“I was delighted to find a couple of items in the Karen...”

I was delighted to find a couple of items in the Karen Millen store that looked very well made and suitable for work. I do not normally shop in Karen Millen as there is not one close by, so it was a treat to wander around their store, especially as the sales were on. The assistant was very helpful in providing advice. As I tried on a skirt, I noticed a tear in the stitching of the lining. Unfortunately there was not another one in the store, so I asked for a discount. The manager was happy to oblige with a 10% reduction on that one skirt. I paid for two items and left the store.

A couple of days later I put on the "damaged" skirt, and found that it did not fall very well as I walked and moved around. Luckily, the tags were still intact. I searched the internet to find the nearest store. At first the store assistants were happy to let me exchange, but as they examined my receipt, they wanted me to explain the discount. I told them about the lining in the skirt.

I was then informed that by accepting a discount on an item, it becomes non returnable. Apparently this policy, along with their returns policy, should have been explained to me at the point of sale, and the receipt should have been marked to show that this had been done. So, even though there is no such marking on my receipt, the Karen Millen store will not help me. There is nothing they can do to help me. They would be reprimanded by Head Office if they tried. Their words not mine. It is simply against their policy. The original store will not do anything to help me either, and I have been told to take this matter up with the Karen Millen Head Office.

The most frustrating thing is that IF I had been told when I asked for the discount the conditions attached - that by accepting the discount the item then becomes non returnable full stop - I would have not parted with my cash.

Judging by the other reviews I am more than a little disheartened, and wish that I had found these reviews before even setting foot into a Karen Millen store.

I will not be spending any more of my cash with Karen Millen, and will certainly share this experience with my friends.

I have bought many items from Karen Millen and always have problems with exchanges and faulty goods, they only want to repair never exchange for new goods. This is not good, so much for keeping the customer happy.......

I bought a black work suit from Karen Millen cosing £260. I wore it for one day and it bagged on the knees and bottom and by the end of the day was full of creases. It looked so awful that by 5pm I had to go out and by another outfit as I was due to meet a client that evening.

<br>I took the suit back the following day, only to be told that it's the nature of the material and maybe I should have bought a size smaller to allow for bagging!

<br>I was not entitled to money back or an exchange and I'm currently in the process of speaking to someone in their customer service department - well I say speaking to someone but they haven't actually returned any of my calls as of yet!

<br>I have shopped in Karen Millen for a number of years and this is the first time that I have experienced anything like this. Based on this experience and their lack of flexibility I will never shop with them again!
<br>
<br>The staff are normally very friendly, but only when they have finished their private conversations, stopped admiring themselves in the changing room mirrors and only when you are looking to buy! Not so friendly when you have a complaint.

I bought a dress in Karen Millen, and the plastic strap detail broke the first night I wore it. When I took it back to the shop they wouldn't even give me an exchange, because I had worn it!!! They said they would consider trying to repair it. I took the dress back with me, and decided to complain to the head office. I called, I left messages, I sent letters and emails. I am still waiting for a reply 8 months later, and I still have a dress costing £180 that I can't wear.

I'm going to a wedding shortly and was going to buy a dress in Karen Millen. Having read such negatives reviews however I'm seriously reconsidering. Whilst I realise that sometimes the customer isn't always right Karen Millen's customer service doesn't seem to be their strongest point.

Karen Millen - I bought a dress to wear at a wedding in the Kingston store. The dress had the option of wearing it strapless or with straps, which were provided in a separate bag. When I tried the dress at the shop I really liked it but I wasn't happy wearing without the straps as the dress didn't seem to hold properly around the breast area. I asked one of the shop assistance if wearing the straps would be better (she was wearing the same dress that day with the straps) and she said it was definitely better to wear the straps. I decided to buy it and when paying for it she informed me there was a 30 day return policy. When I got home and tried the dress with the straps, it just didn't look right either around the breast area. It was flattening my breasts, not very flattering at all. I took it back to the shop expecting money refund but I was told no refunds were given, only credit notes and she pointed out I had been informed of that when I bought the dress. I explained nothing about credit notes was mentioned, only the time I had to return it. I was very angry becasue I felt the terms and condition had not been explained properly and now I have to shop again there if I want to get another outfit. Not happy at all!!!

I recently bought a jacket in a Karen Millen store (Canary Wharf). I asked if I could bring it back if it wasn't suitable (not having the right clothes on at the time). I was told this was not a problem.
However, when I did return the jacket my attention was brought to their policy on the back of the receipt stating that only credit notes and NO refunds would be given for unwanted items. Looking at my statutory rights, there should have been a notice next to the till stating this BEFORE I bought the jacket. It is, however, on the side, behind a "tray" of sunglasses and this information was not passed on. I am now lumbered with a credit note for £xxx for which, out of principle I will try and pass on as I will not shop in the store again.

I recently bought a dress from Karen Millen (The Metro centre store). The assistant was so helpful and lovely. It really makes a difference when you're spending so much money. The fitting rooms were spacious and well laid out. The clothes are gorgeous, they're really well made.

I bought a top and matching silk skirt from Karen Millen for a wedding I'm going to in two weeks, I wore the top out one night and then washed it in accordance with the instructions. I noticed when I wore it again that there was bubbling or pilling on the silk - this obviously shouldn't be happening on a new or good quality top. I brought it back to Karen Millen who have called me and told me that the problem was mine not theirs - I'd obviously done something to wear it away and that they were sending the top back. I argued to no avail that I've only worn the top twice and that it should surely be able to handle that and got nowhere - I will definitely never be purchasing anything there again as from my own experience they haven't stood over the clothing they sell.

I Love Karen Millen Clothes. I know they are expensive but the cut is beautiful. The girls in Newcastle and Metrocentre are always so helpful. I usually ask them what goes with what and they bring me things to try, its nice because some things don't look that nice on the hanger, then you try them and they look fab. I've just bought a beautiful dress from the new season stock, I must say looking round the shop I loved most things I saw this season. I have the most gorgeous red coat from the winter season I love it and look fab in it! Thanks Karen your a fab designer.

Karen Millen - The service and staff are soo bad. I bought a dress not realising the lining had torn on a beaded dress. I then took it to a friend of mine who is specialist wedding dress maker being told the lining must have cost about a pound and it was totally useless for the weight of the dress. I then took it back on Christmas Eve and was greeted by a manager in the Glasgow office who dismissed me, even though I spend thousands in Karen Millen every year. I took the dress away as she said it would have to be checked at their head office, even though I needed it for Christmas night. I called the head office, and with my auntie working in Citizens Advice and my knowledge, I made sure I was going to get the dress changed or I was going to get my best friend to write an article in one of Sotland's biggest newspapers and I would have paid anything for it, not for the sake of a dress but for they way I was treated by the shop assistants who have a degree in bad customer service.

Karen Millen - All the staff are very helpful and outgoing. They seem to make everyone feel special and welcome, almost like hostesses at a party! The clothes are fabulous and of great quality. There is a real mix of style for a broad age group. I bought an entire outfit and put it all on an account card, it was a great way to treat myself without all the guilt. I now have 5/6 months to pay it off interest free!

I spilt water down my £135 Karen Millen dress which I'd worn once and when the dry-cleaners couldn't remove the stain I returned it for a refund as this was obviously a defect in the fabric! I have been battling with the head office for a month now and trading standards have now advised me to take them to small claims court. I am applying today as I am now at the end of my tether with them. Be warned!

was it a pink dress with black butterflies by any chance? i wore my dress once and put it in the cleaners cos i have wedding but there is now a black mark at the hem which looks like the dye has run. i took it back to the shop but they say its cleaning fluid and i should take back to the cleaners which i am to do tomorrow. However if the cleaners cant get the stain out i have to take it back to the shop for them to send away for investigation and was told that they will not give me a replacement dress meantime! bad news cos i have a wedding on fri!

On some fabrics, silk especially, watermarks are almost impossible to remove once they have "dried in". Dry cleaners are useless in this situation as the staff do not have the technical knowledge of individual fabrics except whether or not they can be treated with chemicals, which are useless with stains of this kind. The stain should have been sponged immediately, the garment then allowed to dry very slowly, all the time gently working the edge of the damp area to stop a hard line forming.
<br>In extreme cases, plunging the entire garment into water & ironing dry works very well, as I did last summer with cream silk trousers stained with red wine.

Don't back down! If you have been advised that you can take them to a small claims court then do so. Karen Millen is a very big company, for them to give you a refund would have been no trouble, the item is clearly faulty. Good luck!

I purhased a top on Saturday from Karen Millen and realised it wasn't really the right size for me I (tried to) return it the following Thursday to be told 'we can only give you a credit note' - I said I hadn't been advised of this, the shop assistant herself said the staff who sold it to me should have explained this to me and written on the receipt to show they had told me... but still she gave me a poxy credit voucher... surely that's the shop's fault not mine ?? - KAREN MILLEN - maybe spend more time training staff than keeping customers' money!

The girls from the Kings Street branch in Manchester are always very helpful and friendly. So, I suppose, it varies from branch to branch. I am completely satisfied with KM customer service - but, then, I've only been to two branches.

I received a cashmere roll-neck top from my husband at Christmas. Unfortunately it was too big so, since we live over 200 miles from the nearest Karen Millen store, I called them to see if they would accept a return by mail order. It turned our that they wouldn't and that I would have to drive to Glasgow especially to return the item. That in itself was irritating but, when I asked them to keep another one aside for me until I visited the store the next day, they also refused to do that as it wasn't "policy". Would she tell me that there was one in my size in stock so that my journey wouldn't be wasted? No, she couldn't! Apparently there were quite a number of items being marked down for Sales stock so she didn't have time to go and look. One of my New Years resolutions is never to buy anything else from them - so far, I'm sticking to it!

After purchasing a faulty dress worth 120 pounds at karen millan and being told I could not have a refund only a credit note, I took this further to head office customer services as this is against the law. They were most unhelpful and refused to listen to a word I said. Not the customer service level I would expect from a designer shop!

The customer service at Karen Millen is totally shoddy. I bought a garment in the sale and the buckle would not fasten. I spoke to a sales assistant and she was extremely rude to me. I complained about the sales assistant to the head office and got the same treatment from the customer services manager!!! Consumers beware when dealing with head office!!!
