some one was on the way and we should have received a phone call! Some one eventually arrived at 11.45. He looked at the car and said it was a 5 minute job that he could get the part for and fix it for us. He would be an hour. We agreed to this and then proceeded to wait another hour and 45 minutes. He returnrd at 1.30. I then rang Britannina recuse to lodge a complaint which was not greeted well. All in all we missed the family lunch, having spent 4 1/2 hours waiting for my car to be taken car of!

Britannia recovered us from the M62 on the outskirts of Lpool to our home in Kent, some 260 miles away, last Sunday night. I cannot fault the service we received. Because of the time and distance, we had a series of four recovery vehicles, but only once did we have to wait more than a few minutes for the next to arrive. Throughout we were kept informed by friendly, courteous, helpful and reassuring staff, and at each stage we were offered the alternative of hotel accommodation overnight. The drivers of the recovery vehicles were equally polite and helpful. It was inevitably a stressful experience, but Britannia and their drivers could not have done more to minimize the stress.

My daughter had a car accident recently and the lady in the call centre was brilliant. I had no idea of the road name we were on and she was extremely patient and helpful. The recovery lorry arrived just over an hour later, bearing in mind it was morning rush hour with a very cheerful and effcient driver. Money well spent as they made a awful experience very much easier.

“caution using britannia rescue”

★☆☆☆☆

written by grahamf on 19/09/2014

Having been a member for over 20 years I am disgusted at the company's behaviour regarding a call out discrepancy. my membership was due and I assumed it had been taken as I authorised it over the phone. however it seems the payment was not collected. A few days later I called for a rescue and gave the operator my membership details and he said all was ok so I assumed it had been asked for again and paid. Shortly after I received a letter saying this was not the case but when i called to rejoin they said they could no longer cover me. 5 months down the line I have just received a bill for £48 for the breakdown and a 7 day to issue of summons threat, as I did not renew, although they would not let me and they also sent a vehicle out for me knowing my membership was not valid. They should have told me at the time of calling and allowed me to make a decision then. This is very bad customer service as they would not take any responsibility for the situation at all saying they give 14 days extra to allow renewals but it seems if that renewal doesn't happen they can charge you what they like.

“European break ? You're seriously having a laugh !!”

written by KAD0421 on 26/08/2014

Date 27-8-14 Location - The French / Italian boarder (Mount Blanc on the Italian side) Now, I'm sure LV /Britannia UK breakdown is fine, unfortunately the European Breakdown service isn't. So, I am actually mid way through my breakdown experience, and to be honest I would never recommend LV/Britannia European cover to anyone....well maybe I would to my ex wife. The car was overheating but I managed to get it to a service / rest area just before the Mount Blanc toll booth. I rang the specified number at 3.58pm. I did have several calls through out afternoon / evening keeping me informed every 2 or 3 hours. On the odd occasion I had LV's Italian consultant ring me (she spoke no English & I speak no Italian) so not good. Anyway 6 hrs later, we get picked up....and yes I did say 6 hrs, by the breakdown truck, again the guy spoke no English. The UK agent rang to say they had organised a hotel, which was something I suppose....until we turned up. What a dump. Seriously this hotel is so bad it's not even on booking.com, because the reviews would be in the minuses. Anyway, I've got to take the blame. You know what they say, buy cheap buy twice. I should have spent that little bit extra and gone with one of the big boys. Let's see what the garage say tomorrow, I can feel a rip off heading my way !! I will post the conclusion on here tomorrow !! I've had to put it as a 1 star because it wouldn't let me score a zero.

I wouldn't even give this company one star. Paid for the rescue cover yesterday only to be redirected to a blank page. Checked my bank statement and they've taken the money yet I've received no confirmation email or anything. Rang up today can't see me on the system (obviously seen something to take me money) ditzy women working on the phones which clearly know nothing about the company. Won't refund me any money. Two women telling me different things. DONT BUY THIS COVER.

written by terryco11 on 16/08/2014

britannia rescue use sub contractors which is very very poor service. I had a tyre blow out on motorway could not get spare on as tyre wrapped around needed an crow bar. said they would be out within 1 hour to 1 and half hours fine great not to bad. 2 and half hours later still nothing phoned them again said we dont know how long then why quote me 1 half hours in the first place had to wait on another 4 hours before they cam out on top so waited a total of 6 hours stuck on a motorway shocking Very poor not only a lost customer here, but a customer who will never recommend your services. I'm now chasing a total refund under sales of goods act as it does not meet as described avoid this company i would not use it even if it was free or they paid me to use it.

Alternator packed up in slow moving traffic on the M25, managed to reach the hard shoulder when the battery finally gave up. This is when you find out how good your recovery service is. Britannia Rescue was good especially the person at the other end of the phone who talked me through what would happen next and when it would happen. At every stage of the rescue which wasn't straight forward kept me informed by ringing me to let me know whats was happening next and what the options were. Many thanks Britannia.

“A tough day”

written by jaguar07 on 02/08/2014

I am a woman who was returning from London after my mother had passed away. I had a blowout ,from a slow puncture caused by a large nail, on the northbound M6 toll road. I pulled over immediately right next to a wooden marker of where I was. The woman I spoke to was very nice, she rang about every 15mins but the problem was that my whereabouts got relayed wrongly somehow & the rescue vehicle seemed to have not gone on the tollroad but gone into Birmingham & was stuck in traffic jams[she looked on a tracker & he was doing 3 miles an hour] I waited for almost 2.5 hours being tooted at by motorists. I was very tearful due to my grieving situation. The rescuer was not English[I am not against that] & wasn't as sympathetic or apologetic as he might have been.My previous rescue company really reassured me when I was rear ended a couple of years ago[my only other accident]I've not been asked for an opinion on this rescue from them so I'm writing this today. Will go back to Jaguar rescue.

“Saved by Britannia Rescue”

★★★★★

written by on 18/07/2014

My car was on the drive across the front of my house and I had to reverse it a little so as to drive forwards on to the main road. When I put the car into reverse it tried to move but behaved as if there was something stuck under the back offside wheel. An examination revealed that there was no obstruction. The car had been fully serviced only 4 weeks before so I was at a loss. After several attempts and with no success I rang Britannia Rescue for assistance. Details were taken and I was told that assistance would be with me in one hour. However after 10 minutes I received a call to say that there would be a delay as Britannia Rescue was dealing with another customer in the next town which involved the removal of a car to a garage. In fact Britannia Rescue did arrive within the appointed hour and immediately tracked down the problem. The brake was stuck and after several more robust attempts the problem was dealt with. The cause was explained to me and it was recommended that I take the car to a garage in the near future to get the brakes looked at in case it happened again. Being a lady of mature years I appreciated the time taken to explain what had happened rather than 'the brake was stuck'. The whole episode was dealt with in the most professional manner and I was left with the peace of mind that should I be in the unfortunate position of a break down in the future the situation would be handled in the same courteous and efficient manner.

“Recent breakdown experience Britannia to the rescue ”

Following my Jaguar V12 breakdown on the way to Tatton Park classic car show in Cheshire on 30th May The breakdown followed a loud bang and a steam engine load puffing noise .I turned right from A556 into A5003 and pulled up at the side of the road. I called LV Britania Resque a pre recorded message of how busy things are this morning,a few seconds passed A friendly staff member prioritised safety of myself and passengers advising procedure to stay safe. The person confirmed my ID and membership details and said a rescue person would attend half to 1 hour. They were particularly busy.I said the fault was not repairable at the side of the road and will require a recovery vehicle. We exchanged information and finished the call. About an hour later a recovery truck arrive at the scene he checked the problem and agreed it would be necessary to recover the vehicle and us to my home address. The recovery truck driver was very professional and friendly he took particular care of my classic car in the loading and unloading . The overall experience in the circumstances was good as the staff respond to reassured me that they would rescue us and the vehice in a safe and efficient manner. I have been a member of the CSMA and LV Briannia Resque for about 30 years .I will continue to recommend both the club and the LV Brittania Resque to anyone of my friends and colleagues.

I have used Britannia for about 10 Years and I can honestly say I have never had any complaints about the service from the initial phone call through the speed of the mechanics arrival or overall level of service offered. Even when its just a flat battery I have never been made to feel foolish!!! Judy

Having had a puncture in my nearside rear tyre I immediately called Britannia Rescue. Superb service, very quick efficient and safety conscious. As I was in no danger, having arrived at my holiday accommodation, in the middle of deepest Cornwall, I was so impressed with the super quick service from the member of staff from Lifton Down Garage. The wheel was changed and the spacer spare wheel put on, all done with a cheery word. I can't believe that some new cars don't have 'spare' wheels!!!! All this was learnt from the superb man who put on my space saving tyre. Job done within 10 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As ever 1st class service from all at Britannia!

We broke down at 2.55 this afternoon. The breakdown vehicle arrived within thirty minutes, and we received an update prior to its arrival. Our vehicle was taken back to the purchasing garage (we only bought the car last week). I cannot see how the service could have been improved, and we are grateful to H.P. Transport, and their mechanic in particular.

“Generally good value. but cover not as good as the big...”

With this company for many years . cheapest deal I could fiweightnd for personal cover. No problems whenever I had to call them out. Always efficient and friendly service. I sadly had to cancel with them and move to RAC. They do not cover vans which have been converted to campers . I was unaware of this and thought my T4 van was covered as per any other vehicle I might drive. It seemed an odd term to have, apparently you are covered if the conversion is professionally done ? Even though none of the simple conversion work done effects the running of the van or increases risk of breakdown they refuse to cover it. All the other big names I checked only stipulate the size and weight of the van to be within certain parameters and all is OK. So if like me you love your little van that you've made your own. Don't assume Britannia will cover you as well as AA, Green Flag , Gem, RAC etc. Such a shame I'd have stayed with them and this would have been 5 star review. Check those terms and check your vehicle is covered people before you sign up.

“Oh no I've flooded the engine, it won't start”

★★★★★

written by Blant on 23/02/2014

I had excellent service from Britannia Rescue. My call was answered straightaway and I was attended to about 40 minutes later. I was stopped in a safe place with my elder daughter in the car with me. This information was confirmed with me by the operator. I was telephoned 10 minutes beforehand to say that they would be with me within that time. The man who came was very helpful and did not make me feel silly because I had flooded the engine. He recommended that I have my car battery tested as he felt it was on its way out. He recommended a reliable place to go to have one fitted and even drew me a map of how to get there! It was a dreadfull wet and windy night. The Battery Test Centre in Wallisdown recommended a smaller battery than the one I had which was a cheaper price. Many thanks for not ripping me off. The breakdown man who sorted my car out was a knight in shining armour

I have been a member of Britannia Rescue for as long as I can remember and have been happy with the service to date. I currently have European Deluxe cover and will be travelling to France in the summer. I will be towing my caravan. Could you please confirm that should I experience a vehicle breakdown say on a day off site without the caravan attached, that the caravan would be repatriated as well as the car should the car not be repairable I.e. the caravan would possibly not be attached to the towing vehicle at the time of the potential break down and the car and caravan could be a good few miles apart? The requirement to have both car and caravan recovered is of paramount importance to our family. Thank you
