written by strongcelebi on 23/06/2007

At first when I got this phone, I thought it was amazing. But then when I started using it I knew I'd made a mistake. Sure, it has good, even great features. But you can't do anything with those buttons! EVERY program you do, you end up pressing the wrong button by mistake and exiting it all. the Samsung E900 is useless.

The E900 phone is great. I am very pleased with it, as I said above the touch screen can be annoying but cant complain as everyone knew it was there before purchasing! I think the sound is just right, not too loud and not too quiet. The camera is FANTASTIC if you only want to use it in the day, at night its not great even with flash on! The signal is perfect, Bluetooth is good as well seems to connect straight away which is better than my last phone!
I think the battery runs out a bit too quick but that could just be the amount I use the features such as Bluetooth and MP3 player, which by the way is BRILLIANT! I love the fact the phone has a camera and MP3 player button on the side of the which means you don't have to go through the menus to get them up!
Overall I think this phone is by far the best I've ever had and would definitely recommend it too anyone looking for a stylish, up to date model.

written by kirstonie on 21/05/2007

This is the second E900 handset that I have received. Both phones have been faulty. My first phone kept turning itself on and off when I was on the opening screen pressing the up short key. The second E900 that I now have worked well for a while but is now doing pretty much the same thing when I press one of the touchscreen buttons. Really unreliable and for that reason I wouldn't recommend it!

I have had all makes of phones and this is by far the best phone I have had. I got it the first day it came out in England and I have loved it from day one. It is a difficult phone to get used to but I have had no problems with it. The reception is brilliant and the sound is great. Pictures look absolutely brilliant. Recommend it to anyone. I bought it in the UK when I lived there and now moved to New Zealand and it works really well out here as well.

I had this Samsung E900 as a replacement for my E770 (dropped it in the washing up bowl!) and I am very disappointed in it. The D500 and E770 were brilliant phones but this is useless and I can't wait for my contract to end in September when I can replace it with something that has BUTTONS!!!!

The phone will only go back to the main screen if you close the slider, here's how to fix this:
1)Go to menu
2)Go to settings
3)Go to phone settings
4)Go to slide settings
5)Go to down and scroll to: continue operation.
Hope this helped

“I was really torn between getting this phone or the SE...”

★★★★☆

written by missfeather on 05/01/2007

I was really torn between getting this phone or the SE K800i, I went for the Samsung as the SE looked like a bit of a beast size wise and I was lured in by the Samsung's good looks! And yes the E900 is small and light and the slide mechanism very appealing. However it does have some issues.. it always seems to flick back to the main screen when you are in the middle of something, presumably because of the very sensitive touch screen, so you waste a lot time and get quite frustrated! It makes my ears burn when I am on a call- and not after a long time, say a few minutes. Reception isn't good and the caller often sounds muffled. The photo function is terrible as you have to stand perfectly still to take a pic or it just blurs and the flash at night doesn't really do anything.
I think the sound quality and functionality of the MP3 player is just fine tho, altho regarding sounds would be nice to have a few more options, and the skins too, not much choice in colours etc. So all feels a bit basic.

So to sum up, it does look like a cool little number and it does the basics, if you are patient. But I think I am going to change to the Sony ericsson, because even tho it is bigger it sounds like a better phone for functionality..

★★☆☆☆

written by hillsy on 01/01/2007

The E900 was given to me as an upgrade from a D600. The build quality seems cheap and tacky and the touch sensitive screen is awful - the camera is also more difficult to use than the D600. The sound when playing music through the speaker is poor when compared to other similar priced phones. I gave it to my wife and kept my D600 - a much better phone!

Very stylish phone, but the features aren't as good as some other phones. Unfortunately, there are more bad points than good.

written by cymru78 on 09/11/2006

My bad points may be a little bit petty but they are the only things wrong with this Samsung SGH-E900 phone. To some people it might be important while to others they might not.
Overall though, the phone is slim, light and has a nice bright and crisp display.
The camera is good but you do need the object and yourself to stay pretty still but I didn't get the phone for the camera.
The menus are easy to navigate and as previously said, you will get used to the touch sensitive 'buttons'.
Texting is very easy to get the hang of too.
I don't think the battery life is as bad as some comments. Like most phones it depends on how much you plan on using it. If you use it for video, games and the wap, then it will drain a bit quicker.
I can't find 'profile' settings like on most phones so you can change, for example, your settings at the touch of a button and you have to go through the menus. Of course, I could be wrong about this though.

What a great review. I am due an upgrade soon could you tell me if the texting on the Samsung has improved since my D600. I hate the fact that its such hard work to change words to capital letters after a full stop and if you forget to select the correct word when using T9 then you have to start again. Please advise on your texting experience.

Cymru78's Response to cymru78's Review

Written on: 15/11/2006

Sorry for not replying sooner.
As I have no experience with other Samsung mobile phone models, I am not familiar with their texting capabilities (or lack of).

My last phone was a Sony Ericsson, and I was dreading learning a new way of texting, but it came to me like a duck to the water.

I find texting very easy indeed. To get T9 just press and hold the * key, then press for your choice (ie: first letter in caps/all lower case/numbers).

If you don't want T9, press and hold * then, and again on each press you can choose all caps/lower case/first letter in caps/numbers.

“I as very put off getting this Samsung SGH-E900 phone...”

★★★★★

written by elfordk on 08/11/2006

I as very put off getting this Samsung SGH-E900 phone as I read the reviews on many different sites but I am glad I stuck to my choice now it has arrived. I just wanted to leave a review to make a point on every bad thing I have read so far!

As you can see, all the negative reviews are very petty - half the stuff people moan about, if they had a flick through the manual, it would be sorted. Many people do seem to be writing in with faulty phones though, but I seem to be lucky. Surely this is true for any technical thing really, there always seems to be a bad batch. People are singing the praises of Sony Ericsson; I had one and had to get it changed 4 times in a month, due to the joystick in the middle breaking on all of them. Anyone else I have spoken to who had that phone had the same problem. So it is the same everywhere!

So if you cannot read, have fat fingers and are too tight to buy a MP3 player, this phone is not for you!

This Samsung SGH-E900 is a fantastic phone which looks great! The touch screen is fantastic as long as you don't have fat fingers. The memory is sufficient for normal phone users. I'm not one to use as an MP3 phone but most people have MP3 players now anyway so not gonna complain about that.

written by Candyg on 14/09/2006

Just a short review as I only had this Samsung SGH-E900 phone for a day. Have had other Samsung phones in the past (most recently the D500) and upgraded to this one. The touch screen buttons were just a complete nightmare and totally put me off. I just wasn't sure where I was putting my fingers! Awful feature!!

“I down graded to the Samsung SGH-E900 several months...”

★★★☆☆

written by JIM UK06 on 09/09/2006

I down graded to the Samsung SGH-E900 several months ago and unfortunately accepted an 18 month contract on it.
The phone its self does have very stylish looks which is what made me get it. It boasts touch screen technology along with the usual 2 mega pixel camera, bluetooth, mp3 player etc.
The problems began when accessing the main menu because of the touch screen all you have to do is brush the wrong button and the phone resets to wall paper and you have to start again. After doing this half a dozen times it begun to annoy. The phone also has what i would call limited memory especially when making use of the mp3 facility. I had to purchase a micro SD card for £30 in order to use it properly. To say that the phones camera is a 2 Mega pixel, its nothing to get exited about the quality is average and the zoom is rubbish. It does have a flash but its not much good. The battery lasts around 2 days if you don't use the phone leaving it on standby and about a day maximum if you do use it.
For some reason I struggle to get a decent signal , Vodafone say its OK and its how the phone works , VERY USEFULL!!
I would not recommend this phone for the reason that it will drive you to the point of doing it damage after 50 attempts of trying to access what you need. Do not be fooled by its sleek styling and buy something else that's been better designed.

The Samsung SGH-E900 is nice looking phone but seems as though it was produced in a hurry and several bugs remain. Maybe later versions will be improved, I don't see how the touchpad problem will be solved though.

★★★☆☆

written by lex00 on 04/08/2006

Overall, the Samsung SGH-E900 is a very nice looking mobile phone which will be desirable due to the amount of advertisements put into it, but it's not really a great phone.

The software is pretty good once you get used to it. The touch screen - I can't make my mind up if i like it or not. It is extremely sensitive, and having big clumsy hands, I always seem to lose a completed text message or call someone by accident (specifically an ex girlfriend), although it is smooth and attractive.

After previously owning a Sony Ericsson 750i, the camera seems tame. Having 2 mega-pixels you would think that it would be the same as its rival, but not having auto focus really does hinder any photo, especially the photo's that camera phones make like when you're on the move or in a pub/club.

All in all, do not get this phone if you like functionality, but get it if you're just looking for stunningly good looks.
