“88 year old man with heart condition left with no heating”

My dad who I 88 had his water tank break and flood his middle room on boxing day and more than are refusing to fix the problem. My dad has annually had the boiler serviced. He has a heart condition. First they said he didn't have boiler cover then they changed it saying the boilers too old. He has never received a copy of his terms and conditions which I asked for. His premium is a whapping £425 a year. I am now in the process of contacting a national newspaper and watchdog. Disgusting

“Appalling service”

They just do not fulfil their obligations and promises They delay corresponding with you on claims, you have to chase and chase again. They use stock replies ignoring the content of your mails, this is very frustrating. I answered one question 3 times and they still kept asking the question just to delay the claim. I am never going to buy cheap insurance again and certainly not from this lot, they just do everything they can to avoid paying out.

“Non existent emergency assistance”

We noticed a problem with our downstairs toilet on Tuesday pm. Husband had a look at it thought he knew what problem was and was planning to get the part at weekend when he was not working. Later that night we noticed or heating had gone off and hot water running cold so reset the boiler. The water In downstairs toilet was constantly running so thought this was what was causing boiler to cut out, but as I said my husband was planning on fixing it himself. On Wednesday evening my son flushed upstairs toilet and the handle gave way so we now had two disfuncrional toilets and heating that had to be constantly reset. I wasn't aware I had home emergency assistance until someone said check your policy. So I phoned them this morning and first of all it wasn't classed as an emergency as we had one toilet that could be used and then because we didn't report the boiler right away it's not an emergency.. I had looked at the policy phone numbers and claims one said hours 9-5 so thought no point in phoning now. I explained that my husband and I both have mobility problems and had to come downstairs during the night to use the toilet. We avoid the stairs until bedtime because of our problems but it made no difference. So anyone thinking of taking out insurance with this company think again. I won't be renewing my policy

“WARNING - CET Home Emergency”

This is a serious warning about CET. I have spent two days on what is a simple claim of a leaking window. This company has used delay tactics, tried to mislead me and get money out of a vulnerable old couple. They have two objectives: - Probably their BUSINESS MODEL.. given it was played out like a script. 1. Deny your claim in any way they can i.e. send out someone to do a temporary fix, which mean no fix. Then 2. Hold you as hostage in the emergency situation to get you to pay for the repairs. I read the contract out to the call centre woman and she told me she had it in front of her. Despite its clear wording they never parted from their company line of calling black, white. This is simply a breach of contract Do not insure with anyone using CET, you will regret it and it could result in a far bigger emergency and nightmare than you ever imagined. I've reported it to the Financial Regulators but as I believe it is criminal activity, will report it to the SFO or appropriate body. Consumers, especially vulnerable people should not be exploited by unscrupulous people like CET. By employing them it says a lot about MoreThan's ethics too.

“One nasty, nasty company!”

I had my beautiful top of the range Audi stolen from my driveway nearly 3 months ago. Every since then I have had nothing but grief from the insurance company and has caused me nothing but stress and anxiety. I wonder who has hurt me more the criminals who stole my car or the insurance company who are there to give you peace of mind. Initially when dealing with a claims handler she was quick to judge me and point the finger at me like if it was an inside job, she wasn't very clued up about car crime at all, considering that's her job. Her tone was very judgemental. She was quick to assume the car was stolen with my own keys and didn't even know what a tracker was. Considering it's her job to understand car crime. Then over weeks and weeks it was back and forth investigating this to death and when one line of equiry closed they opened up another equiry which was just an execuse for them to delay paying out. They never kept me informed what was going on or answer my emails. They told me I am not entitled to a loan car as well when clearly in my policy is says I am. Anyway I raised a complaint to get this sorted and been told they not going to pay out now due to the fact that an accident i had was not recorded on a renewal policy. I took out a new renewal policy before the accident occured and assumed it would have been recorded on my new insurance. Of course I should have checked but you assume they would automatically have this recorded. To me it was just an execuse to avoid paying out and whatever cost. My brother and parents have their cars with this company and contents/buildings insurance and they are going to pull out come renewal time simply because they lost confidence that if ever needed them they will not help. Although they won't care considering they are saving 000's from not paying out. very angry customer.

“Bathroom Floorboard problem”

Basically we've had a floorboard that has given way in our bathroom, problem is they are the new type as in chipboard & the tongue n groove design is such that the tongue goes in the groove a long way. Plus we have lino which is adhered to the floor, so that would've have to come up & be destroyed in the process. Plus the tongue n grooved boards would have to come up from a side which means the WC will have to come out. Been with More Than for buildings & contents for quite a while now, phoned & no dice. "has to be water involvement". There isn't. I'm livid about this & we've just cancelled our renewal with them. Appalling customer service. Dont use them.

“Less Than!”

I've had Home Cover, Home Emergency Cover and Legal Services Cover from More Than for about 3 years. Coming back home from my Dad's funeral 2 weeks ago (which didn't last more than 60 days by the way...), I discovered a water leak coming from the walls adjacent to the bathroom, in two rooms. I claimed over the phone to be told that none of my policies was covering water leaks! I am a lung cancer survivor with only one lung left after surgery, but they don't even bloody care about the danger of black mould accumulating on the damp walls that they won't care to repair!!! Dear Royal & Sun Alliance, please explain why I have an excess of £250 for 'escape of water' on my schedule if none of my policies cover said 'escape of water'? Hopefully, the Legal Services cover I am paying for will be helpful when I sue you, but I don't hold my breath... Disgusting joke of an insurance company, avoid at all cost! I AM SWITCHING AND SUEING R&S STRAIGHT AWAY!

“Hidden extras which are not mentioned up front”

I read the policy documents carefully before taking out insurance, as I know how the insurance companies work I signed up with Morethan, and when my laptop screen got smashed by falling, i tried to claim it. Talking to the agent, he said there would be an excess fee of £150, despite having set it to £50. when asked, they said the excess does not cover you for accidental damage!, so I would have to pay extra. Needless to say I did not claim Recently I had a blocked toilet, and despite the wording stating clearly "...plumbing or drainage systems which if not dealt with immediately will cause damage to the home or its contents..." As I had another toilet, they said it is not covered. Despite having no mention of additional facilities in the policy wording I went around all the houses, calling different people, and the emergency team are disconnected from more than, it is a separate company, so they have their own rules. it is impossible to speak to a manager. if a rep comes on this site now and tries to sweet talk readers by acting concerned, dont believe it - trust me. give your money to someone else.

“Read the policy”

Had a claim through More Than, before I took out the policy I took great care in reading their "how we settleclaims" sections. This is how they keep their prices so low. The assessor visited and drew a schedule. He then offered the use of the insurers own contractors. We agreed a start date, picked out the specs of materials and boom. Simple. I read a lot of the reviews on here and I feel it is important to stress that people read their policy. More Than did exactly what they promised.

“5 months and still no kitchen!!”

After 5 months we are still living with no kitchen We have no sink and have to wash up in the bath. We had no washing machine for 2 months We have no cooking facilities and we have to buy big bottles of water to fill the kettle They even managed to break the boiler and told us we had to find someone to fix it When I refused because they broke it they took over a week to get someone to fix it. When I said it was hot and we could not bath we were told to go to the local swimming pool to bath. Then they said they would give us £5 a day for the inconvenience. They originally agreed to give us £300 a month for food as we could not cook. Living in London I negotiated £400 a 4 week block. After complaining they then decided that they should be giving us more and gave us £10 a day They also ended up putting us in a hotel for 3 days after we witrd in and took time off work for builders to arrive. We were later told by accident that the builder had been ill all that time and they hadn't told us they just promised he would arrive every day. They said they would give us £5 to stay with a relative or £5 to stay at home for the inconvenience I complained and they said you can have £120 a night to stay in a hotel. Nothing makes any sense It is like being stuck in a bizarre mind game And we still have no kitchen Don't take out insurance with more than

“More Than will take your money but not help you in a...”

Day 57 I have had a flood, no ceiling, wrecked room my boys have been on a campbed for 57 days. I have been pushed from pillar to post. More than will pass your claim to a third party who are rubbish. You will get two or three companies dealing with your claim. They will not be sorry. They will not help you be warned. Do not use this company, you are warned. My claim is still on going..... Be warned. Everytime you have a dealing make sure you tell them the claim is not resolved as this is something they will automatically log without your consent. That will be a surprising bite when things go wrong.

“More Than - use second rate, bad garages to repair cars”

Been with this company for years. My first accident. My parked car was hit by a stollen car on 6th march. Three months later my car is still not properly repaired. Now trying to log a complaint or even get a senior person to call me back is problematic. More Than make idle promises. Staff are charming, but nothing happens. Too detailed and problematic to explain, but will not renew with them.

“Home emergency cover. Disgusting”

Been insured with this company for over 7 years, Last week was the first time I needed to make a claim to fix my boiler. Its been 6 days and the engineer has not yet sent a report back to More-than for them to authorize the work. called them every day, keep telling me they will call back & never do. Do these people even know the meaning of Emergency.I have no heating, no hot water & no resolution in sight. Thats More-than a rubbish service.

After having my garden shed broken into, I had some items taken and was a bit sceptical as to whether I would get them replaced. MoreThan insurance were more than helpfully and had my items replaced like for like and no fuss what so ever.I would highly recommend them and I am staying with them. Their prices are very reasonable, staff are polite and professional and they get you sorted quickly. Stress free insurance cover as it should be done...

“MORETHAN WHEN A HOME EMERGENCY TAKES DAYS NOT 24HRS TO...”

Morethan unfortunately use a company called CET for their Home Emergency Cover, who think it's totally acceptable to leave you without heating or hot water for days on end. After phoning and advising problem on a Wednesday afternoon and being promised, that someone would call back in two hours. Of course two passed and no contact, so I gave them another hour and called back myself, to be advised they were trying to contact tradesmen in the area. Another couple hours passed and someone called me about 9.30pm to say someone would attend the house sometime on Thursday. Really helpful, as I live on my own and work an hour away from home. So I asked if someone could call me, so I could arrange access to my property while I was at work. Thursday arrived and of course no one from CET,Morethan or a plumber had the decency to call me, so I again rang CET at 12.30pm, to be told someone would be attending the property between 2pm and 5pm Of course really handy when the person who agreed to let them in also had to work all be it locally. Plumber arrived with the raving hump as he'd been dragged from another job 20 odd miles. Now myself being an ex plumbers son, I spoke to the plumber and knew the problem was the actuator head and three port valve. The plumber then contacted his office to advise the problem and what I hoped, that they would order the parts and come back to fit. How wrong I was, Friday arrived and of course no contact from CET, so I rang again at 2pm to be told they were still awaiting the quote from the plumber. So I asked the nice advisor, if they could chase this up and get the plumber to fit asap. The response was, she would chase up the quote, but doubted very much they would be out to fit the part as they would need authorisation to order the part first. What a Joke!!! I then asked if the plumbers worked weekends, being as this was suppossed to be an Emergency Policy. Oh no was the response, they've come out to you within 24hrs but couldn't get the boiler working, so apparently they had fulfilled their Emergency Cover. How they were supposed to get the boiler working without any parts, is anyone’s guess. Divine intervention I suppose!! Well the weekend is here and still no heating or hot water, so people if you managed to plough through all this review, please don't buy a a Home Emergency Policy from Morethan and be aware if other Home Insurance companies use the worse than useless CET!!!! You've Been Warned!!!!!

“Cheap and Nasty”

MORE THAN are cheap and thats about it.. if you have the misfortune of making a claim, it is an absolute nightmare!!!. I made a claim on my house insurance when my home was damanged by a burst water pipe. This was the first time I had ever made an insurance claim and right from day 1 I had to do all the running around myself. More than claim handlers gave me wrong information or lied to me and tried to fob me off. It took them over 1 year to fix my home. That year was the most stressful time I ever had to go through all due to More Than's lack of communication and customer service. They dont care about you they are just interested in saving money. In the end I complained to the Financial Ombudsman and was awarded compensation because I was never treated fairly. Even after this MORE THAN never apologised they just sent a cheque in the post.. they are so arrogant they didnt even want to acknowledge they treated me unfairly!!! Please stay away from this company and just pay that bit extra and insure with someone else because it just isnt worth the stress.

“no customer service/no responses”

had some damage from recent storms, made a small claim to fix/repair damage to roofing area, i had a call straight away when claim was initially made, but when passed to a claim handler after this, there was nothing. email after email with no replys, i eventaully got a call from my handler asking me for an update?? she even read out my emails to her asking them for a reply/update, very bad service indeed. I have eventually had my claim agreed and was told payment would reach me within 10 days, i am still waiting 12 days later, have tried to contact them, again no response, no letters no idea when it will be in my account. this company leaves you hanging with no information, no clues as to when things will be actioned by them, very very poor and ver disapointed.

“Burst under bathroom sink”

At 3.00 today water started gushing through my kitchen ceiling and spot lights. Discovered water coming from under wash basin in bathroom above. Couldn't get access as built in. Turned stopcock off, electrics off phoned Morethan. We have home EMERGENCY cover. Held on ages. Passed to another operator, held on 15 mins, told we weren't fully covered, we are! Told we would get a call back, waited an hour then answered all the same questions. Promised call back in ten mins, call back at 5.15 to say plumber would come by 9.00 this evening. So we paid for emergency cover which could take six hours for a plumber to come out. Meanwhile heating off, water off some electrics off and can't flush toilet. Not sure what can be off or on. Are there any West Yorkshire plumbers out there who could beat Morethan's service?

“unable to get hold of insurance company since xmas eve ”

I have been trying to get hold of someone to speak to regarding my roof which has been damaged in the storms and is leaking through my bedroom ceiling. I have tried since the damaged occured on xmas eve and the lines are constantly engaged. Once I was on hold for 2 hours...yes two hours....on day time prices..... I have had to now go private as unable to get hold of someone to talk to and sort this out. Will be looking to move insurance companies.

Who do you complain to when nothing is done on time? Our house was hit by lightning, we are in temporary accommodation for 6 months. The loss adjustor doesn't make payments to cover rent on time, we can never get anything in writing to know what is happening or what we should be doing. The landlord is not happy with the late payments. We are on pension credit and do not have money of our own to pay rent.
