“Natwest more like Nah WASTE.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by sxFarley450 on 09/10/2014

The positive comments are most likely to be the insider in the bank to keep their job. i applied to get remortgage to release the equity on a fully paid house, and after four long months of dragging their feet over trivial things, they came up with completely wrong plan and offer at the last minute. Classic Muppets are involved in mortgage centre.its a shame that bunch of idiots are sitting and getting paid good some of salary to do this kind of job.The CEO of this bank s'd fire these useless jokers..THEY ARE JUST WASTE.

written by 152Puckett on 04/09/2014

I read all the reviews before applying and thought I would give them a chance. I wish I hadn't bothered. If you havn't got any credit or your credit is excellent it will be an instant decline, well when I say instant they will stil make u go tgrout the whole affordability part which took 2 hours!!! Why they dont credit check u first I dont know. Also dont think that if your already a natwest customer that this is the easy option as it isnt. The lady there told us that because my partner has been with them for 16 years hes 33 now that they will be able to see what he was like with money for all them years and like most teenagers he wasnt very good with it. although his credit rating is 890 now. Natwest have got the optiom to dig back further than other lenders and they will. I dobt have any debt and the only thing coming out of my account is my phone bill. Apparently this doesnt prove that im goid at repaying. We have found the perfect house a d now im petrified thaf were going to loose it, we got an appointment with a mortgage advisor next week so fingers crossed they will be able to find a company who doesn't solely use a computer system to decide whether we can afford a mortgage (which we easily can. Its just all a farce in my eyes. Only apply to natwest if you dobt need a 95% mortgage and if you havr an excellent credit history with a lot of payments coning out of your acvount. Otherwise u will end wasting 2 hours of yout life...

“Mortgage declined at last minute”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Imanif52 on 03/09/2014

Whatever you do dont go anywhere near Natwest mortgages. Due to complete on Friday and they have pulled out stating 2 reasons which are completely false. Have made a complaint but would advise everyone that if you do decide to go with NatWest prepare yourself for stress and incompetance. Unbelieveable bad service and cant help but think our experience is due to their fine last week of 15 million for mis selling mortgages.

“At the end of my tether”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 481Greenwood on 30/08/2014

As I'm a FTB living abroad, I'm limited as to which mortgage provider I can use, but if you have a choice I would advise you to stay away from Natwest. My offer was accepted in March and I still haven't received an offer from Natwest. They are not proactive and the fact that the mortgage centre is made up of a number of different departments means that no one takes accountability for your case. Every time I call I'm told a different story as to why my case hasn't progressed. The latest issue is that my proof of address wasn't certified correctly BY NATWEST. They've had the proof of address in their possession for 3.5 weeks now and I've called them twice per week to find out what's happening with it and they've only told me this today. So infuriating and such a disappointment. It makes you wonder if you should hand over such a big sum of money to a company so disorganised!

“What a painful process... Nat-NO”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 23/08/2014

I can only agree with most reviews, what a painful process it has been. We are FTB, with a good deposit and good income. AIP was easy to get, but issues started to arise since then (problem with address, aditional documents needed last minute, days to get a response, piece mealed information provided, end goal being pushed times and times again...) We now risk losing a house we really want. I will avoid Natwest moving forward, and would not recommand anyone to use them.

“Natwest - Good service”

★★★★☆

written by on 10/07/2014

Went to a mortgage broker and a mortgage offered by Natwest was selected. The mortgage in question did have a arrangement fee of £995 as well. Done the application, the broker photocopied all the required documents and prepared a file. Paid the brokers fees. Paid for the valuation a week later by phone. A week later the valuation was completed at the property we are buying. Two days later received a letter confirming they have offered us a mortgage. Took about 1 month from the mortgage application to the offer. Pleased with the process and how it all went very smoothly. I guess it helps to have a good mortgage broker to act for you as they generally have a idea of what lender will be most suitable dependent on individual circumstances. Overall very pleased with Natwest Mortgages.

“Not actually advice”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 1946Burton on 06/07/2014

Ive now been on the phone with Natwest for 2 hours today, im on hold again so I thought id write a review. This is on top of the two hours that I spent with the Mortgage adviser yesterday. The joke of it is I am not being advised anything. The process is so painful. I have been asked closed question after closed question so that there is only one product that they can offer. For example "would you prefer to pay a product fee up front if it was cost affective". Natwest would not tell me what they consider cost effective to be (i.e. save more than £1, £50, £1000) to allow me to make the decision. Four hours into the process I have a recommendation. As expected I am only offered one product. The frustrating part of the service is that they are clearly following a script. This could easily be a form on a website which would take 30 minutes. HSBC here I come.

From application to offer it took 2-3 weeks. Excellent turnaround from Natwest, I'm very impressed. Santander on the other hand - Yes like the previous review, you should be ashamed. My application with Santander took 8 wks to process then I was declined!!! Thankfully I applied with Natwest & got the mortgage :)

After a long disappointing process with Santander we reapplied with NatWest. Everything was simple and it took 3 weeks from application to offer. Well done NatWest!!! Santander should be ashamed!!!

“SLOW, INACCURATE AND DISAPPOINTING”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 341English on 22/05/2014

The amount of rings we had to jump through was huge, I understand the rules have changed but some of the sugestions to jump through the rings from a bank was worrying. Paper work was not recorded very well, there was a hold up because the mortgage adviser did not photocopy both sides of our documentation!! BASIC! Small changes took an age to make, very unresponsive at times, calls not returned.

“Everything takes 5 working days”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Bill_Leigh on 19/05/2014

Summary of experience: SLOW, inconsistency, lack of communication. Our offer was accepted on the 4th of Feb 2014. After being refused by Chelsea BS, We went with NatWest as we already banked with them. My thought was this would make the referencing and search process quicker & easier. Booked an appointment in branch so all docs etc could be scanned in on the day. Took 2 weeks to get an appointment (17th of Feb). The meeting was nice & positive and the lender assured us we'd have a mortgage agreed in 'a couple of weeks'. First issue was asking a reference from my employer as they did not provide signed consent from me - this wasted 2-3 weeks of sending the wrong document multiple times, in the end I provided it directly to my employer. Any hard copy docs received by NatWest appear to take 1 working day to scan in to the system and then will take 5 working days to be reviewed by the underwriters. Decision finally made and we we're accepted pending the valuation - 5 working days of course before that happened and another 5 working days for the under writers to view the 2 page report. Good news back from the valuation though so I was assured the agreed mortgage offer and valuation was sent out. Except it wasn't. A change in internal policy apparently meant it had to be re-written. So 5 working days later and the documents are posted! One telephone operator says I wont receive a copy another does - a lot of inconsistency when you speak to phone operators. 2 working days later I receive my copy - phoned our solicitor, they don't have a copy. After another couple of NatWest phone calls I get the snippet of information that although my copy as sent by Royal Mail 1st class, the solicitors copy was sent by UK mail - you guessed it - up to 5 working days. So that will be tomorrow 20th of May. we have to move out of rented accommodation on the 9th of June, NatWest have made this process infinitely slower than it ever should have been and at this rate we risk being homeless if we can't have exchange & completion inside of 2 weeks.

“WORST BANK EVER - do not get a ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Franklintw268 on 10/05/2014

My Partner and I sat with our Mortgage adviser and applied with NatWest as they were the best for myself being a first time buyer and my partner having already paid off a previous mortgage. We are currently staying with relatives having sold our flat and the vendors of the house we have put an offer on are not buying therefore presumed it would be a simple process. My partner and I also have a 40% Deposit, therefor assuming this would make everything easier and still having some money left over for renovations and fees. Our offer on the house was accepted on 03.03.2014 and we only received our welcome pack from NatWest acknowledging our mortgage application YESTERDAY to find out NatWest are holding money in retention until we get building work completed. My Partner and I now have lost a substantial amount of money from our savings to make up a bigger deposit to even get the house, leaving us with hardly any money to renovate. The bank will then release the funds by lowering our monthly payments over 30 years when we require out lump sum of cash for work - absolute joke and VERY SLOW!!

“Extremely bad experience with Natwest for Mortgage”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 1971Sharp on 07/05/2014

We applied for our mortgage on the 9th February. The response was quick. We carried on the process. We have already found a house. We still do not have a mortgage offer on paper as Natwest claims they have sent it 4 times and in the post and we have not received anything and they have faxed it twice to our solicitors again nothing received. This has been going on since the 14th April today is the 7th of May and still waiting. We could og completed by now if it wasn't for the service of Natwest.

We are in the exact same position and time frame as you. Ours is being held up by natwest auditing themselves on our application we have provided everything they have requested only to be told they now want something different. As with you we should have completed by now but still have no mortgage offer. Have you got yours yet and what did you have to do too speed the up.

Well today 8th May the solicitors received our mortgage offer via fax finally. We have a mortgage advisor who speak to Natwest on our behalf they had asked numerous times for the mortgage offer to be sent via post and fax. She eventually had to speak to a business development manager as she was at a loss of what to do. He then sent it through this morning. Its ridiculous I am very annoyed as I am guessing you are.

“Excellent service from mortgage team”

★★★★★

written by Renee91 on 06/05/2014

My partnered and I are first time buyers and we were applying for a 95% mortgage. I had read so many bad reviews online for Natwest Mortgage services that I really didn't hold out much hope of us getting a mortgage. I couldn't have had a better experience with Natwest. We went to Natwest in Queens Road Clifton. We were asked to bring in ID documents and three months bank statements and payslips. The whole process took about two and a half hours but everything was done there and then including signing all the paperwork and the credit check. We went away with our offer in principle on paper and within two weeks our mortgage had been officially approved and gone to the underwriters and completed. Natwest phoned us to tell us what was happening at every step in the process and we had the offer of loan paperwork with our solicitor within two weeks of our mortgage application. Every part of the process was faultless. Thank you Natwest.

“Ridiculously slow progress on straight mortgage...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Perryql114 on 21/04/2014

Decided to apply for nat west mortgage as review on the money programme said it was recommended for first time buyers. The mortgage application is a very straight forward one but nat west processing has so far taken 3 months!!! We are in danger of losing the flat just because of their poor processing. It is awful and if you are looking for a mortgage don't choose nat west!!

“First time buyer mortgage ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by gaShelton1971 on 04/04/2014

Worst experience I've ever gone through. After myself and my partner had found our perfect house we were ready to go ahead having the deposit saved. It's taken natwest MONTHS to respond to our mortgage. Sent them countless bank statement proof of work everything. Financially my partner and I are guaranteed a mortgage we both earn a reasonable amount of money so what is it that's taking them so long. Today we were guaranteed an answer for our solicitors to only ring us and say that natwest had only gone and reviewd the wrong case! Absolutely fuming!!!!

“Great for first time buyers”

★★★★☆

written by AaliyahMcClure416 on 18/03/2014

After visiting a mortgage advisor who told me that we were too young (we are both 22) and had no credit rating - so no one would lend to us, I went to Natwest myself (after banking with them for 10+ years) The initial phone call application lasted 3 and a half hours but eventually I was told that we were accepted in principle, so the next day we went into our local branch and took all the relevant documentation in. The response took several weeks and we were phoned weekly with updates - the valuation on the property didn't go to plan as we were told that it needed work for mortgage purposes so there was a delay whilst we contacted the vendor to see if he was willing to have the work done (which he is!) Natwest were quick about coming back and as it had been a month or so since the inital application we had to do another to ensure our situation was the same. Our offer was with us within 2 days of the new 'application' - and we are currently waiting for the contracts to be drawn up. The only thing I would say is that they are quite sneaky with the money - they told us they would under value it by £4500 which we paid as an 'extra' deposit as the vendor wouldn't accept a lower price, and now they are saying that they are retaining £3000 until the roof repairs are done. So hopefully the repairs can be done quickly before we complete!! Definitely recommend Natwest though.

“Time wasters - could cost us our home!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 15/02/2014

Frustrated to have wasted so much time with Natwest - now the race is on to secure a mortgage within 48hrs or lose our first home. We used a broker and got an AIP for a mint application as FTB very quickly from Natwest. Made an offer on a house, it was accepted and removed from open market - we were so excited! All relevant paperwork was submitted at time of AIP and yet Natwest took 4 weeks to actually put our application to the underwriter... then they stalled further and wanted clarification of our current address as it appeared differently on Land Registry/Royal Mail records (something they apparently hadn't noticed when doing the AIP?!) We sorted the records out and confirmed the official address with Land Registry, forwarded all documents once again and waited 5 days to then be told our application was reflected due to my 'previous conduct' on a Natwest student account - over 12 years ago! It seems having a squeaky clean credit file, no outstanding debts, higher than average income and over a 10% deposit isn't enough if the bank decide to check out of date records that are not even showing on your credit file... When I was a student and banked with Natwest, I went over my overdraft limit a few times (and paid £28 charges each time!) so Natwest have said they will NEVER lend to me and I cannot appeal. I wouldn't be so mad if it hadn't taken them 5 weeks to tell me something they knew at the point of the AIP! We have less than 48hrs to secure a new mortgage before the seller puts the house back on the market as he is fed up waiting for things to progress. Our broker feels the decision is very unfair as they are using information that no other lender would have access to and it's out of date in terms of my published credit file (which has no defaults what-so-ever). I'm wondering what the point is of having a decent credit score if the lender is going to ignore it. We could have saved time, heartache and damage to our credit files if Natwest had just refused us at the AIP stage (after all, they had the info available to them from the start!) - now we must apply elsewhere and risk being refused due to too many applications for credit. And being told we cannot even appeal is surely against the Ombudsman rules?
