I don`t usually make a complaint but what is the point in GUMTREE if your ads do not get published. 16 hours ago I placed an add to rent a house out, I have never placed an add before, but was easy to place and expected a few hours and it would be live but no chance. The live chat does not work I have waited 30 mins and no answer to it and the premium rate number just puts you into a Q waiting. I can see how they make money dropping people in the Q it must be a gold mine.

Gumtree would be more valuable if it was chopped down and made into A4 paper, at least you can print on the damn thing! Anyways, Ads are processing for 9 days, I will not ring the premium rate 0905 number they have, their live chat does not work, their email system has not responded to my emails for 6 days, I've had enough, will never use them again! Very Poor Service - Adflyer is much better

This site is a hot bed for scammers and fraudsters. I have advertised, or should I say tried to advertise, a couple of mobile phones I no longer want due to upgrades and apart from the fact Gumtree keep removing one of them because it's apparantly illegal (?)all I get is scammers who are mainly traceable to Eastern Europe trying to con me into replying to so called personal email address', give them my emaiul address and paypal ID numbers, all of which I refuse. There is no point to the site as you spend all your time being pestered and the so called customer services don't exist. If you report a suspected scam all they do is tell you they have blocked the person but that's rubbish as I have found out as they keep emailing you and just change their email address, simples! BAD SITE, BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE, FULL OF CON ARTISTS, UTTER RUBBISH...OH AND PRELOVED IS NO BETTER.

Gumtree is a site which relies on word recognition software to sell animals via an automated sytstem. No human reads these ads prior to them going live. This means millions of animals are being trafficked via the site with no monitoring and little legal protection. No home address or landline telephone number is required to sell on gumtree which makes it a haven for backyard breeders and those involved in the sales of stoeln animals and banned breeds. The staff are untrained in animal law, zoology etc and wouldn't know the difference between a budgie and a spix macaw. It's now known as SCUMTREE or SCAMTREE.Gumtree is quickly losing becoming a site for the tacky, unethical sellers to exploit whatever and whoever they can.Thousands of ads are on their which are against their own rules or the law.

I have read the posting rules three times and posted my ad twice (same item but 2 totally different descriptions after the first one was removed) my ad is not in breach of the rules so why does it keep getting deleted? I have wasted 2 days trying to post an item for sale on Gumtree, I have contacted their customer service who have not bothered to reply. After 12 hours in processing it's just automatically deleted, in the meantime I have posted on three other sites no problem. I would not use again.

they dont make your items go live, waste your time adding items for them not to bother making them live. f*** them now time waters

Due to a break-up I was selling all of my belongings including a TV cabinet. Within a day of listing it, Gumtree removed the item saying that it breached Gumtree rules saying that it was in the same vein as pornography, knives, stolen goods or that the advert used offensive language. Firstly, it's a TV cabinet! Secondly, regarding the language, judge for yourself: Solid pine TV cabinet for sale. I don't think that's offensive unless those kindly folk at Gumtree don't like the idea of pine trees being wrought and carved into furniture? Pretty unprofessional, and offering no avenues for redress save for a £2/minute (from mobiles) phoneline is pretty reprehensible. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

I placed a free add on Gumtree which stays on the site for 3 months then expires. Firstly the add showed up in the wrong area(it was a property) and when I contacted them they said it was because they had to place it to the nearest city which was over 100 miles away! I did however get a response to my add and a viewing so when the add expired you have no option but to pay to get it back on the web. I duly paid £9.95 to be a 'featured add' for 7 days and then it would remain in the listings after that. It did appear as featured but one week on it expired!??? So I paid £10 to place an add for 1 week. I've emailed them twice and tried their online chat which is never available and recieved no reply or explanation. I think it's now become to big for its boots as I used it a few years ago and thought it was great. There are loads of other websites to advertise for free so use them instead.

Gumtree the commercial love child of Ebay is run simply on selling advertising as "featured" that is not fully transparent.Your ad will at best be seen sporadically over a 24 hour cycle so the casual browser will miss what you have paid to promote. Try to complain and you will meet a wall of untrained, ignorant, unhelpfull and non customer focussed people who struggle to grasp the basics of customer service. As a company they will make money but it will be at your cost and dissatifaction.

I have repeatedly been trying to warn Gumtree of a fraudelant company advertising on their site. I have both photographic proof, as well as letters from my solicity to the related company. This company is repeatedly advertising on Gumtree, for various trades (none of which they are proficient in). They badly damaged by proprty, causing leaks from faulty plumbing and putting in dangerous electrics. I have reported the adverts, I have emailed Gumtree using the online form, I have contacted them on twitter and I have tracked down a number and called them . Noone has got back to me. All I want is to provent this company from advertising and thus trapping home owners like me and causing as much distress (financially and emotionally) as they have. Gumtree obviously do not give a damn

Been trying to post ad for almost three weeks...they keep removing it. My advert is virtually identical to every other ad on this site. Their customer service is a joke get the feeling that they want you to pay for the 'free ad' I was just about to go ahead and pay, but thought that given the lack of progress over the last three weeks, the ad might never appear and my money would probably disappear!!! Gumtree is past its sell by date...time to go back to my local paper.

Ok, like many others on here I would say that a few years ago Gumtree was fantastic. I used it all the time, especially the jobs section. However, Gumtree has gone down hill, and I mean seriously! In fact I'm not sure it is possible to sink much lower. There are so many reasons to avoid it, but I'll give you a few right here: 1. Totally illegal adverts are left up, whilst many perfectly legit and genuine adverts are removed. 2. If you place an ad it is a lottery as to whether it goes live at all - even if you have paid for it. 3. The 'jobs' section is a joke. Gumtree seem to think that multi-level marketing fraud, unpaid slave labour and online survey sites classify as 'jobs'. 4. There are not nearly as many postings as it would seem. In most sections the same old rubbish is just recycled and posted again and again. 5. Customer service will hassle you trying to sell you ads (you must be mad to pay money for one), but they are rude and obnoxious if you actually have a problem and need help. 6. If you are trying to sell an item or a service you will soon find out that Gumtree users don't want to pay anything (and I mean quite literally - they want things, no actually they expect things (like its a human right) for free). Of course they will still waste your time as if they are paying customers. In a nutshell Gumtree is dead. Save your blood pressure and don't even go there.

I've used Gumtree in the past and have made a few sales purchases through them but these days it is not worth the agro. I am a keen Nikon photographer and used Gumtree to buy and sell kit. Last week I spent the week looking for certain items and checked to see how many fake adds were added each day (difficult to verify genuine adds but with patience and by e-mailing each vendor I checked who was real and who was 'somewhere else and needed bank transfers to odd accounts'). So how did they stack up? Well, of 214 ads placed over the week, 98 were false / fraudulent ads!! Nearly 50%!!!!! This is just insane, I hope Gumtree do something about this but with their 'open' policy and limited policing powers I don't see how they can. Buyer beware.. I'm off to a new site, not worth the agro.

As little as 2 years ago (last time I used the site) I would have given them 5 out of 5. Now, I wish there was an option of zero stars as i would definitely be giving them that if I could.
I've always advertised my properties on gumtree and have always found wonderful tenants.
However, recently they appear to have gotten a bit trigger-happy, blocking and deleting ads, users and e-mail addresses, refusing to reply to customer queries, and it has basically become the most obnoxious website i have ever come accross, with a ZERO customer service level.
I am definitely not the only person this has happened to - check out their forums! Full of several years worth of unhappy users.
If you don't enjoy feeling frustrated, avoid like the plague. Use the loot instead. And more importantly, definitely, definitely do not pay for any services on this site. If you have problems, they do not answer customer queries so short of taking them to court, you'll get no service, and no money back.

A friend recommended Gumtree and I think it's a great site. You can find anything from housemates to concert tickets as well as selling stuff. Recently sold some tickets for Aphex Twin at the Warehouse Project, arranged postage and payment, all went smoothly. Will definitely use again.
What I would say is that there isn't anything really to protect users as you deal directly with people as opposed to the site dealing on behalf of you so anything done is done at own risk, however I have never had a problem. It's like an online version of the Loot!

Totally agree, it is over run with certain types of people who believe fraud and dishonesty is the only way to go.
