“I have been using for a couple of years now,...”

★★★★★

written by moosewood on 27/10/2010

I have been using for a couple of years now, recommended by a friend. The results are always brilliant. It is economical because you can mix as much or as little as you like. I normally get 3 colourings out of a box, most of the time I mix 7d and 7n, covers greays and although a tad dark to begin with settles down to a great natural looking shade.
Brilliant trying to persade my salon to use it.

What a fantastic product! No smell, no itching. Colour was fantastic - dark chestnut. Had previously tried an all natural hair colour which only slightly stained my grey hairs. Herbatint has completely covered them and has left my hair very shiny and looking great. Have recommended to friends.

I am a black female with jherri curl hair. And presently I have completely dyed my hair with herbatint hair color.First of all any product works best when used in conjuction with other products. My hair is healthy, but it was already healthy before I applied the herbatint hair colour, but if I am not mistaken,I do so beleive that the herbatint have contributed greatly to the texture and health of my hair.Yes my hair has been chemically altererd which automatically changed my hair texture, but when I use the herbatint hair color,my hair was significantly softer, and bouncier, and shiny(shimmery). And the Royal Cream Conditioner is absolutely amazing. It is truly a blessing to finally find a hair color product, that actually makes my hair incredibly softer,as appose to having it really dry.Helpful hints.Washing hair at least a day before colouring is highly recommended. Also always make sure your hair is kept very moisturize(not necessarily greasy)especially when hair is coloured. Also use shampoos, conditioner, ect which does not prematurely stripped color from the hair.I truly believe that herbatint is a much safer alternative.

I have found Herbatint fine actually. Remember that it is made by an Italian company so that maybe their view of blonde hair is somewhat different to ours. In a country where a large proportion of the population have jet black hair, anything lighter could be deemed blonde. I started using it when a colleague told me she had used it and I could clearly see how much better condition her hair was in compared to her usual brand. She thought it was too expensive but when you consider that if you have short hair you can get three touch ups out of one pack, I think that it actually works out at a very good price! Plus no bad smells, no burning scalp and generally any accidents in the bathroom with dye spills are not a disaster.

“I have used Herbatint for over a year now, having had...”

★★★★☆

written by on 15/03/2010

I have used Herbatint for over a year now, having had a horrendous salon experienc that resulted in my losing 50% of my lon lustrous much loved copper hair. I was left with straw for hair and an inability to tolerate salon hair colours. It took two years for my hair to regain something of it's former condition, so I was left with the task of finding something gentle with which to colour the now widespread grey. I found Herbatint and after a year or so of experimenting and finetuning colour blends I am truly happy with my hair. The colour is translucent, allowing some of my former red tones to glint through the brunette. It does need root applications every 4 weeks and it does fade in the sun. I have found that the colours run dark, but thought this was due to my hair having been overprocessed and remaining quite porous. My plan was to gradually darken from the damaged straw berry???blonde down to brunette and I like the colour that 5N comes out on my hair, so no need to blend any more now I've got to this dark stage! I just re touch my roots monthly and find that there isn't enough fade to cause "banding" as long as I cover my hair in strong sunlight.
I find the cost quite economical, compared to high end salon prices it's brilliant! I can do 2 touch ups with one box, and a complete application takes 1.5 boxes, but I only need to do that twice/three times a year.
I can see that finding a colour to be different to what you expect can be stressful, but I have always been happy with Herbatint, and loooooove the royal jelly conditioner that comes with it! It's fantastic at taming my unruly tangles after washing out the dye.

written by on 03/12/2009

I switched to this colour product because I couldn't tolerate the smell and itchy scalp after using other products. I find it very gentle and not at all smelly - I can colour my hair without having to open every window in the house. The results are awesome and it lasts as long as salon colours. The colours tend to run a bit dark, which is fine for me because my natural colour is dark brunette, but if you're very blonde you might find that even the blonde colours are too dark. I highly recommend this product.

“NONE OF THE MEDIUM BLOND COLOUR TINTS WORK AT ALL. ...”

written by on 30/11/2009

NONE OF THE MEDIUM BLOND COLOUR TINTS WORK AT ALL. RESULTS ARE MANY SHADES DARKER THAN ADVERTISED. EXPECTING GOLDEN BLOND, LIGHT GOLDEN BLOND, WELL EXPECT A MUDDY ASH OR DARK COPPERY CHESTNUT. THIS PRODUCT JUST DOESN'T WORK AND RESULTS ARE COMPLETELY UNPREDICTABLE. WHILE A TINT THAT AVOIDS USING HARSH CHEMICALS IS USEFUL.... ONE EXPECTS IT TO WORK AS ADVERTISED. APPARENTLY, RESULTS CAN ONLY BE GUARANTEED IF USING THE PRODUCT FOR THE FIRST TIME ON HAIR THAT'S NEVER BEEN COLOURED. SO WHAT GOOD IS IT REALLY! STAY AWAY FROM HERBATINT AND SAVE YOURSELF A MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT. OBVIOUSLY, HERBATINT IS IN IT FOR THE MONEY AND DON'T CARE HOW MANY USERS THEY SCREW!

“I started using Hebatint Flash Fashion Henna Red over...”

★★☆☆☆

written by Suelasue on 23/11/2009

I started using Hebatint Flash Fashion Henna Red over a year ago. I wanted a dye not tested on animals and as natural as possible. After giving this product a good shot I have decided to change to an another natural brand. My hair dresser at an Aveda Salon can't believe this is a 'natural' product because my hair is so dry. She's told me to stop using it but I can't presently afford to have an Aveda colour done every month or so. The dryness is particularly bad after first dyeing or touch-up and as other people have said the amount of colour which washes out for weeks after is unbelievable. I have to keep a separate dark towel for my hair! People throughout this last year have consistently asked me if I've dyed my hair another colour but I tell them it's the same colour but just faded. It goes from a very dark and deep almost purple/red to begin with to a much lighter orange over about a 6 week period. I'm hoping I can find a nicer solution.

Philiprallen's Response to Suelasue's Review

Written on: 28/03/2011

Hi Sue,
The misuse of the word 'natural' is commonplace when referring to hair products. Herbatint contains LESS chemicals than ALL other permanent hair colours. Aveda permanent colours contain AMMONIA (toxic, carcinogenic and extremely damaging to the hair and scalp). Herbatint contains NO AMMONIA. The dryness you refer to is simply because the cuticle has not been closed after colouring your hair. This will also be the reason for the colour fading. If you read the instructions you will see that Herbatint's Cream Conditioner is recommended for use after shampooing off the colour. This will ensure the hairs' cuticles are closed tightly after treating the hair and you will notice an immediate difference in condition and longevity of the colour. If this does not convince you then ask your 'Aveda stylist' to suggest a conditioner with a ph of 3.2 that is moisture-based and NOT protein-based. If they don't understand what you are asking them.......change your stylist as they do not have enough technical knowledge to be passing comment on your hair! Conventional permanent hair colours contain silicones (Aveda included) to simply coat the hair and disguise, temporarily, the damage done by the Ammonia. This, naturally, causes a problem when you start to shampoo your hair and remove this coating which then results in fading and poor condition. Please ask your Aveda stylist to call Herbatint and ask for me by name, Philip Allen. I am always happy to educate those who wish to improve their knowledge of hair colouring. I would also be very happy to speak to you if you call our FREEPHONE Helpline 0800 594 7706 (UK). Hope this helps. With kind regards, Philip

I have been using herbatint for over a year now and am very pleased with the result. I use a mix of 6N and 6D as I have about 60% grey hair over my remaining brunette. My hair grows very quickly, so I have to re-apply to the roots every four weeks or so. I have recommended this to friends and one in particular is extremely pleased with the natural, healthy result.

I am about to start going lighter, so will mix 7N with 6D and over a year or so start to lighten my hair. Unfortunately it is long, so be warned not to keep taking the dye through to the ends as you will get "build up" and the ends will be a different colour.

I tried Herbatint for the first time 3 days ago. I used Light Ash Chestnut (#5C). I just applied it to my roots to cover the grey. My roots are now jet black. I hope this washes out of my hair. I never expected black hair. I will never use this product again.

written by on 27/07/2009

I am allergic to normal otc hair colors, and so I switched to NatureTint. However, NatureTint was not in stock in my color at my local store, so I tried Herbatint. I have heavy grey natural brown hair. I had not dyed it for awhile, and so the color had grown out.

I bought the light chestnut herbatint hair color. I did not shampoo my hair for over 24hours prior to coloring. I followed the directions exactly and came out with jet black hair, and had a severe allergic reaction to the product.

The conditioner that comes with the product smells very strong, and like male aftershave.

I will NEVER use this product again.

Hello there,

I'm getting in touch because I had the same experience, with a big allergic reaction which left me with unbearable itching and bleeding sores for several days. I have since had another allergic reaction to black hair dye, and after researching I found this is due to a chemical called 'PPD', which is in many hair dyes, including the so-called 'natural' Herbatint!!

If you haven't already, I would look into PPD allergies, as some sources suggest it can be quite serious, and that the more times you react, the worse it gets. PPD is illegal in some other European countries! There is some suggestion a PPD allergy can cross-sensitize you to other chemicals too, including PABA's which are often in sunscreen.

One website that has lots on PPD is: http://www.hennapage.com/henna/ppd/index.html

It does sound quite scary on there, and I wasn't sure how much might be them over-dramatising it, so I emailed them, and they said that part of the site is written by a lady whose doctorate research was on PPD. My aunt who's a GP didn't seem so concerned, so now t's hard to know who to listen to, but I think I'm going to stay on the side of caution!

I hope this is helpful for you and that you don't have to go through any more allergic reactions. I'm thinking of taking this up with Herbatint myself, I can't believe they've put something like this in their hair dyes!

All the best

I have been using Herbatint for many years now,and have always been pleased with the natural subtle quality of the colour and feel of my hair afterwards.I was tempted to try one of the commercial brands last year, and was horrified by the chemical reaction to the texture of my hair, and the smell was absolutely appaling - goodness knows the damage they do to the hair structure,I never want to end up with straw for hair, and that is the quickest route to that lifeless effect I imagine!

written by cristohastaenloshuesos on 09/07/2008

Unfortunately when I dyed my hair with Herbatint Herbal Hair Colour it only lasted a couple of weeks before all the color was washed away. I bought the 1N (Ebony black) Permanent Haircolor and it looked great and healthy, however, after washing it I noticed a lot of the color would come out every time I washed it. I thought it was part of the residue the dye had left, but I noticed that my natural hair color (dark brown) was more and more noticeable after every wash. After two weeks most of my hair had returned to my natural hair color. The results were really disappointing!

I have used Herbatint Herbal hair colour on many people who have been unable to cope with any other product. The results have been amazing. On many occasions clients have been delighted by how natural the effect has been. Many of them have remarked that their friends have been completely shocked about how natural the colours have looked.

I did the patch test twice .. no reaction at all .. so went ahead with the colour .. everything was good no smell nice results even though my hair felt terrible dry until the conditioner went on ..
