I've had mine for 3 years now. Still happy with it and still pulls like a train. Yes, flywheel is on its way out (has been for well over 5k now), and i've done the alternator last year and had a new inlet manifold 2 years ago under warranty. But, if you know what to look out for when buying, and use independant dealers rather than main(quoted £650 for flywheel, slave, clutch and cambelt change), then you encounter no more problems than Mondeo's etc... That said, i'm going to change mine next year.... to a SRI Signum!! :)

“Vectra CDTI SRI 150 All common faults occured”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 06/03/2012

I bought this car taking the internet rumours with a pinch of salt. Within 2 months of ownership its needed an alternator (common fault) and it now needs a dual mass flywheel and to top it all the cambelt tensioner is rattling. That combined is nearly £1000 worth of repairs. I still think they are good cars; they're comfy, very torquey and return superb MPG's but lets be honest, the common faults are a joke. Every owners forum i've been on state these three problems are a dead cert. Why haven't Vauxhall recalled the cars??? Overall i'd say good value for money, but keep £1000 aside to repair the inevitable.

had this 3 years as a taxi, serviced at recommended intervals plus interim services due to its use as a taxi always using fully synth oil and quality parts.replaced turbo, air condensor, alternator, starter motor,5 batteries, electrical problems galore etc. the one thing I like about the car is it's quick but at a price. The Fiat engine albeit quick is unreliable, leaky and the general Vauxhall build quality is rubbish.3 vectras I have had now and no chance of another vauxhall unless it's a very low price or Volkswagon or Toyota build them on their behalf....which I suppose is unlikely.End of the road for me and vauxhall this time and try something else.Customer service in the UK is never good at the end of the day and vauxhall certainly excel at giving you as little as is possible.Manufacturers don't want to be paying out on warranty claims if they can get away with it.....well build them properly to start with and you won't have to!

Bought my vectra sri 1.9cdti in april 08 & it was a year old had no problems with it untill the warrenty finished last april since then i've had to put a new clutch & flywheel in in july last year then in january past i had to put a new alternator in & now the car's up for MOT in this month the engine warnig light has come (the same day i booked my MOT)so i brought it to my own mechanic to get a diagnostic done at £20 as vauxhall where charging me £75 for the same thing....THEIR A JOKE! So my mechanic done the diagnostic & it showed up as something to do with the exhaust great good knows how much this will cost as i've already spent £1800 in the past nine months, yes it's a nice lookin & performing car speed etc. but it's destroyed me on servicing.

How ironic , same car same problems and soon after the warranty ran out , had to replace clutch and dual mass flywheel in January/Feb this year . My engine light is now coming on and the car is now jerking at times when moving. Vauxhall are definitely a joke - overcharging at every opportunity and still not rectifying problem - guess it's so you keep going back to them.

DO NOT BUY THIS CAR UNLESS YOU HAVE MONEY TO BURN. I have had a Vectra 1.9cdti SRi for three years and its rendered me destitute. I have bought several Vauxhalls over the years and thought I'd picked a bad apple. No. These are ALL bad apples. You can guarantee this. You WILL experience some if not all of the following; EGR valve grief, Swirl Valve (inlet manifold) grief, Injector wiring grief, mass flow meter grief, AT BEST. They are all expensive fixes and Vauxhall will NOT be interested (how this is even legal is beyond me). Get a passat, or an audi, or a volvo (not a Saab or a Fiat - its the same engine), or a mondeo ST TDCi (brill) or even an Alfa. It goes well, has a big boot, looks decent and eats up motorway miles well, but it also eats money.

You say that ALL Vectras are bad apples - not so. I bought a Vectra new in 2008 and in 4 years its covered 100,000 miles and I've not even had one single problem or fault - not even one!! Vectra - absoultely superb car. I've had Mondeos and VW Passats and which has been the most comfortable, the most reliable and fastest by a mile - the Vectra 1.9 cdti 150 bhp. Superb car.

“Vauxhall Vectra Exclusiv 1.9 CDTi. I bought this car...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by John Prescott on 10/03/2011

Vauxhall Vectra Exclusiv 1.9 CDTi. I bought this car from new at my local Lookers dealer. It was ok for 2 years and the only problems I had was constantly changing light bulbs all around the car. It got that way that every time I got into the car another bulb had gone sometimes 2 at a time.

I had done 23K miles in the first 2 years then I started to get problems. Luckily for me the car was still under warranty and over the next 12 months the bottom pulley on the crankshaft sheered off followed by the alternator blowing followed by the dreaded dual mast fly wheel disintegrating. I started taxying in this car and after speaking to the other taxi drivers with Vectras it was the wrong car for this job as we all have the same problems. Over the last 12 months since i went over the warranty limit of 60K miles the car has never been out of the garage and has cost me a small fortune. Problem include bottom pulley on crankshaft sheared off again TWICE. Alternator blew AGAIN. EGR valve. Clutch. Front wheel bearing. Numerous oil leaks. To mention but a few and it is currently in the garage having the flywheel replaced AGAIN. By the way a few tips to Vectra owners. If your battery is on its way out it WILL blow your alternator. If your flywheel goes it WILL ruin your starter motor. And final tip never buy a Vauxhall again.

I have a 1.9 cdti, i bout it as an ex lease car at 3 years old. milage above average (80k) but the engine seemed clean and the car ok. i now have 182k on the clock and have yet to have a problem with the engine. i think maybe i have just been lucky. i do change the oil every 8-10k miles so more often than suggested by main dealer. only things i have had to change are rear suspension bushes, broken rear spring and a headlight that a pheasant took out! so all in all i like the car and have no problems with it. i know there is a few jobs that need doing, one of the front shocks is a bit damp, so that will need changing for the next MOT and the condenser for the A/C has taken a battering from stone chip damage. front strut top bearings are a bit noisey. all exceptable wear and tear i guess at 0ver 180k milage.

Have owned this joke of a car since sept 09, it is a vecta 1.9 150 nav xp. Problems started jan 10, it has had an alternator,2 new batteries, air mass meter, egr valve. Now it is in for inlet manifold problem, down to vauxhall, who washed hands of problem.Injector seal, nav display draining battery, according to Vauxhall. This car has had nearly £4000 spent on it in a year, I would never buy another Vauxhall. The customer complaints at Vauxhall/GM motors are an absolute joke, they fob you off with promise of higher management investigation. To be quite frank this must be a very busy dept as the product they produce is so poor.

They are going for peanuts. I picked up an 57 last December for £3,500 from a dealer. Now I know why they were going so cheap. They will cost you a fortune to repair and run. The clutch's gone and they are not easy or cheap to replace. The whole clutch kit with labour will cost you a good £800. To replace the timing belt etc £650 etc etc. They are very expensive to maintain beware.

Owned a vectra Sri 150 Xpack in flame red, 19inch alloys, stunning car, had no issues unitl trade in at 33k. Decided to change to an estate car when baby number two was due for the extra space. Dual mass fly wheel and clutch was going and needed replacing cost 1300 at vauxhall dealer. This is a common fault with lots of other diesels and not only vauxhall. Had the same thing happen on a peugeot 307 HDI 2.0, again cost over 1300k. These are only good for about 3/4 years of motoring before they a prone to failure. Vauxhall would not cover under warranty either as said they would only cover up to 18500 miles, what a load of tosh the warranty is then! Other than this fault car has been great, loads of power, very economical about 45mpg and handles superb. Very expensive the tyres though on the 19inch low profiles, about £175 each toyo's. Ouch !!!

written by on 11/01/2011

Have had a 1.9 CDTI SRI estate which was a demonstrator, since it was six months old. Whilst good performance has spent a large amount of time in the workshops, EGR Valve, alternator replaced under warranty at 28000 miles. Wiring loom to injectors, suspension mountings, alarm module, interior light module all went when 4 months out of warranty....vauxhall refused to replace or contribute to cost even though they were known common faults. To add insult to injury whilst they were test driving the car the clutch failed due to a faulty thrust bearing which they also refused to pay for or contibute towards and now at 58000 miles the wiring loom to injectors and EGR valve have again gone and they refuse to pay as out of 12 month guarantee on the original repairs. The car has been in approx eight times for engine management light being on and with fault codes, but they keep saying that nothing is wrong even though the instrument panel/ radio/ sat nav fuses kept on blowing.

written by on 25/11/2010

The 150 bhp 1.9 CDTi manages to provide a great compromise between economy and power. Even when fully laden it feels like there is almost limitless torque which makes high speed motorway and A road driving stressfree. Unfortunately this is the most unreliable and expensive car I have ever owned - its been off the road three times this year for expensive known faults - inlet manifold swirl valves and egr (warranty), water pump and cam belt (Vauxhall contributed 70%) and now alternator (hoping Vauxhall might contribute). AC has also packed up but waiting till the summer - I might dump the car before then. Very disappointed - this is my 4th Vauxhall Cavalier/Vectra and will now probably be my last Vauxhall. Dealers are unhelpful and patronising and Vauxhall just doesn't get it.

★★☆☆☆

written by on 17/11/2010

I've always thought the Vectra C SRI version looked great and opted for the 2005 1.9 CDTi 120 SRi 2 years ago- what a disappointment!! The performance is awful, it sounds like a tank and it's failed both MOT's. I bought the car to replace my ageing volvo S60 2.0T but it's not even close to how this performed or the comfort, the Volvo had 115,000 miles and was 9 years old however I'd have it back in a flash- I wish I'd never changed! The vectra has now got 59,000 miles and so far I've had to replace the EGR valve, the alternator, the front shocks, the alarm constantly goes off, the emission light is constantly on and the service indicator comes on every couple of months even after a full service and going round a corner is the scariest thing ever- the front end twitches at low speed and it saps any confidence you have in it! If Vauxhall had sorted these problems out it would have been a fantastic car but they didn't and so it's a huge disappointment. The only good things are it's very practical and still looks good- stay away from the 120bhp version and if you do buy one make sure it's been well looked after!

Vectra elite diesel 1.9cdti 150 bph55 .6 mpg average over 57,000 miles since bought second hand from Vauxhall motors. 90% of driving on motorway , including some long trips across central europe at higher speeds ( 90 -110 mph).
Alternator went at 67,000 miles and £380 for Vauxhal dealer to replace. That's all so far.
