“Avoid like the plague!”

- misleading information over the phone - incapable and incompetent staff - think by offering you half the management fees they've charged you for nearly a year is OK for really poor service - Left on hold for at least 10 minutes at a time - offer you £250 to introduce someone but don't keep their promise - WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO MY WORST ENEMY!!!

Please please stop dealing with these leeches immediately. Go to the Citizens Advice tomorrow, and really get on to the road to recovery, without having to pay a ridiculous amount for nothing. Churchwoods extortionate monthly fees are only money that could be repaying your debt. Its a way of preying on people when they are at their most vulnerable. I found this out to my cost.

“No problem with churchwood finance”

★★★★★

written by Shaq78 on 10/03/2014

I have been with churchwood for about 8 months. I was very worried when I first signed up to them because I read the reviews. To be honest churchwood did exactly what they said they would. They dealt with all my debtors, and assured me that I would initially get phone calls but they would soon stop, which they did after about 6 weeks, if I got any letters I was to just forward them to churchwood and they would deal with it. I even got money back from a credit card company after they had charged me interest even though we had an agreement to freeze the interest, churchwood dealt with them quickly and efficiently. I went into this knowing exactly what the fees were that I would be paying, and it's hell of a lot less than the interest I was paying to my credit cards. So far so good and I hope to be debt free in afew years.

“I am with Churchwood Finance because I got myself in...”

★★☆☆☆

written by dutch_ing on 08/02/2014

I am with Churchwood Finance because I got myself in some deep financial difficulty so needed to have my debt consolidated. I received great service, and the employees that I dealt with were always helpful and friendly. However, Churchwood Financial are a greedy bunch.  I pay a monthly 'Management fee' of £37.50 but apparenty this was not enough and this has now gone up to £49.99 I now pay them more then I pay my creditors which is insane. The letter I received said that the changes would make no difference for me and I would not pay them any more money then I already did. LIE! I am paying them more. The Direct Debit stays the same, the monthly payment to them stays the same BUT - I am paying more 'Management fee - I am paying less money to creditors. THAT MAKES A LOT OF DIFFERENCE. And the biggest joke is that they are allowed to do this as they know how to abuse the system and how to abuse the people who are in a position where they have not really much of a choice.

“Good but bombard you with calls”

★★★☆☆

written by on 16/01/2014

I have been with Churchwood Financial for the last 8 years or so. I was in a bad position financially before I was introduced to Churchwood. I have had a few ups and downs with them but generally the service has been good. I pay a certain amount a month and receive letters once a month or so with a breakdown of what payments have been made to my creditors. My only critism is that I receive at least 2 phone calls a day from them with voicemails asking me to call them back, I simply dont have time and have no desire to speak to them as my position has not changed I am currently coming to the end of my payment plan with them and will be debt free so wish they would stop hassling me, but, I would recommend them to anyone who is struggling to pay creditors or being hounded by creditors as they do take the stress off you.

“Beware of This Company”

★☆☆☆☆

written by almoben on 19/10/2013

I had over 280 telephone calls from this company withut even making an enquiry of them. I got so angry about it that I wrote a complaint to the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority). The reply I got back was shocking. They sent me a letter asking me to report Churchwood Finance to The Office of Fair Trading and ended their letter to me with the following sentence. "Finally, I can also advise that Churchwood Finance Ltd is no longer authorised by the FCA and therefore you shouod exercise caution if dealing with them."

“Good service from Churchwood finance ”

★★★★★

written by Mandyherbo on 15/10/2013

I was surprised at some of the reviews about Churchwood finance . I was in a debt management with them for 25 months . I had no problems with them at all got regular balances and statements and have now cleared all the debts on my plan . I was in a pretty bad place before contacting this company and the relief after dealing with them was immediate. I was not hassled by phone calls as other reviews say and staff were always extremely helpful . Contacting them about my debt was the best thing I have done . I would highly recommend their services.

Maybe you were luck enough to be with them before they were dropped by The Financial Conduct Authority, when thay had to be careful about what they did in practice. For me thiscompany got my details from lord knows where and made my home life hell on earth. I had to change my e-mail address, telephone number and my mobile number because of this organisation.

“STAY AWAY FROM CHURCHWOOD!!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by alexfa1990 on 16/08/2013

My mum got in to contact with Churchwood in 2009 after struggling with £15,000 of debt with which she was only managing to pay the interest. After contacting them online, she quickly received a phone call from a man who promised all her worries could go away by agreeing to an IVA with Churchwood. He told her that after 5 years of paying £250 a month her debt would be clear and all interest wiped. My mum was told that she’d have to pay a £500 setting up fee and because she did not have this money, the man on the phone told her to charge it to a credit card which could then be added into her current debt re-payment. This should have set alarm bells ringing for her but unfortunately she was desperate and just happy to be speaking to someone so understanding and offering a solution. She has paid the full amount on time every month for nearly 4 years and was told that if this was done, the last 6 months may be wiped clear. Churchwood ring her constantly, something which I have recently read is a big problem for everyone, and today she rang them back to get a catch up with where her payments are. My mum is way too trustworthy and has been throwing statements out without much notice to what they say so she was in for a shock when she spoke to an advisor earlier today. She was told that she was actually in a Debt Management plan, not an IVA, and still had roughly 3 and a half years left to pay with an outstanding balance of £14,900! That would mean that in nearly four years only £100 had been paid off of her debts. She has letters from Churchwood stating that the interest has been frozen on most accounts so there is no way the roughly £12,000 she has already paid has only been paying off interest. Upon researching the company online, I have seen so many other complaints like this! My mum is obviously devastated as she was hoping to get a mortgage soon and was thinking she had, at most, 15 months left of paying. We’ve since found out about companies which can help with this problem for free and where all of the money goes towards your debts; I only wish she’d known about this before. My mum has yet to ring the companies she owes money to see how much of her debt has actually been paid off. I have read reviews which state that the companies never received a penny from Churchwood and ones which say the payments were late resulting in late payment fees and ultimately even more debt. I’m so devastated for my mum and cannot believe that genuine people who are in need of help can be so taken advantage of by companies like this. I’m currently looking into methods of getting the company investigated, maybe writing to the government and also getting in touch with the financial ombudsman. My mum knows she’ll probably not get a penny of her money back but cannot stand the thought of other people going through the same ordeal! Please, please, please stay away from this company!!

I have also been with Churchwood just as long and when I advised them I was moving on to Step Change who don't charge fees they would not give me any balances or help with who I still owed money too. I was hoping to have been debt free in a year as they advised when I took out the plan

Don't use these guys !

My advice to anyone who is in the same situation as your mum, would be to go along to the Local Council who have people working on this sort of thing all the time. I have known people who have gone to our local Council and a lot of their debts were wiped off by the companies voluntarily because only compounded Interest was left to pay and without leavinmg a Default on their Credit File. I know it is always a difficult thing to do but when people start to get into debt and it takes over their lives either go to your own Bank, wich might provide you with a Managed Loan to clear all debts. go to your local Council or best of all write to the people you owe money too. They are always willing to help and they do get asked by customers all the time for help. Your mum wouold only be one of many who Credit Companies hear from every day. I would certainly stay away from companies like Churchwood Finance. Lastly I would send a complaint letter to The Financial Services Ombudsman who might even be able to get a great chunk of your mother's money back for her.

“Worst Company Ever”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 04/08/2013

Please never ever deal with this company. From the beginning I was given bad advice , my debts were handled badly and my creditors were not paid on time. I was spoken to in a rude way by the " advisors ". Eventually I had to deal with the creditors myself. For this I was paying £40 a month, until I woke up, and went to the C.A.B. who promptly helped me sort out a proper repayment plan, and dealt with my creditors efficiently , all for nothing. Churchwood are basically in the same category as loan sharks , have no morals , and prey on people when they are vulnerable. Please avoid at all costs. There are much better solutions to your problems out there !

“They don't know what they are doing”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 23/05/2013

Having been with churchwood for just under a year we now fing ourself in more debt than when we started. Our creditors still hassle us, when we got told by an advise that we would have no more phone calls. We don't get monthly statement of them to say what we have paid or what the remaining balance is that we owe, we have to phone the creditors ourselves, and it keeps going up, so I say to my self I should use the £200 a month I give them and do it myself , so that is what we now do l, pay our creditors the same amount as what chruchwood did. They don't just take the first 2 instalments they also take £40 per month on top as well and they do nothing really. STAY WELL CLEAR PEOPLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am surprised to see some of the comments on here about Churchwood so I thought I would share my experience, I have been using their debt management service for several years and I have never had any problems with them. The people I speak to on the phone each month are always helpful and courteous and are not in a rush to get rid of me. I hope to be fully out of debt soon. this is my honest review of Churchwood and I hope you find it helpful.

I would like to thank to women who I spoke to on the phone recently who gave me some really sound advice, I needed some quick fixes and she spent quite a while on the phone telling me what i could do in the short term. Thanks it was really good of you to take that time. I have since started using Churchwoods services and so far everything is looking good, hopefully it continues like this and i can get back to enjoying things again, sorry to see you have some bad feedback on here, not the experience i have had.

I terminated my contract with this so called company they took my money and did not pay my creditors a penny which made me in even more debt, I was told that they would take their fee after my creditors at least got some of my money. I was assured I would get my fees back and no other money would be taken out of my account not true, I have just checked my account and they have taken money they also claim they don't have outbound email addresses they are a bunch of sharks DON'T TRUST THEM

“Total rip off's”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 19/03/2013

I signed up with Churchwood at the beginning of the year and had [name removed] dealing with everything for me, to compete with another company he offered the 2 1st payments of £80 to be paid to my creditors instead of a set up fee and also reduced there monthly payment just to get me to sign. Well 3 month later and Im no longer with them they took 2 £80 payments with in 3 days of each other leaving me with no money and took over a week to have it refunded and then when I rang to see why the creditors hadnt been paid I was told it was a set up fee Hmmmm but [name removed] said he wavered the fee to get me to sign!!!. So now going through complaints as I was lied to and made to sign under false pretences so they have stole my money in my eyes, Ive had numerous arguements on the phone with them as for some reason Im now not allowed to talk to [name removed] to confront him about it which is strange they just keep passing the buck yet he was never off the phone when he wanted money and now I want my money I cant get hold of him!!! . Ive demanded all phone conversations but no doubt the important one with proof will go missing but only time will tell. AVOID at all costs
