“Once good, now total shice”

BE sold out their customers to Sky, with the promise of a seamless transfer with no changes. In my case, and seemingly that of numerous other complainants here, that promise has proved to be entirely empty.

“Absolute PANTS Since SKY Buyout”

★☆☆☆☆

written by FecklessWaster on 02/11/2013

I left BT & went to BeThere about 3 years ago due to BT's indifferent service. I used to wholeheartedly recommend Be to friends and family before the SKY buyout as the service was absolutely brilliant, constant speeds, never a drop no matter how many of us were lighting up the router. I am happy to pay a good price for a good service BUT £17.00 per month for 1 meg is just insufferable and the constant drop out of service is appalling ! I can pay £3.00 a month for this level of service.

Exactly the same experience here. Have been a faithful and happy customer of Be for about 6 years. Since the Sky buyout, I constantly have dropouts and trying to just retrieve emails seems to take forever. I will be leaving soon!

“Extrely Bad ISP”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 02/10/2013

I joined Be 7 years ago. It has been average till the last 6 months ago. Now the Advertised 16 MBP is around 0.5 Mbp-Download and 0.35-Upload. I have monitored it for nearly 2 months. 6 calls to Technical support has made no difference. Technical Support only offers Lip service. This bandwidth is provided by ISPs charging only 3.00 pounds per month. I will never recommend Be to anyone.

“Used to be excellent, now terrible”

★☆☆☆☆

written by groovydude on 28/08/2013

I joined BeThere in 2007 and it was totally awesome. But since they sold out to Sky in 2012 its now totally rubbish. The internet suffers from lag, packet loss (5% to 22% in my case), slow to the point of unusable upload speeds, inconsistent up and download speeds, and after 6 weeks of logging a support call to get this fixed, customer support don't have a clue what the problem is. Infact the only thing they are good at is asking you to do more and more tests but not doing anything to solve the problem. Even a lift and shift didn't work. I am now moving to another supplier. I am so dissapointed that this used to be one of the best internet providers, and now they are rubbish. Another "Sky" success story, turning something good into a service you wouldn't pay for.

“Ruined by Sky?”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 09/06/2013

I subscribed to be about 4-5 years ago and all was well; speed was fine, no problems. Then Sky bought them over and suddenly performance dropped through the floor. Timeouts, awful connection speeds, the whole lot. I have no idea if it was down to the Sky buyout or just coincidence, but in any case it's now apallingly bad.

“BE from Brilliant to Useless”

★★☆☆☆

written by Rabberto on 10/04/2013

Have been with BE for nearly 2 years service speeds started out good but have had a lot of dropouts over the second year. They charged me £17 for the value package while offering it cheaper to new customers, when I decided to leave they offered it for £8.50 when I said I wasn't interested and wanted to leave, have had nothing but hassle with them. They want their old router sent back to them or they charge £35 and want a months notice even though I'm out of contract. They keep sending emails that indicate they still retain me as a customer. I had to phone them twice to get my MAC code as they stalled and pretended that I had not asked for it.They are trying to make me phone them again, making out in emails that I have not told them explicitly that I am leaving. I'm sure the Management are leaning very heavily on the customer retention team but I am not very happy with their attitude or customer service.

“Good gone BAD”

They used to provide a very reliable service. Since the buyout by Sky their service is truly awful. I am now suffering constant loss of connection and high ping in the evenings. Once again the customer gets screwed in the name of profit. Be glad to leave what was ONCE a good isp.

Beware extortionate termination charges. They charged used £40s to leave. What a joke. They also over charged us for many months charging using pro rates but only supplying value speeds.

“Truly awful in every respect ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Mazsa on 24/02/2013

I have been with Be for three years started really well previous adsl provider 2mbps be up to 10 Mbps average 8Mbps so great. For a year it remained good 7-8 over last 18 months its been going down progressively now 2mbps and since I have told them that's it its now 1mbps and throughout the dropouts have got worse. They say an upgrade will happen but never does, customer service is awful, so pleased to be leaving. No effort to improve and I know they could be 100% better or as it stands now 900% better as I have had that service. No effort to keep me as a customer. The best bit is they want the router back. A good company turned bad. I'm moving to a fibre service the minimum they will provide is 300% better and it will be cheaper over the next 12 months go figure.

“No longer great”

★★★☆☆

written by deprecated_pleb on 18/02/2013

I've had Be at three different locations spanning multiple years. I was very happy with the quality of the service but, in the last 18 months or so, it's slowly gone down the tubes. The fact is, I used to have a solid ~16MBit download speed. It's now 5Mbit on a good day. Sometimes I can't even stream HD youtube videos; compared to the service Be previously provided, it's a massive step backwards. Similarly, I used to activate the gamer mode and enjoy a ping time of 20 with a line drop once every month or two. I've now had to disable gamer mode and the line drops frequently. Furthermore, web browsing is now a trial at peak times; pages will often 404 and require a refresh. I phoned Be and was informed that the problem was probably on my premises, but I severely doubt it, as it comes and goes. Routing to mainland Europe seems to be patchy, too. A lot of BF3 servers that used to be fine for me (40ms) now ping ~150ms during the early evening. No idea why. My parents were also with Be, but noticed a similar degradation in service levels. When undemanding (very light internet user) parents start complaining about the service quality, Be should know they've got problems. I find their tech support to be pleasant and pretty good in terms of turnaround, but the bottom line is that their service is no longer what it was. This seems to happen with every single ISP I'm with -- I'm as happy as Larry and then a few years later, it's middling to poor.

Wuffles's Response to deprecated_pleb's Review

Written on: 21/02/2013

I am having the same problems. Can't really play games at the moment because my ping is 70-90 higher than is off peak. It's basically not feasible to play games between 5pm and 11pm I'm even getting 3-5% packet loss on UDP games like counter-strike. Once you get to like midnight or something though it's back to how good the service was in the past, 20-25ms ping 25-40 for servers in germany, france, etc, etc. Now I'm pinging 80 to London from Manchester. Gosh

“Used to be good..now awful”

★☆☆☆☆

written by oschonrock on 05/02/2013

Have been with Be since the beginning (5 or 6 years) with their "Pro" Static IP and multiple static IP ADSL packages in 2 or 3 locations at the same time. They used to be great: great speed, knowledgable friendly service... Never had much cause to call them. Moved several of the connections as well. Still currently have 2. One of the connections has been slow between 7 and 11pm for the last 6 months. I enquired, got fob-off lines from support. I enquired again 3 months later because it was getting worse and worse. I spent 1 week with multiple ticket updates and phone calls per day, getting them to take my issue seriously. Doing every test in the book...multiple times. Eventually ended up providing detailed inbound and outbound traceroute logs to them from multiple locations (I happen to work in the industry..). These logs proved they have a congestion issue at exchange (which they had previously denied). They have now acknowledged they have a problem. However, one week later (ie 2 weeks after orginal re-report), no update, no improvement... feels to me like, since O2 bought them, they have (one or more of): - lost the entrepreneurial spririt - had their engineering/support budget cut by their parent company - are being managed into the ground by the ex government department these reasons are just speculation, but this certainly feels like a completely different company to 5 years ago. I recommend: "don't touch them with bargepole" I will be changing soon...

“Was good now terriable”

★☆☆☆☆

written by lostair on 29/01/2013

I think I can give an exact view of Be There ISP services because I took up the service way back on the 16th of January 2007 when the exchange in Glasgow was activated. Be There was a honest, trustworthy and non-desperate company that offered a good value of service. During the 5 years that I was with BeThere I moved flat once and there was no problem, the move was quick, well arranged and free (as you are allowed one free move per year). However with the latest move, it exposed how low they will stoop in their desperate struggle to compete with Mobile Broadband that is sweaping the country. LIES LIES LIES. They stated that I would have to pay £85 to re-activate the telephone line as a BT Engineer would have to visit. I let the sales guy hear the dial tone on the place where I was moving to and point blank refused to accept that the wire in the exchange was connected and said that a £85 charge would be necessary. There is one thing I really dislike about companies is LIES - this is enough to stop my long term business relationship with them. BUT there is something really important to realise here... The speed initially in 2007 was well over a megabyte (8 Megabits), now I am receiving 2 Megabits if I'm lucky (dispite being half a mile closer to the western exchange) - I can now declare their service to be too expensive, lying sales people and Mobile WiFi is the way to go. For £14.99 I can get unlimited internet per month, have it anywhere I go and more important scrap it if they become a problem. ALSO, I'm not forced to buy a telephone line or to subscribe to a 12 month contract! Mobile Wifi will replace the BT Landline! ALSO NOTE: BE THERE Static IPs are not what they seem, they are bogon IP addresses which most ISPs around the world are NOT able to use. AND, O2 dynamic addresses are unable to 'talk' to BeThere static IP addresses - this problem I can confirm still exists and nobody in BeThere seems to give a damn!

“best internet provider I´ve had”

★★★★☆

written by on 21/01/2013

I´ve had several internet providers over the years, but since I moved to my current home I´ve had 3: BT, O2 and BE. And Be is by far the best one of the 3. All the providers I checked offered me the same speed, except for BT,who promised they could magically increase my speed, and I believed them. Big mistake! My download speeds with them were at a maximum of 30kb/s. Then I changed to O2 and suddenly (although BT said nobody could give a better speed than them), my download speed increased to a maximum of 350kb/s, although the speed varied considerably during the day. I am with BE since October and my download speed varies from 400 kb/s to over 500 kb/s consistently during the day. They are also the cheaper of the 3 (I pay £8.50/month, as they usually have half price deals), and I found their costumer service are efficient and they know what they are talking about (unlike BT people who follow a script and you can call them 100 times and they keep telling you to do the same stuff even if it doesn't work.

I agree with everyone. Best ADSL provider I ever had too, by a long way, for many years (I manage many ADSL lines). Even my friend in BT says they are by far the best and most organised LLU compnay to deal with.

Until today (18 May 2013) when my unlimited connection has slowed to 30% of its normal speed according to speedtest.net and there are all of the signs of traffic profiling eveident. Is this what we have to expect from Sky, if so I leaving Be just as quick as I can

I requested a MAC from Be* after being a customer for 3 years, I was told if I didn't use the code that my service would carry on as normal, I never got a MAC code and a few days after my last bill my internet went of, I thought it was just another fault with Be* after about half an hour I rang CS to be told that I'd been disconnected, No MAC no warning, CS told me it would take 7-10 days to reconnect me. Be* are also involved with speculative invoicing search for GEIL or ACS:Law and you will see what Be* have been up to, lots of innocent customers of Be* will be exposed to these crooks so if you are a Be* customer don't be surprised if you get a letter, Be* have been told by the courts to hand over 9,000 names and address's, in a way im glad I got out when I did.

“Dissappointing”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 31/12/2012

I have been a BE customer for going on 8 years, It really is a shame that the likes of BE have fallen into the same realms of other ISPs, they once stood out as a premium provider but now they are slowly slipping by the wayside. Originally I was syncing at 16-17Mb, back when they sold their service as "up to 24MB", I'm Now Lucky if I get to 12Mb, but apparently "There isn't any issues" having just upgraded their network. Buffering content is slow on sites like Muzu or YouTube, pages take ages to load at peak times. Yep, BE you truly have become another Plusnet. The annoying thing with this is that they appear to be completely oblivious or ignorant of the fact and their support staff seemingly have stopped using any sort of intelligence they have had before and now constantly revert to their scripted responses and silly photos of "Master Sockets". This may work for some, but there are a core of technically minded people that they seem to address with the same contempt. Plagued with constant network issues despite their feigned ignorance, slow (undeniable) browsing, reduction in speeds. I would have once recommended, but no more.

These guys were good once, back 5 years ago when I first took up with them, but my internet speed has got gardually slower over the years, although I never did much about it. And then Bethere decided to 'upgrade' their network - what a joke, now I have no internet at all. There support is useless to say the least(it didn't used to be), and in order to get internet back I need to find another ISP, but in order to do so I need a MAC code, for which they, (Bethere), want me to pay a £40 fee! Bearing in mind I have been with them for 5 years, have never missed a payment, they then screw up my connection and want to charge me a £40 fee to get it sorted somewhere else, go figure! I wish Bethere would BeGone. For Good.

“Slow and expensive broadband”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 06/11/2012

I took out a year contract with Be Broadband, after they promised an excellent broadband speed in our area. When the modem arrived the internet was a tenth of the promised speed. We contacted the company and they said wait a few days for it to 'build up' in speed. They then told us we could not cancel the contract even though we had contacted them within the require time and mentioned the speed before hand. After several more hours phoning and emailing they sent a second modem but this still maintained the same slow speed. I had to continue paying them an expensive £34 a month for a rubbish service. When the contract finally ended, I sent the modem back, as stated in the contract, but they still charged me £35, for the modem unwilling to accept I sent it back. All in all it was the worst customer experience I have ever witnessed and the company seems to make you sign on empty promises; never keeping there side of the bargain but making sure I have to stick to mine!
