“Good job overall”

★★★★☆

written by kimfustier on 03/03/2014

Online PC customisation was relatively easy to use. Decent choice. However the system didn't flag that the sound card wouldn't fit in the box - thankfully I received a refund very promptly. Delivery took a while - around 3 1/2 weeks after placing the order. It arrived well packaged but the hard drive was unplugged for some reason. Good job overall.

“Excellent service”

★★★★★

written by Homer67 on 02/03/2014

My previous PC from PC specialist needed upgrading after 10 years so I opted for a cheaper range PC as I don't need to game on it anymore and picked a basic custom model for under £500. The service was quicker than expected and everything worked perfectly out of the box. Excellent delivery with full tracing via text message and all built as requested with no errors. I wish all internet shopping was like this!

“PC Specialist Ulranote 15.6" Laptop Review”

★★★★☆

written by Franka106 on 02/03/2014

Website is easy to negotiate, informative and well-designed. A wide range of products are on offer, allowing for am ideal buying experience, and extensive customisation. A good balance of technical info and jargon free explanations. I twice called the company (to satisfy questions I had, not to complaim) and was extremely satisfied with the information and customer service I received. Once ordered, the company was very good about keeping me informed on the process of my order, through email and SMS. I was slightly disappointed in the timescales involved in receiving my order, but the website was up front about these timings, and I suppose it is to be expected for a totally customised product. The delivery arrived when it was supposed to, the device was safely packaged and protected. All items arrived intact and in working order. The product itself is fantastic - no problems whatsoever. The best computer I have ever owned. Having only used it for a couple of weeks, I cannot testify to its longevity though. All in all, I am delighted with the product and the service I received.

“Computer great, a couple of little problems only”

★★★★☆

written by Kobe409 on 02/03/2014

Overall very happy with the PC. It is built exactly as I requested and works well. The build time was very quick once started but the lead time was veally long, perhaps some more information as to where your order is in the queue rather than just pending would have helped to reassure me. Delivery was exceptional, DPD deserves a pat on the back. The computer is great, the only issues I had were that the second hard drive had not been setup in disc management and that one of the motherboard drivers had not been installed. Luckily I am reasonably proficient on computers so could easily resolve it, but it could have been a problem for other people. Once sorted however everything is fine

“MY NEW CUSTOM BUILT PC THROUGH PC SPECIALIST”

★★★★☆

written by Alshe on 02/03/2014

Having bought my pervious PC some 6 years ago through PC Specialist I felt reasonably confident that I would get what I wanted and have specialised help during the selection process. The web site is very easy to use and contains considerable detail of all available components. However, when seeking advice by phone there can be quite some delay in getting through - perhaps a few more staff on the lines would help, providing that didn't make a big increase in costs to the customer. I noticed in the available screen giving waiting information that quite a few customers give up and rang off! Although my chosen system components were specified as compatible, during the build I found that I had to make a change. Thais was not due to electronic incompatibility but because one of the parts covered another and a necessary connection was obscured. However, receiving a phone call from PC Specialist I was given several options which either made a small increase in the price or alternatively I could choose less expensive components that would do the job and the problem was soon sorted. Once the configuration and the building process have started the customer is kept fully informed of progress by emails. When finally ready for dispatch delivery timing was very accurate and a final email told me that the delivery would take place within a set time, which was in my case just a couple of hours ahead. This timing was kept to. My total wait time from ordering to receipt was a little longer than originally specified perhaps due to the problem mentioned above. The package arrived in good condition and the components were well packed. The only downside is the reconfiguration(and learning!) process that has to be gone through when changing PCs and operating systems!!!

“Nothing But the Best! ”

★★★★★

written by Laylaho285 on 02/03/2014

What can I say about PCspecialist that has not already been said by most people. The person I spoke to in the order department was very helpful and very knowledgable. Placing a 'not out of the box' order was easy. The most difficult bit was the waiting. It was longer than I hoped it would be but it was just less than predicted - so I was very satisfied with that. I was constantly kept up to date as the order progressed through departments and it was dispatched and delivered smoothly. Every thing that should be there -is. Everything was installed and the discs included. Easy to set up. This computer is exactly what I wanted, how I wanted it. In short PCspecialist does exactly what it says on the box with no unpleasant surprises. They are a well-oiled machine and the delivery company delivered exactly when they said they would.

“PC Specialist: Brilliant Company, Service and Computer”

★★★★★

written by AlexHarradine on 01/03/2014

Ordered my computer on 31st January and received on February 20th. Through-out the process I was kept well informed via email and text about the progress of my order. When I need to speak to the customer service team, the process was easy and the staff exceptionally patient and helpful. My order was packaged exceptionally well and the welcome pack explained everything that needed to be done in addition to normal setup. They also include all the spares that come with various components in this welcome pack, along with all the software and drivers you need for your computer. (Something you wouldn't get with a store bought PC). On opening the boxes, each part of my system was in perfect condition and well packaged within their respective boxes. All the manuals etc were also included. After finally unpackaging everything and hooking it all up, it was clear that the build quality was beyond exceptional and a lot of care had been put in to make sure the components were seated correctly. And then finally the actual system. I wont bore people with the details of my build, but suffice to say it's the first truly top end PC I've bought (all my others have been laptops or standard shelf bought PC's), and WOW does it do the job. When creating the PC, the website ensures that all the components are compatible with each other and this is definitely evident. I've set up with 2 27" monitors and I've had 20-30 internet pages open, a blu ray playing and games like BF4 and Assassin's Creed Black Flag all running at ultra settings at the same time without any lag or performance issues. If you want a well made, custom pc that does exactly what you want of it, then buy it from PC Specialist. 100% good experience with them from start to finish. Definitely recommended!! Thank you PC Specialist =D!

I found the website exceptionally easy to use. Being able to choose each part of the computer individually was a breeze. Especially when you can't decide, for example what motherboard you want...! The website is exellently laid out & a pleasure to browse through. Having a payment plan to boot is great if you can't pay everything at once. Overall I would use it again and recommend it other people. Thanks PC Specialist.

“Wonderful Machine and Excellent Service”

★★★★★

written by Feiwinx on 01/03/2014

Starting with the customer service; it was great. I had no problems with my purchase anyway but a change of delivery was quick and easy. Very happy with the way the staff spoke and dealt with me, couldn't of asked for more. The product itself may be reasonably expensive, but upon using and playing with the machine, it's was easily worth it. I've now got a laptop that does everything I need it to - no problems or complaints. The set-up was a standard windows account set-up with no install necessary, all I had to do was plug things in and start personalising it. In terms of hardware I have had no real problems, although the disc drive does feel a little weak, but in reality it isn't any different to most other disc drives. The rest of the build is solid and makes the entire thing feel very safe from damage and knocks. Overall, I'm very happy with the service and the product - could not ask for more!

“very solid service but not without a flaw or two.”

Well after a slightly longer than anticipated wait my shiny new rig arrived. Everything was well packaged and sealed securely. After initial set up on my desk and after previously reading the Forums regarding the Zalman z11 case id purchased i knew i had to open the case to connect one of the fans to the power supply. It was then that i found one of the clips holding in the perspex side panel had been snapped off. With no sign of it inside the case it seems apparent that this has happened in the build stage and allthough not really a major problem id have expected a little better for the 1100 pound i paid. Once powered up the machine ran smoothly through all the set up and the updates. Now i bought this rig mostly for gaming so once fully updated i decided to install my games. Nothing wrong there and no problems untill i actually started to play them. Seemingly everytime i left the pc to idle on a game screen for more than ten minutes or so say while i made a hot drink i would find on my return either the pc had shut itself down or as soon as i instigated some kind of on screen movement the pc would shut down..........either type of shut down then goibg on to advise me thatthis was done as the pc detected a power surge. Considering im running with a surge protector this shouldnt be happening and again after checking numerous forums it seems its the on board surge software on the mobo causing this. I decided on the R9 280x 3gb Gpu as i wanted the best i could afford while not overspending. The card seema to work well and perform solidly but ive not really thrown much more than world of warcraft and eve online at it. What i did notice though was a high pitch whine coming from the gpu whenever im on a game menu screen. No doubt a casenof coil whine and really something id have expected to be picked up on in quality testing alongside the mobo power surge issues. all in all though im happy enough with the system i have now. If the gremlins seem to persist then i will be back onto pc assist for a solution but fingers crossed the coil whine will self right soon enough. I bought an I7, 4770k 8gb kingston ram, 1tb western digital caviar black hard drive, 3gb r9 280x amd gpu, zalman z11 case. Id recomment pc specialist to my friends and family as the things listed can and will happen with any service like this.

★★★★★

written by 159Delaney on 01/03/2014

I was dreading ordering a new PC, feeling a little out of touch with what was out there, but knowing I didn't want to pick up an off-the-shelf PC. The ordering process made things very simple, and ensured that what I was ordering was a feasible build. I had to sit on my hands a little to avoid constantly checking how far along in the process the order was, but the ability to check in the first place was great. The PC arrived on time, in good order. Now enjoying a very nice honeymoon with the new build. Really pleased with how neatly put together it was, and the inclusion of optical media back-ups for Windows.

My PC was built to a very high standard and works perfectly. There was a slight delay in pre-production, but the builders were very busy at that time. The cost of the PC seemed to be cheaper than if I had bought the parts myself! Great overall service, with good communication.

The means of selecting a bespoke PC from the PC specialist site is very, very good. The choice available to get what you want is better than I could find anywhere else. The PC was ordered totally on line. The machine was delivered in approximately 2 weeks from order date; slightly more than advertised. It was well packed and is exactly what I specified and it works as expected. I would recommend PC specialists. My only gripe is that 0844 phone number. Having spent around 2K on a PC, I do not expect to have to pay for ordering or support. It is also unclear what the calls cost. Online chat does work well when available.

Things I was happy with: - the assortment of the products. Things that I would have liked: - faster production. Things I did not enjoy: - The delivery took more time than it should have (I had payed for 3 day delivery) - The website had estimated the initial price of the laptop wrongly and had requested me a lower sum. Something that later I had to pay for (Had to go through a lot of things one more time).

I have built many systems myself, and usually I would build the system personally, but with the current state of the market for GPUs, and CPUs, I would recommend getting a service like PCSpecialist to build the system as you are going to save money. That said, there is no danger in looking at YouTube channels like Gamers Nexus (highly recommend), and JayZTwoCents (also very good). The first thing you want to look at is what you need the system for. Look at your current monitor, if it only does 60hz, then I wouldn't try for a 120fps system unless you plan to upgrade your monitor as well. Unfortunately, it really is a deep dark endless cave of possibilities, but if you build around the Games or Applications you want to use, then you should be fine. If you plan on streaming, try to ensure you get as many threads on your CPU as you can, and 32gb of Ram is really where you need to be at a minimum. GPU wise, go with what you can afford at the upper limit, as the GPU and CPU will make the biggest differences to your systems capabilities. I also recommend a SSD or two as they make a HUGE difference to perceived speed and load times. Good luck, I hope this helped.

It won't save you much, if any, money building it yourself, especially in the current market. If you want to do it for fun then go ahead, many of the build videos on YouTube are very good and it's not that difficult. You may struggle to get a decent GPU though at the moment.
Report this content daniel10e6 Written on: 11/01/2022
If you'd really like to build it yourself, check out the buildapc subreddit where there's plenty of people who'll give you tips and advice. It can be fun and you learn a lot. Personally, although I've built my own PCs in the past, I'd rather pay the (relatively small) extra cost of getting a company to do all of the assembly, testing etc. and have an overall warranty on the computer. I've bought my last two PCs from PCSpecialist, and found them to be very good. You still get to choose the components yourself, they ensure it's all going to work together, and you get a fully working and tested computer delivered.

You should consider getting tech assistance, i have had built to my own specification the equipment i need from PC Specialist, (I have had my last two laptops from them, great service and no, i don't work for them lol). It would make sense to talk to them first as they would have a better grasp of what is currently available in the market right now. They would also know what is best suited to your budget and build according to what you are going to use your PC or laptop for. hope this helps.

I'd get in touch with PC Specialist, they're customer service is really good... Usually a computer will boot straight to bios if it can't find a valid boot device (ie a hard drive / SSD). Like I said though, give PC Specialist a shout and they should be able to sort you out.
Report this content Ninjakiwi Written on: 10/01/2018
If you check the bootable devices in the Bios settings and don't find the HDD/SSD with the OST on it then you can try checking the physical connection with the drive and motherboard. If it's already connected properly then there may be a fault. In which case as said just get advice from PC specialist

Check your BIOS settings for any automatic BIOS access - Like.. As soon as you turn it on, look for something that can turn it off. Also I would recommend speaking to PC Specialist about it.

I can't answer on the laptop front as I bought a desktop from them but the PC casing I got from them is great and the computer itself is still top notch after 18 months and I haven't had any problems with it. Comparing the laptop section to the desktop section seems like that you get what you pay for with the case, as I chose a medium-price case to hold the components as there's no point in tons of great hardware if the case can't ventilate! Sorry I can't be of more specific help but the desktops are great and the cases for the desktops had a wide range and the one I chose is quality and I presume it is the same for laptops C:

I purchased a laptop from them around 1 year ago and I have to say I was disappointed. For the price I paid (around £1.5k) I expected good service and a product of a high standard, but got neither. They are very good at hooking you in to buy, but do not follow that with any decent level of service. The laptop I received is the spec I ordered, but its size and weight are far more than a comparitive product by another manufacturer. I actually now use it as a desktop as its not something which is easily portable. It was also delivered with a dead pixel despite their "full quality assurance process". When I contact their Support about this, I was basically told it was not their problem..

Quality is very good. Much better as the branded ones I have to deal with through the company I work for. Quality of service as well as the machine cannot be compared with companies like Dell or Lenovo. If you have a question or a problem you are dealing with people who know what they are talking about, which is rarely the case at PC world or Dell.

I have a top end laptop from them. The chassis case is made by a Taiwan company called Clevo. The build quality of the chassis is very good, strong and sturdy and has survived two foot drops onto carpet without taking any damage. The screen quality is good but not top end as it flickers slightly when put on low energy modes. The sound quality is aweful - the Onko speakers are tinny and quiet.

Having worked in the IT industry for many years I have used a wide variety of laptop brands. I would consider PC Specialist to be on the upper end of the market as regards build quality. Possibly not quite as robust as Lenovo but not far behind.

I've been using my PC Specialist laptop for about 1 year without any issues. Its a high spec gaming machine running as a 1TB Raid - I don't play games but desired the specification for business graphics. Excellent build quality, robust and just works. My previous machine was a Japanese version Toshiba Satellite and I believe the PC Specialist machine to be at least comparable. Being a top of the range machine it is HEAVY and should be considered a lug-able desktop replacement. Being heavy my only (minor)gripe is the very slim plastic feet/pegs on the base - they cut into my legs necessitating the use of a rigid hardboard/plastic spacer between my flesh and the computer. Why they couldn't have made them wider with a soft rubber foot is a mystery. Excellent screen clarity and resolution. Full sized keyboard. The ONKYO speakers are OK for speech but lack depth for any serious music. It will run Windows 7 and Linux but Oracle Solaris has to be run under VM Virtualbox. Staff have responded to quickly online questions. If ordering a specialist top-end machine it will take time for the build to be accomplished - don't expect it next week!!! Good value for money and worthy of serious investigation; however the choice is yours. Overall

I've had my laptop for about 15 months now: OPtimus V. It runs well, so I think on the performance stakes its good. However, it is heavy; not easily portable (tho' I do just that, carrying it in my rucksack). I consider it good value for money in terms of performance/£ - mine was the highest spec, considerably cheaper than alternative mainstream providers.

Well, I've only had my laptop a few weeks, so this is no long-term test. But... Others [below] will tell you the chassis make, but it has got to be strong & sturdy, cos it weighs a chunk. Which, apart from the portability aspect, I think is a positive. It's not going to warp or twist. And in fairness, it is a 17" model too. Nice keyboard too. my old laptops have usually been Dells', so a big improvement on those. Nice cool looking cover as well; sort of grey/bronze effect, with no external badging. Matt screen works fine, as does everything else. As to the hardware, aside from the chassis, that is really down to you. never had a problem with all of my 3 PCS machines ; and all are still working fine.

I have the PC Specialist ultranote. As others have mentioned, the chassis is made by clevo. I'd say the build quality is good and compares well with other laptop brands bar Apple and maybe Lenovo. The screen is full HD IPS and it is excellent. As for dealing with PC Specialist, I have bought a laptop and desktop from them as well as several upgrade items. I've never had a problem with them and I'd say they are honest and know their stuff. They discouraged me from adding some spurious components to my desktop configuration. Overall, I'd recommend them.

The PC Specialist website is easy to navigate when building your own Laptop and the Cases are of good quality. You can also pay extra for an engineer to do an install and carry out a Data Transfer. After Sales Care is good and they are happy to answer any questions. Would recommend the PC Specialist and I shall buy from them again. Hi there, as you can see someone has already mentioned 'Clevo'... They are indeed Clevo cases with a MoBo pre-installed at factory. The system is then customised by the retailer i.e. PcSpecialist, to fit the requirements of the customer (you). I bought the OptimusIV system and spent around the £800 mark. Having done some research online it seemed the only way forward as other manufacturers just don't have the customisation available and are too dear for starters. Leave Dell HP Compaq alone coz there pants... Also, if your not so good with computers and don't know what to buy, ask a friend who does for help choosing the parts.. Goodluck..

Hi Castleman The only chassis I can tell you about is the Cosmos 2 17.3 in chassis the top is brushed gunmetal grey metal and it is the same on the keyboard area the finish is excellent and it really looks the part the chassis is not cheap and it does not flex the laptop weighs over 3kg I would not hesitate to buy another hope this helps
