“Worst ever see”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Marvin9 on 08/02/2018

have never seen even a high school musical that was this bad , even a middle school musical this bad ! Scenery pitiful , sound, direction, voices horrible ! Even probably the most important part the dancers were horrid and there definitely were enough , what is there to say lame lame lame ! Only good part of the whole show was the last scene which was actually uplifting , which are what is needed because the rest of it was so horrid , sorry I wasted my money ! PS what was the Martin Luther King thing ? I'm all for Martin Luther King but in the middle of this play, what was that about ! Lame lame lame !

“What's with the extra scenes?”

★★★☆☆

written by Tianat162 on 22/04/2017

I enjoyed the dancing and the costumes and how similar it was to the original movie. However, the extra scene with the MLK references and the freedom marches and all of that REALLY threw it off for me. It took me completely out of the moment and just made me confused wondering if I had forgotten this huge chunk of the movie. It just didn't fit. It feels like some kind of political message was being shoved down by throat, and while I like a political point as much as the next person, this wasn't the time or place. It was a distraction more than anything. And some of the acting was corny and unbelievable. The young lady who sang most of the songs was AMAZING.

“Very Disappointed”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 26/03/2017

We was extremely disappointed with this sad depiction of the original movie! It was very lame and the digital field and water scenes were laughable, but not in a good way! The stage settings were almost non-existent and unmemorable! The only good thing about being there was seeing the beautiful Fox Theatre again! Can't say anything good about this Play! We left at intermission and felt that buying those tickets was a waste of good money!

If you liked the film you will like the play. Great live dancing by everyone. More good songs. I left wanting to dance like they did but alas I never could:-)

“Blah, Disjointed, Rushed, dragged, not funny, ”

★★☆☆☆

written by 258Schwartz on 22/04/2016

I rarely go to plays/musicals, but when I do, I always enjoy them. This time, to my dismay, while it had its moments, it is was not worth the price and nothing really worth going to. I thought the dancing was great and the acting was pretty good. No clue why they digressed into Freedom Marches of the South, MLK, and all that stuff (which was not in the movie). It was like they just threw that in here after-the-fact and all it did was add the W T F was that all about moments. These W T F moments were plenty and did not help with the flow and continuity of anything - anything but actually. Kudos to the main actors as I think is more of a writer/director issue. I don't recommend it unless you have money to burn and are completely bored.

“Not As Entertaining As The Movie”

★★★☆☆

written by on 05/07/2015

I agree with most of the other reviews, too many unnecessary political remarks and foul language. The set looked incomplete. The acting was sub-par. The music was great, but expected more from a "musical", especially from the 60's,70's and 80's era.

“When did they rewrite it?”

★★★☆☆

written by Nonnie1 on 15/06/2015

Just finished seeing Dirty Dancing the Musical in Indy. "When did they re-write the story?" Saw it several years ago in Chicago and it stayed pretty true to the original movie and was pretty good. This version added a whole section on the Civil Rights movement, several unnecessary scenes with Penny and Doctor/Mrs. Houseman and a scene with the staff thinking about jumping in the pool at Kellerman's but Johnny stops them, I thought it was that they re-wrote the "Fight Harder" scene but that took place a little later. None of these extra scenes added to the story, they just made the story stall. They restaged the show from when I had seen it before. Now it has all this video which worked in some settings but was totally cheesy in other settings was disappointing/distracting. And the scene in the car with Baby changing after the number at the Shelldrake very lame. Dancing was good but not great and there didn't seem to be any chemistry between the actors playing Johnny and Baby.

“sad what was done in live theater version”

★★☆☆☆

written by Joyv392 on 14/06/2015

A few positives were sister Lisa. She was better than movie version. Baby and Penny pretty good. Soloist for "in the still of the night" good. But added civil rights scenes given more emphasis than actual story from movie. Totally unnecessary. Didn't go to see musical version of Selma. Mom told about Penny's abortion!? Couldn't come up with a car? Really! The car scene drew laughter from audience. Rushed through scene after scene due to unnecessary added content. Dad came off as mean. Johnny not reminiscent of original. Not tpugh and strong but also sensitive. Came off flat and unmemorable. Swayze co wrote and sang #1 hit song "She's Like the Wind" back in the day and just used as background music during scenes...so sad. But just had to devote so much time to added political issues that were given a few lines in the movie.

“Inconsistent”

★★☆☆☆

written by Jfergieferg on 24/05/2015

Baby, Penny and fee others were great. Johnny was absolutely awful. Could have put a high schooler in his place. Baby's dad was almost as bad. Blew the biggest line in the play. Set was boring snd scenes felt disjointed. The 2 soloists are very very good. Added extra political bs that was completely wasteful.

“Great adaptation of movie!”

★★★★★

written by on 24/04/2015

I saw Dirty Dancing in Providence with 5 friends and we all LOVED the show! Everyone in the audience seemed to really enjoy it. Don't know what others expected, but I felt it was a great adaptation of the movie, which I have watched ?about 50 times! The cast was given a huge standing ovation at the end. We were upset before seeing the show because of the bad reviews, but thought it was great!

“Uninspiring”

★★☆☆☆

written by MadeleineRiley on 11/04/2015

I saw this last night in Pittsburgh. I wish I hadn't. The acting was terrible. Johnny garbled his words and came across as a thug which made him unlikeable. The entire production felt stiff and uninspiring. The dancing was mechanical and repetitious which disappointed me the most. I could not wait for the show to end.

I agree completely! I also saw the show in Pittsburgh, and was disappointed on the lack of emotion and energy from the main characters. Some of the greatest scenes in the movie received no emotion and enthusiasm from the actors playing Baby and Johnny! The actor playing Johnny had the same monotone voice throughout the entire show.
Also, the added scenes in the play completely ruined the performance as well. The play was 2 hours long, so I think they could have stuck to the movie which is also 2 hours. Very disappointing!

“Painful to watch.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by BrentCahill255 on 10/04/2015

No wonder this never opened on Broadway. This script, direction, and even the dance numbers appeared to be written for a high school musical. The water scene that never even gets Baby's hair wet, Scene after scene where the characters are on and off the stage after two sentences,. This production was so choppy that it became comedic. Groan able moments in the bedroom scenes, no chemistry at all between the characters. It seems they had a check list, Intimate scenes..check Profanity..check Social conscience moments..check Sadly this list did not include well written, well directed. I stayed for the second act hoping for at least one scene that justified the price of my ticket, no such luck. Total waste of the talent. Rerent the movie.

“Disjointed and uneven”

★★★☆☆

written by FirstSarnt on 16/01/2015

I found the stage presentation to be disjointed and uneven. It seemed to stumble from scene to scene, with no continuity except the major characters. Some humorous moments and very sensual dancers, though major dance scenes were few and far between. Other than the standout song (Time of My Life), the only other music of note was the outstanding soloist doing "In The Still Of The Night". I am also annoyed by plot holes and dramatic contrivances, such as when Dr. Houseman attends to Penny and Johnny ends up being held responsible even though a quick explanation would clear the air. I know how the story was supposed to progress, but that contrivance was unnecessary. I can't help but compare it to other recent plays I've seen, namely Jersey Boys and Cinderella. Both move quickly and continuously, with little lag, nuch to see, and outstanding music throughout. This was a disappointing experience for me, especially as a season tcket holder who had traded shows to get this one. I wish I had talked to people who had seen it on stage, though most people aren't as picky as I am.

“Politically Correct Nonsense”

★★☆☆☆

written by Blakepf122 on 04/01/2015

I saw the musical in Atlanta, GA and the producers/directors interjected into the musical a scene of freedom riders (struggling for racial equality) and a recording of a Martin Luther King speech. The bleeding heart liberals can't leave well enough alone. There is no need to to make a political statement and distract from the solid story of the film. The movie was well done. The musical play was not.

“dont waste your time”

★☆☆☆☆

written by summerluvin on 29/12/2014

I was so excited to see this show and wow what a let down!! The acting is terrible there was zero chemisty between baby and johnny. My fiance and I were laughing at how bad it was and almost left at intermission. I have been to high school plays that were better than this and the set was a joke! The music is good but that is about it, stay home and rent the movie you will enjoy it more.

“Very disappointed. Don't waste your money!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by solrays on 16/12/2014

I'm a dance instructor myself and in my studio we always reference the movie. In fact we love it. Went to Jax FL to see the live performance and was completely let down. The acting was terrible. No emotion whatsoever. The coreography was absolutely laughable and the set design was unbelievably boring, bland and severely undeveloped. We were completely let down by this production. I've seen better performances at our local high school theatre. I was extremely surprised that all of the actors were horrible. Usually a few do a good job, but not in this case. If I could ask for a refund, I would. I hope someone steps in to fix this!!! This could be a hit, but not like this!

“I just saw Dirty Dancing in Atlanta last Sat. It was...”

★★★★★

written by nxSmith1988 on 07/12/2014

I just saw Dirty Dancing in Atlanta last Sat. It was absolutely wonderful. Just like the movie. I really didn't care for the freedom riders part. But everything else was great. Only WISH that she could have made a guest appearence. Was really surprised how the audience reacted when Johnny said "Nobody puts Baby in a Corner". Naturally I cried at the part when he came back and they danced "the Time of my Life". GREAT--GREAT---

“Unnecessary and offensive language”

★☆☆☆☆

written by JosieCullen234 on 03/12/2014

I am very fond of the movie and decided to end Thanksgiving with my husband and I going. Within the first few minutes language that I find offensive was used and ruined the remainder of the show. There were also several scenes followimg that it happened also. I don't see that it adds anything and could have been left out and had a much better affect. If insist on using such language, please keep in mind there are still some that find it offensive so maybe have a censored version. I hate I wasted money for only 5 to 10 minutes worth watching! It would be more upsetting to know that it was only offensive to my husband and I.

“RSD travel - trail of Alexander the Great - coach holiday”

★★☆☆☆

written by jwMcLeod192 on 12/11/2014

I was attracted to the 7 day holiday by the low price and my interest in Archaeology. I wish I had looked on TripAdvisor before booking. Of course if you enjoy a holiday then it naturally becomes good value, but this holiday starting at about 250 pounds each ended up more like double that, and whats more it was a terrible holiday. The first problem was the flight time which meant we arrived in Antalya airport for about 3am. We had to get to the hotel, have some sleep and then be breakfasted and ready to leave at 7.15 the next (same) morning. We were all like zombies for the first day. Then the 'optional' packages. We had decided to buy the culture and dinner package - that seemed sensible at 110 GBP, but we didn't want the additional explorer package at 85GBP. Well our guide made it pretty clear that he wouldn't be happy if some of us didn't buy both packages, so not wanting to rock the boat we were a cool 390 GBP down on day one. If you like coach holidays then this one may be for you but be warned - you will have to be up 6am pretty well every day in order to have breakfast and get out for a grueling coach journey. Imagine your traditional beach hotel holiday, but getting up everyday when its still dark to be on the bus in time - every day. Well this is worse as you have to change hotel everyday. And don't forget all the stops at roadside cafes (selling opportunities) and the usual carpet/jewellery/pottery etc etc. A word on the carpet warehouse. Quite an entertaining presentation from the head salesman, but then I've never seen so many salesman descend on you - one of one selling like timeshare sales. Help - were's the door! salesman following you to the toilet aargh! When we got to the jewellery visit, I explained to our guide that we didn't want to go in. He wasn't happy and told us he would get into trouble if we didn't all go in. Okay, no choice. Then there was the leather shop - aargh - let me out! We didn't take to the guide. His delivery was very robotic - I don't think he was that interested. I didb't even enjoy the trips to the heritage sites because of his droning voice, and the feeling that we were just being herded through. To be fair, hotels were very good, but somewhat uninteresting, sort of business type places. Meals on first night were interesting, but by the last night became so repetitive. Lovely soup, nice standard salad, but very poor main courses. Last night we gave the 'cultural evening' a swerve, even though we had paid for it, and went out for a Pizza and a beer. Pizza never tasted so good! Last day we had to pay another 16GBP each to go to a waterfall for a walk and then have lunch, instead of going straight to the airport. Waterfall was nice but so what. Lunch was terrible - I could have done the dead parrot sketch with my 'grilled' trout. Inedible. Would have been just as happy having a lie in, late breakfast and then go to the airport. But no choice. If you enjoy coach holidays then this is probably a 'cheap' way of seeing so many of the heritage sights around Antalya etc, but it was really hard work, with very little relaxation time due to very full days on the coach. No - not for me. And being herded from place to place - no not for me. Sadly, I came away with a poor view of the Turkish. I couldn't help feeling that they were looking for every possible chance to extract a few extra quid out of us. Pricing things in Euros instead of Turkish Lira just seems to be a way of having prices for tourists and then different prices for Turks. And they make there own exchange rate up when converting. Tip boxes everywhere, but ironically they never give you any change so you struggle to have coins to tip anyway. I saw one toilet charging 1 euro - not surprisingly the attendant waved though a local Turkish girl without her paying. Terrible. I could go on. Shame really. The very trip that could entice you to visit Turkey again, just ends up putting you off. Its all in the itinerary, but its hard to imagine how difficult it would really be. It is supposed to be a holiday after all. Visited November 2014
