Have owned our Aquarius WF541 for just under 2 years. Thought we were making a good choice buying a hotpoint - how wrong was i ! Numerous electrical breakdowns ,machine always smelling damp and manky ,also a very noisy machine when working . It has just broken down yet again with all its lights flashing ,this time though it's going to the tip ...

written by on 07/06/2010

had aquarias 541 bought as present by daughter in law who thought we needed a new one as old 8 year old Zanussi was a bit rusty but reliable.worst machine ever.We had intermittant faults on spin cycle and 30 degree wash but never consistant enough to call out engineer.took out an extended waranty with Hotpoint for peace of mind .cost 189 pounds for 4 years with Domestic and general. However when machine broke down after 3 years with a fault code F18 we rang hotpoint who arranged an engineer but 10 days in advance. They said that fault was motherboard computer fault so must switch off.I complained about the delay and in fairness they did manage a cancellation call out after 6 days. However they will not give you a half day time slot so have to stayin. They will only advise on day of inspection 2hours before coming but only by text.Bad job if like us you have no mobile phone coverage at home. When they came engineer confirmed it was a motherboard fault but surprise surprise had not one on van.only order parts once a week so another 10 days before a differant engineer can come. When he arrived first one faulty and second one ok,but he said quite usual as parts sourced in China are usually poor. However when he programmed the new part found that it was not the motherboard at all but control panel.Again none on van so another week until an engineer can come again.I wont be surprised if still does not work as its obvious Hotpoint use poorly trained people to man switch board and then do repair.I have tried to complain to Hotpoint service but they refuse to put a customer on to a manager, neither have they replied to emails or letters. In fairness Domestic and General have said if the machine is still faulty after the next visit they will email hotpoint and ask them to consider replacement.I will believe that when I see it but presumably it will be a replacement aquarias.I would rather go and buy a replacement from one of the German manufacturers.I will never buy Hotpoint again neither will I buy a extended warranty from domestic and General who obviously leave the agent to deal. The plastic body of the machine has 2 cracks already and rubber seals are mouldy and wont clean.Very poor machine and would not recommend either machine or hotpoint service.

“Owned Hotpoint Aquarius WF541 for approx 2 years and...”

written by Retiredbiker on 24/03/2010

Owned Hotpoint Aquarius WF541 for approx 2 years and used daily. However has now broken down 3 times. Covered by purchased extended warranty called "What ever happens" from Currys. Well on one occasion what happened was it broke down between Christmas and New Year. They refused to attend. At latest breakdown rang one of the numbers they give and were told they won't send anyone until you get reference from insurance company. So then tried some other numbers contained in the warranty literature. Just seemed to go round in circles. Eventually rang complaints and finally made progress - someone will come in a week!

We have other Hotpoint products - same sort of issues. Generally now very disallusioned with Hotpoint products - poor quality/reliability. And those who sold the products and offer the extended warranty don't help the situation. Will not purchase other Hotpoint products

written by on 02/03/2010

Two of us in the house with VERY low usage of this machine. Only a couple of loads once per week. Product lasted barely two years before electrics went and have had to call out an engineer. It's not that quiet and the rubber around the doors seems to grow mouldy, smelly and corrodes very quicky. It is very easy to use though and like the look and layout but almost certainly wouldn't recommend this or any other hotpoint product to anyone else.
I think next time I'll almost certainly spend a little bit more for extra quality rather than the cheaper models.

We have had our machine for 2 years and just after the extended warrenty surprise, surprise a fault appears! We have red flashing lights and no operational functions, have cleaned the filters and checked the pump etc myself but the problem still persists. The call out fees are expensive and not worth the trouble, we will replace it with a different more reliable brand. DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE IT IS CHEAP TATTY BUILD QUALITY!

written by on 07/01/2010

I purchased my hotpoiunt aquarius wml540p on 12thdec 08, never had a problem till just before my first year was up then noticed the lights were flashing when it finished the wash cycle.Didnt really bother about that as i thought surely there can be no problem as it is only just 1 year old! Came to put my washer on yesterday and there is no power at all! Rang the helpline to be told as the first year is up i would have to pay over a hundred pound just for somebody to come out to look at it! And if it is beyond repair i wouldnt get the money back, needless to say i rang a local repair company with a no call out policy to come and have a look at it,hopefully later today. I will not be buying another hotpoint and their after sales service is disgusting.

Your review was very interesting as i am having similar problems, what did your engineer say the problem was and did it cost much to fix! Hotpoint have quoted £105 just to take a look at the machine, wondering if possible to fix it myself if I knew what all the flashing light actually meant! User manual absolutely useless.

After hearing a very loud bang after an even noisier spin than normal, then it dying on me yet again, have decided to stop throwing money at this machine. Have had a new motherboard, back of the drum replaced, and motor repaired and only had it two years, and yes, all problems after the guarantee ran out. We had another make previously and that machine lasted for 9 years and we only ever spent £40 on repairs, so going back to that make now.

We have had our hotpoint aquarius wf541p for just over two years, and until now we have not had problems with it, and its only broken know because i left coins in my trouser pocket and it made a hole in the plastic drum liner,., i have just stripped it down myself and found it preaty straight forward to dismantle, i have looked at spares sites for a replacement drum and can get one for £90 all in, (hotpointparts4u), so it should be ok for another year or so.

just read all the reviews about the Hotpoint WF541 Aquarius and we've had every one of the faults mentioned!!

first one we had had to be replaced with the same model. next one has been just as bad!

i only turned the computer on tonight searching for spares as it has just blown a beer mat size hole in the drum outer skin!!

“Hot point, cold product! ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 04/08/2009

Hot point, cold product!
After a 13 months water was pouring from the drum,we were just out of our guarantee hence no replacement!
After removing the back of the washer, and a few other items I was able to PLUG the hole in the drum with liquid metal! (No more leaks)
I have had to clean the sump two times which has in the past resulted in solving water removal.
Wait for it, we now have all our red lights flashing just like captain kirks control panel, with a drum full of water,it looks like we are sinking fast!
I know what the problems are, its the clingons attacking from the rear!
This morning I will be attacking the problem again as this war is far from over!
I will NEVER look at a Hotpoint again!
This has been such a disapointment in all ways!
No point having a washer that looks good but cannot do the job that it was ment to do!
Any machine that continually breaks down should be removed from the market place!
Do not make the same mistake that I have made as you will be better off with two stones in a river, at least you will have flowing water and clean clothes at the end of it!

The Hotpoint WF541 Aquarius does a fair job of washing clothes though can smell still quite damp at times. Not the quitest of machines either so dont put it on if you want some sleep!
Major fault also with electrics - flashing lights and electric shocks from the outer frame!
You have to turn off at mains and on again to clear the flashing lights.
No engineer out though as would cost too much due to Hotpoint's rip off charges.

written by craig01979 on 08/03/2009

It's quick and easy to use with lots of programs to suit every day needs with variable temperature and spin speed. It also has the following buttons - mini load which is a half load option, a extra rinse, rinse hold, reduced creases which gives a more gentle wash and spin action and finally a wash enhance which is used for a more intensive wash i.e dirty or heavy soiled clothes. I found it just a little noisy when spinning but overall not too bad and could of done with a time indicator which lets u know how long it has to go before it finishes. I bought this Hotpoint Aquarius washer Wf541p from Tesco's this week as it was the last one there and it was also boxed and reduced to clear and it cost me £170 which is not bad for a Hotpoint washer as the new ones cost about £250 or above from elsewhere and so far I am happy with it as I don't have any complaints.

When it works, it does the business well. Have had engineers in 8 times over the 19 months I have had this product. Pumps, drum all changed, module changed 4 times, still having issues with the 2nd and 4th flashing lights despite clearing out my filter several times.
Next product WILL NOT be a Hotpoint. Extended warranty a must otherwise it will cost you dearly

What an awful product this Hotpoint WF541 Aquarius is. Apparent poor build quality.
Will never ever purchase a hotpoint item again - Sorry guys but don't expect to shell out over £250 in repair fees for a product that is four years old. Not a happy bunny.

Lets hope my new Miele performs better!!

Disappointed with my Hotpoint WF541 Aquarius in that now my electricity trips when I switch it on due to a filter pump problem. I am unable to unscrew the cap and that I have to pay out after 18 months of usage.
