“Trust me with this one on no account do not let...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Blackburn393 on 22/01/2016

Trust me with this one on no account do not let Natwest use optima legal for your mortgage you can use different solicitors if your unsure about optima legal read there reviews I wish I had done 4 months so far and no where even close on sorting this mortgage out by the time I get this mortgage sorted out the fixed rate will probably have ended, Natwest are fully aware of all the complaints that have been made about optical legal solicitors but I suppose it suits Natwest cause it takes so long you only get a couple of months discounted mortgage so don't think you are going to get it for 12 or 24 months Optima legal worst solicitors I have ever used and I have used loads Natwest for using them or are they actually using them cause they save money cause it takes so long and you only get a few months of a fixed rate ?

“Slow, bad communication, held everything up”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Georgiaz106 on 09/01/2016

My buyer is using Natwest Mortages. Not only do they use the surveyor with the worst reputation (which was justified when the valuation was lower and apparently my house is falling down around my ears!) but even after us agreeing a lower price they are still messing around. They realised they were missing a payslip and now something else - they had previously confirmed they have everything. Totally useless, go with someone else, have heard such better reviews about other banks.

“NatWest you are useless!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Skinner427 on 27/10/2015

Waiting for our confirmation of funds in order to exchange contracts and just being lied to constantly about when this will be. I asked what worse case scenario would be and they said we don't send a confirmation until the funds have been released and this could be the day of completion!! So basically you are forcing us all to exchange and complete on the same day.... maybe.... UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!!!! But now out of my control so I'm having to run the risk that something will go wrong or someone will pull out and we all lose our removals, annual leave taken etc... I have banked with them for the last 18 years and expected a bit more help and eficiency than this. I won't be getting another mortgage with them and I will certainly be moving my current account. My advice is look elsewhere for any banking service.

“Remortgage with them, watch your house value reduce by 20k”

★☆☆☆☆

written by LouisKing469 on 17/08/2015

I have now waited 5 weeks for a remortgage which got the grand 'yes' within days, all was looking great. 2.39 % interest, able to borrow a further 5 k for home improvements.. All until the 'drive by' valuation came back 20k less than it was worth 2 years ago when a proper survey was conducted. This I believe is a common tactic they are employing towards all their remortgage customers. Credit check, yes, re-morgage, yes.. accept with much higher payments than intially anticipated as your house suddenly loses value! Try as I have done to challenge them and their processing department have declined an official valuation report and house sale figures I have found off the internet- the most recent reason for refusing extensive paperwork sent in.. because their processing team are unable to open 'hyperlinks' provided on word documents attached to emails! If I'd have known I would have had this wait and would have had to pay more than I set out do do so due to the undervaluation, I would have never put myself through the credit reference check. Of course now I have which traps me as I cannot look elsewhere without worrying I may fail further credit checks. I would warn all people against remortgaging with them. I have banked with them for 22 years and this makes no difference to the way they treat me. Steer well clear!

“shocking service including outright lies.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ChristopherLangston on 28/06/2015

Currently being told by the seller that the property we wanted a motage for is being put back on the market. The reason for this is due to the information that we were given by Natwest Mortage Centre was a total lie and the seller no longer trusts us. nearly two full weeks of zero communication from Natwest only to be told that we did not give the required documents. In actual fact the documents have been with Natwest from day one and four Natwest employees have promised us that they have passed the information on. Mortage centre employee put us on hold and then said that they had spoken to the underwriters and the mortage was approved and the survey would be donein the next three days. This was an out and out lie. The next day the mortage centre phoned us to say not only had the mortage not been approved but they STILL did not have the documents requested. By this time we had contacted the seller to say that all was ok. I have lodged a formal complaint with Natwest and seeking compensation but after being told that no one is available to help for the next two weels, i am not expecting much. Next step is my complaint to the financial ombudsman. Closing all my Natwest accounts asap. DO NOT TRUST THIS BANK.

“Slow”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 378Christian on 21/06/2015

My purchaser is using Natwest as his banks with them in their private banking section. They have been so slow and no matter what timescales they give him, they breach it. I accepted the offer over 6 weeks ago and they have still not carried out the valuation. Do not use them. I used the halifax for mine. Application, valuation and offer all in under 2 weeks.

“Building Survey not booked”

★☆☆☆☆

written by roreilly on 22/05/2015

We paid for a building survey with Natwest which we understood had been booked in and done. I enquiries after 2 weeks why we had not received the report and was told it must be in the post. Another week later I called again to find that they had only instructed a valuation rather than a survey. I was told it would be sorted- NO APOLOGY. Three days later I called Legal and General to follow up and was told there was a stop on the survey. Eventually it has been instructed and may take up to 10 days to book in. Five weeks later- PATHETIC!!! I have been told countless lies by irresponsible and careless staff.

“Not that impressed so far.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by JEdmonds on 21/05/2015

Had initial meeting in local branch on 25th April 2015, rung them today, (as all we have heard from to date, is the solicitor they appointed to act on our/their behalf). It would seem that there was a couple of notes on their system, put on their on 29th April 2015, requesting further information from us, but hadn't thought to contact us via email/post or telephone to ask for this extra information, so for the past month, nothing has moved forwards on our application, and if I hadn't of rung them today, we still wouldn't of known. I didn't realise that getting a buy to let remortgage would be so hard, when we initially bought the house and took out a buy to let 2yrs ago with Halifax, their dealings of our application was a breeze and straight forward.

“Brilliant from start to finish”

★★★★★

written by KarterGreene102 on 03/05/2015

We made an initial appointment with our branch mortgage advisor to see where we were and had a 5% deposit to begin with. She didn't mess around, told us we had a bit of work to do with our credit files as they were not accurate and talked us through everything we needed to do to proceed. The whole team at the branch supported us, always replied promptly to questions and called us back without fail as we were first time buyers so was all new to us. They were fantastic and worked with us every step of the way right down to completion. The whole process from application to getting keys was a lot shorter than expected and we are unlikely to bank with anyone else. They were just great.

“SLOW, INEFFICIENT AND SLOW”

★☆☆☆☆

written by GaelGrace77 on 08/04/2015

We applied for a natwest mortgage as a second time buyer (have another property as buy to let), and as I also bank with Natwest, thought I stand a better chance of going with the bank that knows my financial history better than anyone else. How wrong I was. They took forever to initially consider it, wasted precious time doing diddly squat, valuation took over 5 weeks to be instructed then they sat on it for another 4 weeks. Will they offer, won't they offer ? I didn't realise it was a joke. I thought house purchase was a serious event, not to Natwest it ain't. If you want to buy a house - DO NOT GO TO THE NATWEST. THEY WASTE TIME, ARE VERY LAZY & slow. Did I mention they are extremely slow ? Any slower and they will be going backwards.

“Awful service shocking attitude from underwriter.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Bender199 on 14/03/2015

Booked an appointment in branch to sort out a mortgage already had the agreement in principal which was done online was told to bring lots of paperwork. Went into the appointment to be told you don't need any of that then he did the same online agreement in principal and booked another appointment for 2 weeks down the line. went back in for the next appointment which was told would last 2 to 3 hours it took 5.5 hours as the system crashed twice and after all that only to be told at the very last minute "oh it's been reffered sorry" no reason why it's been put to the underwriter, we were looking to borrow 2.25 times our annual income and both had printed credit reports showing 999 and 968 no bad credit ever no missed or late payments in over 7 years, with a disposable income of over £4800 per month to say I was amazed was an understatement the very helpful mortgage adviser was equally shocked so he contacted the underwriter on our behalf to find out what the problem was. the response from the underwriter was "NO and I won't even look at the application or tell you why" Thanks for wasting my time and giving me a negative mark on my immaculate credit report I wouldn't have minded if they told me what was wrong so I could fix whatever the mistake was but not even that. So much for NAT-Yes. back office staff treat customers like dirt and expect customer loyalty.

“business bank manager ruined my finances natwest...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by DakotaLoomis on 05/03/2015

I got into financial difficulty in 2009,after being made redundant. I was in the middle of financing my own business, already had a steady mortgage with Natwest. Told to get business manager account for finance. Got refused finance for business. Second option get a job. I did. Unfortunately this took a month or so to dk. I tried calling the bank. You need to speak with bm, tried for three long months. No response.cant talk yo anyone in branch. I've now missed three months payments as my overfraft arrears are still racking up. I cant stop my loan interest or talk to anyone relating to these due to bm. In the end I had to go screaming and shouting in branch to close it down to talk about my mortgage. Now bcos of thus they will not let me remortgage as its 'my' fault bm was uncontactable! Natwest get a grip. Natwest need to review their banking processes tk help working class people!

“NatWest are too slow”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 24/02/2015

I am still waiting for a response to my mortgage application which has been with NatWest for over 2 months. They have a queue system for reviewing a case (fair enough) but this means that if they require further documentation or clarification from you, you will go to the back of the queue. In spite of my submitting all the requested documents in the first instance they requested further items 4 times, with about 10 days in between each request. Why could they not be thorough and request them all at one time? The home valuation took place 9 days ago, I am still waiting for a response from them. Today they used the 'our computer systems are down for maintenance' excuse. I am now afraid the seller will find someone else to buy their home.

“Very poor”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ivDelaney364 on 15/02/2015

Had a meeting, my credit rating, salary and out goings were reviewed. I mentioned I had a student loan and was informed that it would not be considered. They kindly printed a mortgage in principle for 150k and told me to view some properties. I found the perfect house for my family and had an offer accepted for 145k and booked an appointment for the application. Over 2 hours of questions and clicking boxes and I had been told all was good and signed on the dotted line. Only to return to pick up my bag 30 minutes later, to be told that they had over looked that I make student loan payments and that I could no longer borrow the required amount. Disappointed is an understatement, and this will undoubtedly affect my credit rating.

“Re mortgage nightmare ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Willowc268 on 14/12/2014

It has been 2 months and they still have not offered this mortgage, Asked for additional funds to help fund a new car. Lost the car and nearly a friendship due to the time this lot have taken. multiple calls and they just tell you anything to get you off the phone. cannot believe how bad this experience has been, they are the poorest mortgage company I have ever known. When you call its ridiculous hold times. Bitterly disappointed 10 days till xmas and still no sign of a completion. as for the new car will need to pay full price now which is £1500 more than I would have paid if they would have completed by end of November as advised.

“Uncooperative unhelpful unresponsive”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Connolly19 on 08/12/2014

4 years after a court order stated my name should come off a mortgage it hasn't happened. Why? Well, my ex is considered too much of a liability to have a mortgage on her own despite us now being divorced and despite her living with her fiancé in my house. The Court can't order the bank to remove my name, just the ex to use her 'best endeavours', which means I can't get a mortgage with my current wife enabling us to move to a bigger property to accommodate our 2 children. I don't pay the mortgage at all, I haven't done for 4 years, after I cleared the arrears the ex built up. Natwest keep me out of the loop, put marks against my credit file when they agree with my ex payment schemes and don't bother telling me. When I complain, the complaint is upheld and what do Natwest do? Send me £50 cheque every time. All I want is my name off a mortgage I have nothing to do with for a property I haven't lived in for over 6 years. It's not hard is it?

“DONT BOTHER”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 66Porter on 08/11/2014

Having seen an auction property that I was interested in I went to visit a broker a month ago. We needed a residential mortgage on the new property (a wreck)and a buy to let on our existing property to release a large amount of equity we have. The buy to let with Natwest was agreed in principle 3 weeks ago along with the residential mortgage with another lender. 3 days before the auction we arranged for both applications to be put through. The residential mortgage with the other lender was sorted in 2 working days survey complete and offer received. We are still waiting for Natwest to finalise an offer afer 2 weeks. They have dropped our initial offer from 75% to 72% and my broker has spent the last 5 days trying to sort this out, unreturned calls etc. As of today we now only have 5 weeks to complete our mortgage or lose the house and a lot of money and I have very little faith in Natwest at the moment. We are now looking at a bridging loan as a back up plan. I cant understand how another lender can offer a large mortgage on a property that needs a lot of work in 2 days, yet Natwest cannot even give an answer in 2 weeks. Very frustrated and angry

“Donot, I repeat DONOT go for this bank! ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by LandynAnderson85 on 30/10/2014

I'm still on hold with the natwest mortage centre from past 2 hrs and frustrated I decided to finally write my heart out. Trust me DONOT go for this bank and risk your valuable time and effort. I'm going through the WORST experience of my lifetime. I haven't been through this much stress in life. This is the 3rd property I'm risking and nearly about to lose- thanks to stupid Natwest. Such a disappointing and shameful behaviour on behalf of this bank. Just ONE query took 2 months- just one simple query that had to be replied with a yes/no answer. And these past 2 months I have been calling them more than 10 times a day. The people who pick up the phone have literally no knowledge or idea and they just come up with new false things everytime you call. The system is c-rap and annoying. I'm on the verge of losing my property again just becuase of this stupid c-rappy system and c-rappy bank. I would never recommend anyone to go for this bank. NEVER EVER. Mark my words. The slowest bank ever. Hate this bank and screw them. Awesome! Now they don't even let you use words that are actually describe them. Banned words wow.

“Easiest Transaction Ever”

★★★★★

written by JayleenBrewer on 12/10/2014

Having read the reviews on this site i have to say I am surprised at the negativity based on my pain free, quick and easy re-mortgage. Maybe it was the fact it was a re-mortgage to finance an extension (?), but, regardless, from start to finish took roughly 3 weeks and I could not be happier with the service. The only long pole was the 4 hours! affordability check in the branch, but once that and the credit checks were complete, the rest was easy. Received two phone calls to advise me of status, the solicitors forms were quick and simple and the monies were transferred on the exact date they specified. Would definitely recommend. And for the pessimists on here - no I do not work for Natwest!!
