“I've read all the negative comments aout Nat West...”

written by on 20/02/2010

I've read all the negative comments aout Nat West Mortgages, and it appears most of hem are from people who have been in some sort of trouble with repayments.

I have just got my first mortgage with Natwest, I had a sameday in principle yes decision on the Monday, a text messgae the same day saying the Mortgage Application was being processed. The next day I got a phone call from the Mortgage Advisor in the Branch saying the Mortgage had been agreed, later the same day I got a text message teling me the Mortgage was agreed, subect to the usual legal agreements and valuation.

I would recomemnd to all my friends, but I would suggest that you actually gp into the Branch to see the Mortgage specialist. The whole process was stress free and I'm extremely happy with the way I was treated.

WELL DONE NATWEST.

“I have been experiencing difficulty with our mortgage...”

written by on 09/10/2009

I have been experiencing difficulty with our mortgage repayments for the last 4 months due to my husband being out of work, I am always hearing that you should contact your lender as early as possible to advise them you are struggling as they will try to help you out however I have found this not to be the case. I have contacted them on numerous occasions to see if we could temporarily reduce our standard variable rate mortgage repayments and have had to be put through to their arrears dept (even though I am not in arrears) as they are the only dept who can deal with requests for repayment reductions. The people in that department desperately need customer service training as they have a complete lack of understanding and empathy and they speak to you in the most patronising and degrading manner. As per advice from my Bank Manager I sent a letter to them by special delivery explaining my circumstances and requesting help however when I phoned them 2 weeks later to advise I had not received a reply I was told that although Royal Moail had delivered the letter it had not been logged on Natwest system so they had probably lost it!!! I have now sent a massive complaint letter. I would not recommend Natwest Mortgages to anyone and will be moving my mortgage as soon as my husband is back in work.

“Just to re-affirm the bad experiences everyone else...”

Just to re-affirm the bad experiences everyone else has had. Shame I had to give them any stars at all.....

I'm moving mortgage so request a settlement figure. SIX, yes SIX different settlement figures later, all of them considerably higher than the balance was 2 months previous, and I'm now at a figure I sort of agree on.

Natwest have now dragged their heels for THREE WEEKS to get a new figure out to me, in the meantime I've made another payment on my mortgage, making my settlement figure moot. Let's see how quickly I get the difference back....

To top it off, I had to take Natwest to court 5 years ago - they told me I owed them a grand for an account that was in debit, but considering I'd closed it several years prior to that, I thought Jeremy Beadle was winding me up!

I will ABSOLUTELY NOT talk to Natwest about money again. Ever. Even if they're the last bank on earth, I would rather hide my money under my mattress.

“Natwest are the worst bank i have ever dealt with. ...”

Natwest are the worst bank i have ever dealt with. They took over 7 weeks to send a fax. After phonecalls whilst on holiday, being chased by solicitors, us directly and our mortgage arranger they discovered they had put the wrong reference number on the fax.

We checked prices with them on mortgages directly but decided to go through another company but Natwest decided they didnt like this and cancelled our application and put their own through directly and then took full payment from my partners account without any authorsation.

We constantly had to chase them and they denied all knowledge of receiving paperwork and didnt have any record of any correspondance. I cant wait for our fixed period to be up so we can forget this dreadful period of paying them for doing nothing.

Be very wary of them, they have no idea what they are doing.

I wouldn't recommend NatWest to my worst enemy! My cat could do a better job than these muppets. We've had nothing but lost paperwork, us chasing them, we've not had one call from NatWest to tell us what's happening...we have had to call them every time.

We started the process before Easter, and we are no closer. Wrong names, no paperwork sent when they said it would be, lost faxes, lost ID and so it continues. As soon as we can, we will be getting rid and I will never recommend or touch them again!

Rude staff, you can never get hold of the ones who make the decisions, so I am sure it's a sort of Wizard of Oz set up where a small green man sits behind a shower curtain hiding from people he's scared of.

The only reason they scored 1 is because there are no minuses to choose!!

“Terrible service from NatWest Mortgage looking to...”

Terrible service from NatWest Mortgage looking to change my mortgage as soon as possible. We set up the mortgage in my partners account before setting up a joint account. The joint account was set up by the time we moved in and we tried to switch the mortgage to the joint account.
Instead of doing this they took someone else's mortgage out of the joint account while my partner still paid ours!
We alerted them to this and after being on hold on a premium line for just over an hour we managed to get through to someone who after a further 20 minutes on the premium line agreed to stop this and refund the money as well as swapping the direct debit to come out of the joint.
The next month came and low and behold we were still paying someone elses mortgage out of the joint while my partner was paying for ours we went through the same process again with assurances this would not happen again.
Next month and the mortgage did not come out of my partners account but two mortgages came out of the joint account. Again hours on a premium rate number trying to escalate the problem and get it fixed. We got our refund again and they sent a bottle of cheap wine to my work promising to send it for next day but reliable natwest it took over 2 weeks to arrive. We eventually got it fixed but only after months of complaining and never got any compensation other than a £3 bottle of wine that I could have gotten in Tescos.

“The Natwest Mortgage Centre needs lessons in...”

The Natwest Mortgage Centre needs lessons in communication and customer service. If you are looking for a fast mortgage approval, or fast response to anything once you get your approval, forget about Natwest. Even though I had received initial "in principle" approval, it took them a month to send out the paperwork. And then when they made a mistake with the address on the mortgage, they refused to amend it quickly and held up exchange. As a consequence I am now in serious danger of missing out on the property I really want. They are lamentably hopeless.

Generally the customer service has been excellent over the number of years of operating the One Account. However, the decision makers who sit in their ivory towers with no names or faces have just made a mockery of the underlying traditions of the Account by not passing on for the first time in One Account history the changes in the BOE base rate.

“If you want a re-mortgage and you want it fairly...”

★★☆☆☆

written by Helen of Troy on 21/09/2006

If you want a re-mortgage and you want it fairly quickly and straightforward, don't go to Natwest. SIMPLE. We will be changing after the first year of this re-mortgage.
I requested urgent copy of deeds as we have boundary problems. FOUR times in last two months. Still no joy. They informed me it must be sent to the branch and I need to give the name of an Employee there. Tried that. Still no joy. So the neighbour knocked the wall down anyway.
It seems their Mortgage centre have serious communication problems that they should sort out or lose many more customers in a very competitive market for mortgages.

“Me and my partner have recently applied for a mortgage...”

written by katyboo on 19/01/2006

Me and my partner have recently applied for a mortgage with NatWest. Well, where should I start?

From day one of applying for this mortgage I have had nothing but stress. This is our first property and we had no idea what the process was. Let's just say that they haven't got a clue when it comes to handling mortgages. I used the NatWest call centre to take out my mortgage. From taking out the mortgage, which was in November 2005, we still haven't completed due to NatWest. Their communication levels are poor, and the only way you'll know something is buy calling them.

I would advise you to look elsewhere, unless it's a last resort, as they have done nothing but cause me trouble, and still are now. Me and my partner are under 21, and we knew this would be difficult because of our credit rating, but that is not the case here, it's difficult because of them. We are still going with NatWest because we have paid a lot of money out, and feel that we can not afford to go through this again. After our first 3 years fixed rate are done, so are we.

“This interest only mortgage is great - in the short...”

written by Lucinda Wilby on 20/01/2004

This interest only mortgage is great - in the short term or if you are confident with investments. With the NatWest Interest only mortgage, Your monthly payments will be low as you are only paying interest each month - but that means you are not reducing the original loan. This is fine if you are saving money towards it or plan on selling your property at the end of the loan period.

It is not a long term problem solver, but can help you over a difficult patch and allow you to make decisions your self about how much to save for the future. A grown up option perhaps?!

“I'd had my mortgage for about 3 years with NatWest. I...”

written by amandaeb on 16/01/2004

I'd had my mortgage for about 3 years with NatWest. I had to give up my job through ill health. I followed the recommended advice of letting the mortgage company know. They allowed me not to pay the mortage for three months. (However, I only found out after, that it is reported to the credit reference agencies as late payment).

I still wasn't able to work after this three month period, and help from the DSS didn't kick in til 9 months). I told the mortgage company this and they were completely unhelpful. The bottom line was that if I couldn't pay the mortage I'd have to sell the house, if I didn't do this, then they would.

I thought they would have been more flexible especially because equity in the house had grown, and they were in no danger of not recouping their money.

Unfortunately I was also on a fixed rate mortgage with high redemption penalties, (in the thousands- they have since changed their method of working out redemption penalties). In the years since I took out the mortgage the base rate had gone right down, so I'd been paying them well over the odds for a few years anyway.

Perhaps all mortgage companies are the same, and you only find out their true colours when you have problems.

Hi, I don't know if this is of any help, I used to work for a mortgage company and I don't think you should have been reported to the credit reference agency after arranging a "payment holiday" with the Natwest. Why not try contacting the financial Ombudsmen service for help if you find your not getting anywhere with the Natwest.

We have applied for a mortgage through NatWest, they have asked us to clear a loan before our application is approved. If we clear it what are our chances of being approved for the mortgage?
