thank you to everyone writing in a review; I was really happy to find the cheap rates that Nemo offered; but now I will steer well clear of them due to the sorry experiences that other people have suffered through them.

25,000 consolisation loan, no fees not like freedom who wanted to charge over 2,000 for finding a nemo loan when u can do it yourself on line.all details sent in post with time to consider, second papers sent out needing witness, all parties on application contacted and talked through details of loan to be sure of payments etc. 25,000 over 10years £292 a month at 7.4% interest much cheaper than credit card interest and excisting loan so pleased with outcome.liked the clear paper work and list of questions, also clear about charges and early repayments etc. lots of negative feedback made me doubtful at first and the variable rate but after talking it through with advisor and having it in writing i was very clear about what i signed up for, negative reviews tend to be if people had trouble paying back loan but at the end of the day its a business lending money.....

no-one can really recomend a loan for someone else as all circumstances are so different, the only advice i have is to see what all available laons are to you and then take into account intersest rate, term of loan, penalties etc and with all the info make the best judgmnt which suits your needs thinking about repayment amount and your job security etc as these loan companys are all in the business of making money whatever company you use. just be informed and do plenty of checks before making a desision..read the small print as this trips people up when things go wrong and then they blame the company, only my opinion not advising you to take a loan as i say no one can do that....

rate has always stayed the same, would not be good business to put up rates especially as bank rate is so low all customers would go elswhere and financial services would investigate if not justifiable. (this is what the advisor told me when i asked when applying)

“Never go to Nemo”

written by Linda1212 on 16/02/2013

We took a 20grand loan out with Nemo in 2007, paying them back 250 each month. In 2012 the PPI claims surfaced so we decided to claim ours back after getting charged it on our loan after 9 long months we were successfully and the full amount less simple interest was credited to our Nemo account, so after 5 years worth off payments and 6.5grand was credited we still owed 18.5grand!! In January 2013 we sold our property for £130,000 we owed £120,000 on mortgage and £2000 on solicitors & estate agent fees so we had 8,000 profit from the sale but we owed Nemo 18,000. We have been upfront with Nemo from the start & told them we couldn't pay the full amount back, they have been very very unhelpful telling us one thing then another. They can stop the sale of our housed going ahead if they dong agree to changing the remainder of the secured loan to unsecured, they sent us a letter asking for lots of information which we supplied them with, in the mean time our buyers wanted to move and we told Nemo this, still 4 weeks later they ring us up asking us for more information!! Then promising us a reply within 5 days, they are playing with our lives here we can not do ang thing until they agree to puting the remainder of the secured loan to unsecured, Nemo called us today & said they needed another bit of information from us & yet again if would be another week b4 they decided,we'd told them if you don't get back to us in 48 hours we have no option but to hand the keys in to our mortgage company and leave the property and you will get nothing. We are waiting a reply the 48 hous are up Monday morning, let's see what happens. We would rather hand our keys in & rent then have a company dictate to us when we can move & sell our house, NEMO You can go to hell.

Nemo finance are very happy to lend you money but its a very different story when you have any financial difficulty. After my marriage broke down I struggled to pay my bills and had 2 small children. Every company was helpful apart from nemo! I was told they would take me to court and apply to repossess my home. It's a complete joke I borrowed 10,000 and have paid back over 14,000 yet I still owe them nearly 5,000 how is that???? I pay £50 a month and £31 of that is interest it's truly shocking!! I do not know how they can treat people like this. No matter how bad you need money problems are never ever borrow from nemo as your problems will end up a whole lot worse!!

Do not ever use Nemo, this is the first time I have ever entered a review on anything on the internet but feel so strongly about how bad this company is that I hope mine and the other reveiws here stop other people making the same mistake I did. I borrowed £24k when I was desperate in 2007 (secured against my property)and have paid off £17.5k only to be told that I still owe £22k. I don't know how this can be legal because it's quite simply astounding how they can charge so much interest. I feel very foolish for having got myself embroilled with them in the first place. In addition their tactics to hound you for any late payments is, as another reviewer accurately describes, like a bunch of thugs. I have recently lost my job and tried to agree reduced payments (not stopping payments, just reduced) for a period of time until I get another job. They have been calling at all hours and sending numerous letters and when I have spoken to them they have been quite threating in their manner to make me prove that I am unable to pay the full monthly payments for a short time. Please do not ever be tempted to use them, speak to a debt management company like Payplan who are like a dream compared to Nemo!!

“I borrowed £15k on my property in 2005 with Nemo,...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 16/05/2011

I borrowed £15k on my property in 2005 with Nemo, whist running a small business, as my business partner withdrew a few months after I took the loan, the business stsrted to suffer, for various reasons. By early 2006 I realised that my business would not be as profitable as it should be and I was financially suffering, I decided to put my property on the market to pay all my debts off so I could start again, I accepted an offer on the property, and waited for a total of 8 months before I fell into negative equity, because Nemo could not get of their asses to make a decision to let me sell and pay them back, even their solicitor was on the phone to my solicitor saying they could not understand the vindictiveness. One week they would let me exchange contracts, then they changed their mind, then they changed their mind again, until they decided they would take their chance with a repossession as the property should have risen in value by then.
Ironically I had a letter from the estate agents congratulating me with the house sale.

In the end anyone who is in business, should be happy to cut their losses when faced with such a situation, but not Nemo.
Avoid them at all cost!!!

It was repossessed by the mortgage company, because of Nemo finance constantly messing me about, and my understanding was that nemo received nothing from the property. (Which I am pleased about). I moved away, I declared myself Bankrupt (also due to other debts) which was sadly the best thing I had done for myself in years. I asked the official receiver if Nemo had ever replied to any of their communication, and the reply was no. Sums their attitude up, but also that their own solicitor got in touch (back in 06) to apologise for their attitude, it really speaks volumes about that company.

WE USED NEMO WHEN WE NEEDED TO BORROW SOME MONEY TO DO SOME HOME IMPROVEMENTS AND PAY OFF SOME OTHER CREDIT CARD DEBT. THE PROCESS OF APPLICATION WAS SO SIMPLE AND STRAIGHTFORWARD AND WE WERE ABLE TO HAVE OUR MONEY VERY QUICKLY. WE WERE DEALT WITH PLEASANTLY AND EFFECTIVELY AND NOTHING WAS TOO MUCH TROUBLE FOR THEM. WE HAVE JUST SETTLED OUR LOAN EARLY AND AGAIN, UNLIKE OTHER COMPANIES WHO DID NOT WANT US TO PAY OUR DEBTS OFF, THEY COULD NOT DOO ENOUGH TO HELP. WE WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE WISHING TO GET A SECURED LOAN.

I really can't see a reason to give this company a single star. They pray on desperate people and once they have their claws in, you cannot get away from them. We borrowed 36k and after 4 years of paying £600.00 per month we now owe them 54k. This loan has been mis-sold. They now claim that we borrowed 49k but 9k of this was for credit insurance which we did not ask for. I am currently taking legal advice and would advise anyone in a similar situation to do the same. If you have money problems DO NOT GO TO NEMO, I did and have regretted it, they set the interest on the value of the last house sold like mine, very low so their interest high, then value it again to give me enough assets to take the loan when I was desperate. Your monthly payment will be almost all interest. Go to payplan, they will help you without ripping you off. I wish I knew about them before taking a loan to pay off debt

Unknown to them as everything was done via postal service I forged my husbands signature as I am not on the property deed. The loan was accepted immediatley, then 6 months later a letter came to say I was such a good payer why dont i top up the loan, being a gambler I did. This was 2005,after addressing all my issues in 2009 after stopping the payments to nemo in 2006, I went bankrupt, bare in mind they never pursued non payment of the loan untill they were told I was bankrupt. They then had my husband and myself arrested on fraud charges. My husband thank god was cleared but I face crown court for fraud,I warn all people they are quick to lend via post, but will take your life from you with no remorse. We did offer nemo 10k but they refused, now it is going to court and they wont get a penny just a prison sentence for me they say they wish they accepted the offer.NEVER USE THIS COMPANY

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 13/04/2010

yes you are quite correct they lend to people at risk but also when the times are tough flexibility should be with the lenders, peoples circumstances change and if you are fortunate to be in the same job and in the same relationship all your life then that's great but if things change as they do, then there should be the choice to sell the house ans pay the loan back before repossession as with my first mortgage lender, nemo didn't even give me the opportunity to sell my house, to their disadvantage as they didn't get all there money back and it then becomes an unsecured loan where i still have to pay it back, they don't just write the loan off. Before you make judgement i would suggest you know peoples circumstances before you reply as it is not all about interest rates and lending to high risk lenders, most people do actually want to pay the money back that they borrowed but the opportunity has to be in the first place and it wasn't with Nemo.

★★☆☆☆

written by on 24/03/2010

I realise that the PPI is a rip off, as it generally is with all insurance sold by the lender at point of sale, but surely you know the interest rate when you sign up for the loan so how can you complain after the event. Interest rates are high because generally speaking the borrowers are a high risk and the company has to make a profit when customer default (they don't make money on repossessions, they just reduce the amount of their loss). I don't think you'll find that Nemo is any worse than other such companies (most of who have now gone out of business because they were unable to make a profit). I would hate to be in a position where I am risk of losing my house, it must be terrifying, but individuals have to take some responsibility for borrowing too much money in the first place.

Hi there - there won't be much by way of freely available settlement figures, and if you check the terms of the original loan you may even find that there's a clause that retains 10% of the original loan as an ongoing agreement which Nemo would expect you to repay as a loan (they would recalculate a suitable - for Nemo - installment. It does all depend on the terms and what the current apr Nemo are using. I am intrigued that Nemo are looking to charge you for a settlement figure... which I thought you were able to get for free.. (although Nemo would of course factor in their 'admin' costs into any settlement figure anyway). A more drastic way of getting a settlement figure quickly, might be to withold installments for a period of time - Nemo may send you correspondence with the outstanding balance featuring large. Within 6 months you may be invited to repay the outstanding balance... Of course you'd have to deal with daily phone calls and 'overbearing' written communications - for which Nemo are likely to charge extra. I'm not advocating such a drastic course of action, as what would happen to Nemo if everybody decided to withhold their payments in some form of protest. In essence it is simplest just to request the settlement figure, and settle... the longer you take the more it will be costing you. Don't forget to have some fun though, by challenging any settlement figure - asking for the detailed calculations that they have invented... to arrive at a figure that may be more than you expect.make the assumption that Nemo will not be offering you a reasonable settlement figure - you could do the sums yourself to see how much your installments should have taken off.

My uncle got a loan through Nemo of £20,000 about 10 years ago, he's been paying £310 per month for the last 10 years, he has now been made bankrupt. Now they have been granted a charging order on his property. Even though he is bankrupt they still want him to pay £180 per month for the next 17 years interest free, and charge remains on the property until the full amount is paid. Can anyone give us any advice on what we can do or where we can go now? total amount paid in 17 years time will be a grand total of approximately £60,000 on just a £20,000 loan.

I dont know what the terms were on the loan ten years ago. They seem to have much more regulated terms now by the FCA. You can always write to the ombudsman if you suspect that tthey are charging you more than they should have. Its outrageous that the loan has not paid off by now.

I would like to know if Nemo is a legitimate company and if they can really help someone like me? I have started the process of applying for a like they say Non Collateral loan of which I paid R7250 to secure the loan and now need to pay R9500 for the transfer of the loan. Is that correct if you can help me with that? Why all this money? Why don't they tell you this upfront so that you can get the funds together? The reason you apply for the loan in the first place is because you don't have money now you must run around looking for money. I would like to know that Nemo is for real and that they can help me with this last process as they said of the transfer of the money.

Don't use this Loan Company, we took £20000 secured on our property 6 years ago, we got our PPI back £7500 which was paid back onto the loan, we sold our house which Nemo made very very hard for us and the profit of £9000 was paid direct to Nemo and we have made 6 years worth of payments totalling £14000 so all together we have paid Nemo about £30,000 and they are still saying we owe them around the £15,000 mark! STAY AWAY FROM NEMO that's my advise.....

Just don't touch them. Go to a bank or building society. Look at what others are saying about them as well

As a past customer of Nemo Finance, OK they appear legitimate and very nice - offering loans and support to 'hook' the unwary. There are instances of occasions when people in financial difficulties with nemo loans outstanding have been subject to litigation and Nemo have attempted to recover way more than could be reasonably expected. For example - for a 40K outstanding loan on a proprty worth 200,000 Nemo wanted the property and the 40K as well. There are other similar stories... Suffice to say there is what could be considered 'sharp practice' and all is well whilst making payments (payments fixed at the onset of the loan did seem to vary on occasion but always upwards, never reflecting bank lending rate reductions. Are they legal - yes probably, are they honourable... make up your own mind...
