“I ordered RAM for my desktop computer made by Dell. I...”

written by Rick. on 17/05/2003

I ordered RAM for my desktop computer made by Dell. I called customer service and ask them to verify if I had picked out the correct memory chip. They agreed and sent me out the RAM, which took about a week. I received the RAM and my computer would not recognize it. I'm not a beginner and I certainly know how to install it. I called them and tried to get a return authorization number, but they stated I had to do this on their website. I waited over a week for this number and finally called back again. They stated that i must wait. I waited again several days and nothing happened, so I called back again and they did it over the phone.

They could have saved me a lot of time by doing it this way in teh first place. Now that I have sent back the memory, they are stating that they will charge a 20% restocking fee because they recommended the wrong memory.

Don't ever order from this company. It's not worth it!

“I ordered some flash memory which was priced right,...”

written by anykey. on 15/04/2003

I ordered some flash memory which was priced right, and SAID that it would ship in 24 hours. It is now 264 hours later, and it still hasn't shipped. I first called Ebuyer Customer Service after about 6 days, and was informed that- "Yes my item is in stock", but that it was in a "remote" warehouse. But she said that I could expect it on Monday (about 5 days).

On monday I checked the website again and it still hadn't shipped. So I called customer service. The girl at Ebuyer Customer Service said that it had just shipped, and if I went back to the website later that night, I would be able to get the tracking info. Well I checked last night and it hasn't shipped. And I checked again this morning and it still says that it hasn't shipped.

There seems to be no sense in calling Ebuyer Customer Service again, as they apparently don't have any real information, and their true sole purpose seems to be to make up excuses to cover up the company's very poor supply channel.

Ebuyer are very good on delivery... However when it comes to returns they are the worst that I have ever come across. Is it money? Oh YES!! Once sold.. Who cares? I have returned several motherboards to them and several times they have fobbed me off or just ignored me. I am still waiting after 8 weeks for a replacement motherboard. Court action I think! Will I ever shop there again NO!!!

written by cobrapete. on 25/02/2003

I purchased approx £2000-00 worth of computer parts around Dec 20th. 2 out of the 4 computer cases had smashed facias. The packaging was very thin around the corners. I went through the 'e-notes' routine and specifically advised them to increase the protection on the replacements. This was completely ignored and one of the 2 replacements was also smashed. I have since demanded a refund. It has taken from about Dec 20th until about February 20th for matters to be satisfactorily concluded and my account has now been credited for the refund. That is 8 WEEKS! This company hides behind a wall of electronic 'silence'. You cannot telephone and complain. I notice that the fax number has also been removed from their website.(I wonder why!) so that route is out as well. It is a pity that they handle their enote system to suit their own pace as the idea is a good one. Also, real-time stock levels is very attractive. It is a pity that I shall not be doing any more business with them.

Ebuyer has got to be the worst e-tailer I have ever come across. It is impossible to contact them, and their enote system is a diabolic sham. Don't buy from them - unless you want a whole load of trouble if you have to contact them for faulty goods. I will never buy from them again. Absolutely awful.

written by Nick. on 11/02/2003

I bought a amd 2000 xp processor from ebuyer. Once installed nothing worked. I had my motherboard tested by eclipse computers (from where I bought it), and they said it was ok. I have all my other components installed on a friend's pc and everything works fine. I requested a returns number from ebuyer to return the faulty processor. It took them 7 working days to send me the rma number. They then denied delivery of the processor which I sent special delivery. I had to get a copy of the delivery sheet from the post office and fax that to ebuyer to prove delivery. They received this package on 13/01/03 but have only today 11/02/03 that the processor is faulty and that they will refund my credit card. The so called customer support line is just a recorded message, there is no one there to take your call. The call will cost you 7.9p per minute which is split 50/50 between ebuyer and bt. They are profiting from your misery of trying to get some answers. NEVER NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY ANYTHING FROM EBUYER. BEWARE, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

written by iain.Smithi. on 07/02/2003

I purchased a router from Ebuyer in 2002, the item became faulty during the warranty period and I was asked to return it to Ebuyer. So far so good. Their return process is time consuming, because you cannot ask their customer service department to raise one. The item was returned in Nov 2002, I received a note to it was being returned to the manufacturer for repair/replacement, in Dec 2002. I did not have any more communication from the company. I contacted them on 16/1/03 to find when the item will be returned, (again hindered by their enote system) i was informed that they would look into it. I contacted them again by phone and was told sorry we'll get another one out to you. After waiting a week, I faxed them threatening them with legal action; I was told I'd get one within 24-48 hrs. Great I thought. The item that arrived was a ADSL Modem. i contacted Ebuyer and was informed after a long conversation, that I had two options: Drive a round trip of approx. 100 miles at my own expense or they would pick up the item after the weekend check it and get one out later, but with no ETA. Their underlying opinion at Ebuyer throughout this conversation was that they could not accept that they were at fault. They could not trust a customer to realise that the item was incorrect, because 'they must protect themselves from people trying to defraud them.' The implication being that this is what I wished to do. Upon asking for compensation for the long waits and poor service, i was informed that Ebuyer has already verbally apologised. After agreeing to get the item picked up, I then received an email saying my password to my Ebuyer account had been changed. At the moment I'm trying to find out why. To conclude great on prices, and after 3 months of waiting still waiting for a router. A company to avoid or if you buy from them and the item turns out to be faulty chuck it in the bin, it will be easier then a refund/replacement.

written by david betts. on 01/02/2003

I purchased a AMD 2100+ Processor from Ebuyer. The processor I ordered on 24th January 2003 (order#739996) Arrived okay. I was really looking forward to upgrading my Compaq computer to a AMD Athlon 2100+ processor. When I installed the processor correctly I found that my computer wouldn't start and when it did (for about 2 minutes) it crashed and kept rebooting. The processor completely messed up my computer. It even only lasted 2 minutes even with my old processor back in it. I've had to take my computer in to have a new motherboard installed and a new power supply unit installed which has cost me A lot of cash! I then filled in a returns note on ebuyer and was allocated a RMA number (REF71529) on the 25th January. I sent the processor back in all the original packaging with everything I got with it. A couple of days later I received an email saying that my Returns request had been turned down as the processor I sent back was damaged and because of this I cannot have a refund!. The processor never worked in the first place and it was sent back in the exact condition I received it in! I managed to get through to ebuyer (after waiting 1 hr on the phone!) I spoke to a person who wouldn't give me his name!. I asked to speak to a manager about my problem and was told that he was the highest one there! He told me to get in contact with Royal Mail as I sent it back 1st class registered post and take it up with them about damaging the product! The customer service is the worst I've ever come across, and that's if you ever get hold of anyone! Ebuyer are now sending the product back to me and charging me £5.15 delivery charge which there taking off my switch card! (aren't they supposed to ask or inform me of this?) I'm now at a loose end about what I should do now?

I have ordered components before without a problem but I was sent a DOA product and Ebuyer are refusing to replace or refund. They do not answer emails and their enote service is just online bullying. I would strongly recommend you avoid this "don't care" company, they are a rip-off and aren't interested in their customers once they've been paid.

I couldn't agree more. I've lost count the amount of times people who`ve had a few orders with ebuyer that go to completion fine and they get at me for my website.
I keep telling them sooner or later they`ll get burned but they continue to shop with ebuyer because they see something cheap. Ebuyer couldn't care less about their customers. The practises going on inside that company are downright illegal half the time.
My advice is ask Sheffield trading standards to sort out your complaint for you, they have enough dealings with ebuyer. The address is....

[email protected]
Also take a look at my website "ebuyerdotcon" and drop me a line with your full story, which I'll add to January's complaints page.

written by Bryn. on 18/12/2002

Earlier this year, I bought a complete set of parts for a new PC which was built by a friend. The problems started when the warex remote mouse stopped working. Using another mouse, I logged onto my account, contacted Ebuyer and asked for a returns authorisation (REM number). That was on the 3rd Dec. As of 9.30 on the 18th December, that REM request is still "awaiting action". This is despite me sending an E note asking for action on the 12th December. This e note is still "awaiting processing". Trying to get through to ebuyer is unlike any experience that I have ever had before. Definitely bottom of my list of shopping sites.

I read your review with interest Bryn. I had a nightmare of a time myself in September getting in contact with ebuyer. After 4 weeks of playing enote tennis with them and spending £20 in phone calls to their non-existent customer support line. I resulted in contacting trading standards. I suggest you do the same.
The way they treated me, left me nearly £100 down. Visit "Ebuyerdotcon" and have a look at some other issues.
Take a look, and drop me a line telling me what you think.

written by kellcom. on 18/11/2002

If what you order arrives intact, works ok, and IS actually what you ordered then great!! you have successfully completed a satisfactory transaction with ebuyer, probably achieving a good saving on what other dealers can offer. If not then be afraid, be very afraid. I've been ordering goods from ebuyer for about 6 months up till recently I had no problems. However, over 8 weeks ago they received back from me a defective ARTEC CD-Writer. It took them over 2 weeks to even look at the thing and (in what must have taken all of 5 seconds) decided to send it back to the manufacturer for repair/replacement. I had already told them I needed the drive back asap so if they couldn't return one quickly then I wanted a full refund (so I could buy another). Since that would have involved a degree of thoughtfulness this request was completely ignored. The last communication I got from them about this stated that this return could take up to 28 days. We are on 6 weeks and counting. Still No writer, no refund and no news. I have raised e-notes, they are never answered. I have posted letters, they are ignored. The only other option is to pay out even more on a premium rate phone number that only guarantees you more expense and a very long wait. To top things off nicely, in my last order they sent me the wrong item. I ordered an Inno3d GF4 MX440 64mb DDR Graphics card, they sent me a Inno3d MX420 64mb SDR ram card, both inferior and cheaper to the one I ordered. I have of cource been billed and paid for the more expensive model. As I paid the extra for next day delivery on this item that money has now been wasted as well, as will be the extra for having to post this back to them. However, I am getting ahead of myself, you see, even though I requested this return last Thursday it has STILL not gotten approval. On Friday I was told that It has apparently been referred to management for 'special approval' and I can expect some news within 48 hours. Well, still no news, and I am not overly optimistic of getting any in short order either. Having had enough of this I have contacted the trading standards in sheffield about them, and I suggest anyone having problems with ebuyer do the same (just go to the trading standards web-site, find the sheffield dept. and post your complaint). They have already told me that it is ILLEGAL for ebuyer to make the customer pay postage for returns on faulty and incorrect items and they have actioned my complaint so hopefully I will finally get some result out of this.

Ebuyer are the worst company/supplier/retailer I have ever dealt with. It took me 4 months to replace faulty items, which are yet again faulty! Trying to contact Ebuyer is like trying to speak to the Pope, you have absoultely no chance! If you email them they ignore you, if you user their website they ignore you. Sending them a recorded delivery letter is the only way of getting a response. For what it's worth, they actually telephone me once and they where incredibly rude. Apparrantly, I was one of 2000 complaints the chap was dealing with so I should count myself lucky. They've told me if I return my goods with an RMA number (which they have yet to supply), they will send the goods straigth back to me, and charge the cost to my credit card, charming. Ebuyer was definitely the WRONG decision.

He seems overly familiar with their procedures(mmm??) If he is connected with ebuyer then his time would be better suited answering their phones and not trying to cancel out peoples reviews. We are reasonable and do not expect ebuyer to be cheap and perfect but we do expect a level of service above that of del trotter!

Yes i agree that eBuyer is rubbish. I have been dealing with them for a while now and have had nothing but negative experiences. I am currently RMA ing a GF2 MX that i sent in months ago. They are now saying that they have given me a refund but my bank statement says otherwise. At the same time I ordered x2 CDRW's and after saying that they were in the post they mysteriously disappeared from my invoice and i got what i think is a refund a few days later - not a word from them about this. I could go on but the list is too long i.e. broken routers, keyboards, cases, another GF2 mx of same batch etc. I get deterred from the RMA process due to the hassle.
I could really do without the hassle of going to a small claims court but i certainly will if i don't get my money back.

I would like to reply to Pat Wheeler
I have nothing at all to do with e-buyer I may be familiar with their procedures because I actually take the time to read their website. I am not the only one who has good things to say about e-buyer although maybe I am the only one who will put comments on other readers reviews.
Most of their procedures are standard with online shopping. Everyone is allowed to their own views of a company, the reason I put comments on some peoples reviews, is that what they actually complain about is somtimes their own fault, take one case where someone was going to take them to court because they had faulty hardware and e-buyer had not picked it up, well it does say on their website that it has to be posted back to them.
I put these comments on other reader reviews so that anyone else reading them gets not just the reviewers problems but also someone who is happy using the company and will continue to use it. If you read the reviews you will see that.
I grant you that from what i've read about their phone service it could be a lot better. I have only contacted them twice by phone and the 1st time I waited 10 minutes the 2nd was about 20 minutes what does amaze me is the amount of people that has delivery trouble. I have ordered from them at least 10 times in the last year and apart from the 1st time when I used next day delivery, I have ordered everything on 3 day delivery and I must say that I have received everything with in that time limit. In fact it's all been delivered the next working day.

Then I received an email to say it's not actually in stock (even though the website said it was!) so cancelled, and ordered a different one on the 22nd October. The transaction went through ok, they debited my credit card, and that was that, or so I thought. Its now 5th November and my goods are still 'awaiting despatch' Two 40 minute phone calls to customer support have resulted in me being told there was no reason why the goods hadn't been despatched, and they'd be sent out next day. IM STILL WAITING!! Their eNote system is next to useless. An automated reply said it was be delivered 'next day/in 3 days' - take your pick! The next eNote hasn't been replied to - 3 working days later! DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM EBUYER - THEY ARE HOPELESS - THEY HAVE MY MONEY AND I HAVE NO GOODS!!!!

I placed around 5 orders with ebuyer early last year and everytime they completely screwed up. Anything from completely different goods to those ordered down to completely trashed items.
Customer service doesn't even exist in their eyes and it takes forever to get a return processed not to mention they make you pay to return the goods they sent out wrong which is actually illegal and goes against the distance selling regulations!

After the 5th and final bad purchase from them I found www.sense-computers.com - they sell the same sort of stuff at comparable prices BUT the main difference is that you get what you ordered and on time! On one occaison the DVD player I purchased was faulty and they arranged collection from my work the next day (at their expense) and I had a replacement sent 2 days later which worked perfectly - EBUYER TAKE NOTE - THATS CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

Ebuyer.com is simply awful. If you order a product from them, they actually have it in stock, it gets shipped to you and works YOU HAVE BEEN VERY VERY LUCKY.

If on the other hand an item does not work, is sent wrongly, or you wish to return it for any reason you will really struggle to contact this comapny and if you do you will never get a reasonable response. Asking to talk to management is always a no no. Asking for an address to write to is never given either. This company does not care one iota about customers needs. Once they have your money you can simply forget it.

I decided enough was enough and so I decided to act. So last weekend I trawled the internet and got a huge bundle of customer horror stories from ebuyer.com and put up a website to highlight the issue (see my recomended site).
They might have "value for money" but they have NO CUSTOMER SUPPORT whatsoever. I wouldn`t wish anyone to have to put up with the garbage this company has made me go through. My opinion on them can be seen on my website.

“On the whole I would recommend avoiding this company....”

On the whole I would recommend avoiding this company. If your goods arrive fault-free, then fine, you've been lucky. If, as in my case, they are defective, then you're in for a nightmare. Ebuyer prefers all correspondence to be done by email using their "enotes" system. This would be fine if anyone at their end actually bothered responding to your notes. Unfortunately this is not the case. I was sent a faulty monitor and contacted Ebuyer by "enote" and by phone (after half an hour of waiting) on the same day. After telling me initially that they would not replace it all and that I should contact the manufacturer for a repair, they eventually agreed to collect, and did so. Two weeks later, despite begging them for at least some information, I have heard nothing by any medium. The wait goes on. Avoid this company if you want any customer service.

Hi - I've also placed an order with ebuyer.com, and have received a faulty hard drive. They have not responded to my emails yet, after just under two weeks of trying. I am therefore sending them a letter through the post giving them a written warning of 5 days to collect the hard drive and replace it. Throughout this 5 day period I will be contacting them on a daily basis with the same email. If, after 5 days, the faulty hard drive is still with me, another letter will be sent to them with another 24 hours of receipt of the letter for a replacement, or else I will be informing the small claims court and customer service.

Yeah, well done, Scotsman... I do realise that. I'm not going to purchase an item without reading all policies first, am I? The fact is that I contacted Ebuyer through RMA AND through "E-Notes", several times, over a week's period - and none of these times did I get any response what-so-ever. However, finally, after 9 days, I finally had an answer, and just to let you know, they sent me a new hard drive. I did, however, have to spend a further fiver sending the disk back to them. But now everything's sorted, at long last, there's no cause for concern. It's nice to see some defence on their behalf though - do you work for them? The products are absolutely brilliant, that's the truth, and their prices are amazing - however no one can deny that their level customer service has a lot of room for improvement - especially the phone lines.

Barney have you read e-buyers return policy???? you have to raise a RMA and send the faulty hard drive back they don't pick it up so sending them warning letters etc will do you no good as they have their returns polocy printed use a bit of common sense for goodness sake read their policies before making threats that won't stand up in court.

“Stock : The stock levels shown on the eBuyer website...”

written by BeerMonster. on 25/09/2002

Stock : The stock levels shown on the eBuyer website reflect reality as much as I can perform Swan Lake
Delivery : Very Slow. Order may turn in several pieces, over several days
Credit Card : They debit your card, wether they are going to ship or not. And try and get a refund!!!!
Packing : They don't seem to understand that computer parts are fragile, especially disk drives. I have recieved several drives which are just shoved in the bottom of the box, with no padding. Many other things have been damaged..
Customer support : Use the e-note system if you want to be ignored.... Use their customer support line if you like spending 40 minutes on hold. They answer, and then you get cut off.
Frustratin : If you like getting stressed, but from them. If not, avoid them like the plague

I also have had the same trouble with regards to there hard drives. I have bought 2x60gig IBM hard drives, both of which have now been changed 3 times. Both of which turned up in the bottom of a box with no packaging I also could not use their enotes because without hard drives you can't do much and found I was on the phone for about 1hr their comment to this was I should use enotes

“eBuyer has a rubbish returns process - I was told to...”

eBuyer has a rubbish returns process - I was told to wait for an email with instructions to arrive within 24 hours and it came 8 days later. Takes days for replies to emails. eNotes - rubbish. Don't bother phoning - only verbal help for website. RUUUBBBIISSH!! Don't go near them. Good prices but what if you get the wrong product? Last time I checked, a GeForce4 isn't an ATI Radeon. Apparently eBuyer have heard different.

“Every time I've had reason to contact Ebuyer I've been...”

★★☆☆☆

written by Oni. on 29/08/2002

Every time I've had reason to contact Ebuyer I've been disappointed.

The first time was when I realised a day or two after buying my Logitech speakers that they were faulty; sound was patchy, sometimes would cut off from one speaker completely, and the plugs were extremely loose. The number on their website for customer service enquiries is a joke. It took me a week to get through. I got an RMA number and sent off the entire box as requested, which cost me a massive £18, of which they would only refund me £5 (and that took another week to get through to them about). To top off the aggravating long wait, they sent me back my original speaks and sub, i.e. didn't fix anything. And it cost me a lot of time, money, and aggravation.

Just recently, I opened an "E-note" to point out a problem I was having with ordering. It was summarily closed by the person investigating, who's suggested solution I had already tried and mentioned; she just hadn't even bothered to read the short paragraph through properly. I resent the problem, and another "customer service" representative managed to completely skip over every sentence in the note that mattered. She too offered a solution I had already tried and mentioned. So AGAIN I posted an e-Note, with very short sentences, explaining the problem. It's been closed by the same representative with no reason given; obviously she can't be bothered to actually fix my problem. Someone needs to explain to Ebuyer the meaning of customer service. The Ebuyer policy seems to be to get queries closed as soon as possible, independent of whether the query is actually dealt with in an appropriate manner. My problem is still unresolved, and the respect I had once for the company (before I touched any customer service they pretended to have) has hit rock bottom. I would go somewhere else even if it cost me £20 extra, believe me, but I'm looking for a specific item which I have only been able to find at E-buyer thus far. The case I'm ordering is likely to be 2 weeks late; arrive broken; and cost £20 to send back only to have it sent back in broken state.

Ebuyer is good IF you get delivery on time (not likely). IF you don't have to contact their customer service (but then in my opinion, if you do, it's already too late). Buy dabs, search around for other suppliers please. Ebuyer is definitely last choice.

I have had exactly the same problems with defective equipment damaging my computer. If you can get through then the people in returns etc are helpful, but it takes days every time. Not a good experience and I would never recommend them
