“Terrible claims process”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Roach373 on 07/02/2024

I have 3 dogs insured with Co-Op. Made a straight forward claim in December 2023 with all paperwork received beginning of Jan 2024. Rang today and told it will be at least another 3 weeks before it is seen by an assessor. I was advised this is due to a shortage of assessors and increase in claims. I was also told this the last claim I made in July 2023 - (which was declined by the way!). The customer service are pleasant and I feel sorry for them having to deal with irate customers. When making a claim they tell you 28 days. It is appalling service and I won’t be renewing with them - hopefully they pay before that ! Do not use.

“ I’ve been with the cooperative for 12 years....”

written by Davesvoice on 21/11/2023

I’ve been with the cooperative for 12 years. Unfortunately my cat, Dave fell ill and had to be euthanised. Having then put in a claim to the co-op. I was declined. This claim was not only for the euthanasia but for the treatment David received up to that point I was informed that because there was over seven years old they would not pay ouIt seems strange to me that often after thousands of pounds over the 12 years with a life that there was a cut-off at seven years, which, after I have paid ever increasing fees. I found this disgusting. I have never claimed before and I would not recommend this company to anybody As a footnote, it took them five weeks to come to this conclusion, and that was after I’d phoned them Over the 12 years, I paid more than £3000 Unfortunately, I have another pet insured with them, but not for much longer Yes, I am aware of that as pets get older they’re more likely to become ill but then again the previous increase I’ve known it was nearly paid £30 a month I found this a very unscrupulous practice.

I think this may be to do with rhe fact they charge you co-insurance after the pet reaches 7. You then have a specific policy which details you pay up to 20% on top of excess. My argument is, if this is the case, why do they continue to take your premium? Noone would pay premium if there was no payout. If they state its in the small print, I would argue that its sharp practice. They should inform customers that no further premiums will be taken once pet reaches 7, unless you move to a 'senior' policy.

I would most certainly contact the Financial Services Ombudsman if you have been refused a payout becos your pet was over 7, if you have been up to date with payments.

“Slow”

written by Williamsre1981 on 29/08/2023

A really simple claim, £340 for an emergency vet visit. I emailed everything over the next day, the vets kept their end of the bargain up following suit by day 7. It's been an entire month now, no word from co-op, no pay out, no way of tracking the claim. I left another provider to come here and I'll be returning to them.

“Don't bother ”

Still waiting weeks later for a simple straightforward claim . Coop insurance love to keep kicking the can down the road. Do yourself a favour avoid coop pet insurance and use a more legit firm instead.

“Do not use for your pets!”

Absolute rubbish pet insurance service. I paid £40+ a month to get only £125 when my dog was pts at emergency vets at over £900 bill. absolute disgrace just because she was over 7!!!! Do not recommend.

“Go elsewhere”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Sawyer115 on 24/01/2023

Have had bad experiences with Co-Op pet insurance from day one. They take months and months to pay out, if they pay out at all, having argued back and forth over the fine print. In the meantime, you need to foot the bill. They frequently had incorrect information, contacted the wrong people, told us misinformation, and generally were difficult to deal with. Do not recommend.

“Go elsewhere even if it costs more”

written by Goingcrazybird on 20/10/2022

My pet was seen by the vet at the begining of September and I am still waiting for any payment from the co-op pet insurers. You get a confirmation email of receipt of the claim which states it may take up to 4 weeks to process. Tomorrow is 4 weeks and after my call today I find it has still not been assessed and it is only day 18 of a 20 working day timescale??? She could not even tell me when I might be paid, bearing in mind the claim hasn't even been assessed yet let alone ready for payment. My claim is relatively small in comparison to some that I can imagine and to be honest with todays economic climate I could do with it being paid. Unless you can afford to wait unconditionaly for payment I wouldn't use this insurer. The whole point of covering your pet for vet fees is so you don't need to worry about the bill is it not?

“Always avoid payment!”

written by Samsung3 on 30/10/2017

Policy since puppy. Had operation for eye entropic on 16/10/17 claimed £470 loved dog aged 9 years. Claim refused on grounds that vet made comment on notes that dog had eye entropic on 7/9/16 aged 8 years when no treatment required. Now 12 months expired and despite no treatment until required, terms and conditions apply! The co op are not bothered about your pet or the clinical decisions of your vet. They will always find a way to refuse your claim. Do NOT even consider, their excess is extortionate, put your money away each month or go elsewhere, love the owner of a gorgeous Spaniel who left it 9 years to long to learn an expensive lesson. Xx

I had the same issue I took out insurance with COOP when Bella was a puppy. She needed to have entropion surgery at 7 months and when I called the insurance company they told me they would cover it. After submitting the form to the vet and the surgery was over, they decided that they wouldn't cover it as I had been to see the vet when she first came to us and the vet had said she may have to have the op but wasn't sure at the time. Furious think CO OP pet insurance is awful

“Co-operative i dont think so?”

★☆☆☆☆

written by paulbu55555 on 29/04/2015

The initial claim was refused. Co-op associated the illness with an earlier 2 years previous illness, therefore implied pre existing condition. They suggested that i get a vets letter and ask for re-assessment A subsequent Vets letter strongly dismissing this association was also then rejected. Got the feeling thy had no intention of paying out

“exclusions”

★☆☆☆☆

written by SharonCastillo on 17/02/2015

put in a claim for bacterial infection in small intestine for my siberian husky took 3 months to pay, then sent me a letter putting numerous exclusions on policy one being as previous person stated for skin infection which she has had 3 times in last eight years exclusions due to being overweight though I cannot see anywhere in policy stating that if your pet is over or under weight exclusions will be applied have cancelled policy. BEWARE BEWARE would not recommend

“They will do all they can to not pay out”

★☆☆☆☆

written by barbo57 on 06/08/2013

I was interested in taking out pet insurance with Co Operative. I filled out the form online and waited for my policy to arrive. It didnt arrive so I telephoned and they told me that there were three exclusions put on the Policy. I asked what these were. They said that because I had put on the form that a few years ago he had an ear infection and had his gland emptied that they had put this as a condition on the policy. They said that a third condition had been mentioned which was a skin infection. I said he had never had a skin infection in his life and I was told that if he got another ear infection then this could lead to a skin infection. I of course told them that I did not want insurance from them as it was obvious that whatever I had to claim for, if I ever did which I have never done so, then they would not pay because they would try and relate it to anything that he had had when he was a baby. DO NOT go with this company BEWARE they will probably NOT pay out for anything but just take your money.
