“cold food and not good service”

I took a friend to café rouge in Reading oracle for dinner. We waited a short while to get some service, when my soup arrived it was cold, then the main course of lamb shank with mash potato arrived, that was cold too, The reason we didn't ask to take it back was because we were very hungry and chose finish our meal. I have been to café rouge many times and I was very disappointed at the service and the food. I feel now as though I will not be going back to café rouge in the future.

“very good service”

visited café rouge at Cheshire Oaks, had a lovely meal, the waitress, was very good, cheerful, interacted, and told us of new items available. Also had a glass of Preseco because it was my birthday. Would recommend to family and friend, and would go again when visiting the area.

“Go somewhere else”

Went to the Reading branch on Wednesday. Paid 5p short of £9 for a supposedly 3 egg cheese omelette with a pathetic number of French fries. When the omelette arrived it was barely the size of half a small tea plate and flat as a pancake. So much for the filling lunch I was hoping for. If it was 3 eggs, they must have been quails eggs or, more likely a couple of squirts of the liquid egg these places tend to use & they cut the amount used to the bare minimum. As for the cheese, I had to eat half the omelette before I found any at all & there was so little that "plain omelette" would have been a more apt description. The cost of the raw materials for this was pence. I used to visit the Windsor branch often but had noticed this one also was progressively getting worse. Perhaps new management with a policy of ripping off customers who then go elsewhere, like me from now on. Avoid if you want your meal to be the same as the menu description

“Cafe Rouge O2 Arena - worst service ever! ”

Attempted to have tea for 2 at Café Rouge just outside the O2 arena yesterday afternoon, after seeing the Dalai Lama, as my companion had back pain and needed to rest a while. I usually find Café Rouge venues offer consistently good service, food etc - not this one!! When we arrived the manager(?)/waiter told us he'd be over to take our orders, 20 minutes later he still hadn't. My friend attracted his attention, he replied 'yes sir' then walked away again and didn't return. The restaurant was fairly empty when we arrived, the manager spent all his time seating people (as it was getting busy from people leaving the event) but in all that time not one order was taken by either the manager or the 2 other staff on duty. My friend and I left after 35 minutes, having still not been asked for our order. Thanks Café Rouge O2 for the chance to sit-down, and free use of your toilets: tea and cake would have been nice but we weren't prepared to put up with your appalling service any longer!

“Fabulous food”

We visited Cafe Rouge Leicester three times during the Christmas season and then for my birthday at the beginning of January. We tried several different meals, i.e. turkey, duck and steak during these visits. All were delicious. We can definitely recommend this restaurant, not only for the wonderful food, but also for the staff and surroundings. We met several different members of staff, all very caring. The manager  was lovely, so helpful and knowledgable about the different meals and the wine. Everyone made us feel special. Thank you, we will be back for more.

“Want my 2.5 hrs back please!”

Time spent sadly too long in Cafe Rouge Exeter, before we gave in and left still awaiting dessert! on not a busy evening. Our evening went dramatically downhill after the starters which were good & hot. Followed by over a 50 minute wait for our main course....we had all 4 of us ordered the ENTRECÔTE steak (med rare & med cooked) with french fries & etc side salads. I'm surprised the lovely waitress wasn't embarrassed serving the food to us, the fries looked & were stone cold hard as if they'd been standing around for sometime? Sorry looking piece of grey steak, again luke warn overcooked and truly chewy - we all have our own teeth. I guess one tomato constitutes as side salad with a slice of chopped onion? green salad was green - about 15 leaves... Fries were refreshed, which were fine and we ate those after we had eaten our steaks. Dessert yes please 3 creme brulee's & chocolate Fondant. 20 minutes later - sorry no creme brulee's at this point I'm thinking we should have left at the main course...benefit of hindsight! reordered different desserts, restaurant is pretty much empty at this point, 15 minutes later still no puds and its 10pm.............we gave in & asked for the bill. A sad end to an evening which we had all been looking forward to with my parents in the lead up to Christmas!

“fix price menu”

mistake selecting the fix price menu , very disappointing food was edible , watery sauce on the pasta, not buttery. avacado and bacon salad- bacon anaemic- chicken in bread crumbs with roasted new potatoes and herby salad turned out to be , chips, watery salad, iceberg lettuce a few tomatoes and sliced radish ? Service was fine and food served quickly , Food quality on fixed price menu disappointing ,

I absolutely adore this restaurant. The staff are so pleasant and not at all annoying (asking hows your food while you have a mouth full). They notice you as soon as you give them eye contact, very quick service. The food is always done well. This is the only restaurant in Lakeside that is worth going to, just because of the amazing service.

“Rubbish staff”

Woking restaurant, only our table of two and two others were occupied. Service was slow with most of the staff standing around talking and doing nothing. Our food was up on the pass for about 10minutes before we had to shout at the staff to get it, the poor chef had dinged the bell about 4/5 times but they were too busy talking about somebodys party that they were going to that night. Salad had wilted, pointed this out to the 'waitress' who simply shrugged her shoulders, she said we could 'order another one' but would have to wait 10mins or so! Not possible as we were going to the cinema, halfway through eating the main course the chef came over and had a quiet word apologising for the service and said he will speak to them later. This is the only saving grace of the entire meal. Pathetic, ignorant and lazy serving staff.

“service food value”

“Appalled”

I have regularly dined at Café Rouge throughout England. Yesterday evening my friends and I reserved a table at Café Rouge London, Holborn ( Kingsway) where we ate for a birthday celebration. Waiting staff virtually ignored our table; we continually had to ask for service. The waitress was almost rude when we did so. We were not informed of items not available on the menu until we ordered. Food was poorly plated and I had to wait 10 mins for a steak knife to eat my meal. We asked for drinks three times before they were served. Two desserts were served cold ( yes a chilled crème brulee) and staff preferred to polish cutlery instead of bring us the bill.

“Conned by Nectar voucher offer”

I bought vouchers via the Nectar card scheme for Cafe Rouge. I used a couple a few weeks ago and all was fine. Yet when I went to pay with them at the Basingstoke branch this Wednesday they flatly refused to accept them as my friend and I had had the set lunch. The voucher does not state any exceptions.I have since contacted Nectar who say that categorically they should have accepted the vouchers. Not only would they not accept the vouchers but they were very rude about it as well. While the food and service is not bad I wouldn't bother with them. It is also a worry that when you try to contact them on the number on their main website that the phone switches to a recorded message saying that the person is out. When I tried to contact them via the main number on their Tragus company website thatis not available either - seems a bit suspicious to me......

I am a regular visitor to the Cafe Rouge Ruislip and always book the same table. I like the friendly atmosphere and the staff are all very efficient, friendly and helpful. Yesterday, May 5th, our waiter Valon looked after us very well, and we were happy with the service.

“Worthless Offers”

Last evening I took my wife for dinner at our local Café Rouge because they'd e-mailed me a '25% off food' special offer. First we wait for ages for service.....then we're told that the 25% off offer doesn't apply to their set menus (NB. not specials, these are their normal printed table d'hote menus). Then when my wife cleverly produces a TESCOCARD £10 voucher, we're told that this doesn't apply to the set menus either.... So do these people really want our business? Clearly not.

Cant you read the Terms & Conditions? They very clearly state the discount offers aren't applicable to Set Menus which are also exempt from the Tesco Clubcard deals.

“Mostly good but too variable”

I have had some very good meals here and experienced some excellent service, especially at the Canary Wharf and Covent Garden restaurants. The menu is changed periodically although it can be disappointing when a dish you have enjoyed is no longer offered. However, at the Leicester Square Restaurant, one of the waiters was clearly put out when I asked for another table (of which there were plenty) and so I promptly left (for the Covent Garden branch). Another issue was with the Gourmet Society Discount Card. Firstly, it was accepted for lunch and dinner, then only for dinner, then back to lunch and dinner and now not at all. With a large chain, part of their success should be that it is a safe bet and you know what to expect but with Cafe Rouge, the inconsistencies tend to mar what could otherwise be an excellent dining experience.

“Appalling food, surly service”

Service at Dulwich branch throughout was ill-mannered and surly. Main course of chicken and bacobn salad was inedible - chicken very over-cooked & tasted like rubber.When I sent it back service went from rude to downright hostile. Will never eat there again!

“Not even worth a star!”

Worse experience ever at Cafe Rouge O2 Arena. First arrived and asked if they had highchairs for my 2 years and 9 months old - the reply was a simple yes and we were left to go and get them ourselves. We ordered the food and after 20mn, we had to ask when it would arrive. We were told that it was coming. Another 15mn wait and still nothing - despite the restaurant being half empty! Then, to top it off, a couple just turned up and asked to have a bottle warmed up for what looked like a 3 years old and that was done IMMEDIATELY. Finally, after another 15 mn, we asked again where our order was and got given the same old answer - it is coming..... Then, as a final straw - people was arrived a good 20mn after us, got their food served! We asked the waiter what was happening and the anwswer was - you guessed it - it is coming!! We just decided to walk out as understandably, the children were extremenly upset and hungry by that stage. SO PLEASE DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY - GO AND ENJOY A LOVELY MEAL ELSEWHERE, AS CAFE ROUGE DOESNT EVEN REFLECT ON THE FRENCH FOOD AND ATMOSPHERE - I should know as I am french myself.
