Hi we have a 5 yr old Dalmatian who has epilepsy which she developed last year. We had only had our policy for 7 weeks before it developed but AF cover the condition and our renewal this year had only slightly increased so we are more than happy with how we are treated by great customer service.

Hi, Usually with all insurance companies any existing complaint at the time you take out a new policy will not be covered. If you are already with an insurance company when a pet develops a new illness then you'll be covered. I hope that helps.
Report this content GingerD Written on: 10/07/2018
If your dog has already been diagnosed with epilepsy I’m sure if this is covered. It might, however, be well worth a phone call to them just to enquire. They are very helpful.

I am not sure what Animal Friends policy is, on pre-existing medical conditions, I am sure if you ask them they would be able to answer. I have always found them very helpful when ~I~'ve either phoned or emailed.

Although they do contact you, I call animals friends just before the policy expires. You should tell them if you require any changes to your cover for the next year. It is well worth having the lifetime cover, which covers any condition you claim for, for life.

I've been with them for a number of years and every time I get an email about a month before renewal with details of the policy and the following years premium. Unless there are any changes dont have to do anything and it continues
Report this content GingerD Written on: 03/01/2017
I pay by direct debit and it is automatically renewed each year. I'm sure they will contact you if you paid the premium all at once too. Hope this helps!
Report this content BSF1962 Written on: 03/01/2017
You should receive an email from them before the renewal date.. If you wish to continue the policy then you won't need to do anything
Report this content flossiesdoll Written on: 03/01/2017
Pretty sure mine just renewed automatically. They do send an email but nothing had changed so I just let it renew.

I am very disappointed in Animal Friends pet insurance. READ THE SMALL PRINT. I feel I have been misled. After taking out a policy with a £20,000 cover for "all eventualities" I now find it is only £2,000 for accident. My cat was hit by a car and was in a Vet Hospital for 2 weeks total bill £6,000. Waste of time using this insurance company. Look elsewhere.

They should contact you about a month prior to your policy expiring, either by post or email. If you haven't had anything, check your spam email box, that's where my email ended up. Alternately you can phone or email them, or log in on their website to update or renew your policy.

Unless over the age of 8, or due to behaviour changes of fiscal changes then I believe they will pay this yes.

They do a policy which covers an illness or condition up to a limit per year. This limit is reset at renewal each year. Hope this helps.
Report this content Tigger47 Written on: 05/01/2016
Our Lifetime policies for pets will also provide cover for veterinary fees you incur if your dog has an accident or falls ill. Lifetime means that any one illness or condition is covered year after year up to a limit per condition that ‘refreshes’ annually upon renewal.
Report this content flossiesdoll Written on: 05/01/2016
I don't know, but their website sets out all the policies very clearly so you should be able to find out easily.

They do yes. Our dog is 16 and is on 2 lifelong medicines. We claim for all his treatment which has been very costly and at renewal the premium only went up £1 a month. They really are very good and pay out promptly. Would definitely recommend them.

Can't give you any differing info from the answers which have already been submitted! You can choose which limit to go for, I'm glad I went for the higher one as my oldie has just had a splenectomy which didn't come cheap, especially with the follow up monitoring.

If you are considering any policy with this Company please check the small print word by word as you could find your claim refused as we did for over £400 ! ( is dental care not covered ) Our pet died and the Company were totally heartless quoting the small print to get out of paying our vet ! With a lifetime policy check if anything is excluded as the pet gets older as that is when expensive vets bills are more likely Also check is there is a yearly claim limit whether it is for one condition or several and what the limit would be each year as the pet gets older Just be very careful with this company as there are many negative reviews

Just read the small print very carefully with this company as there is a lot they have limits on,such as tests and watch their exclusions. We wish we had never left Pet Plan

Life time cover means that if your dog gets an ailment which needs treatment for the rest of his/her life, the policy will pay for it (up to the amount your cover is for) as long as you are still insured with them. You still need to renew your policy annually and will be sent a reminder at renewal time. Just the same as any other insurance eg car, house etc If your pet does develop a "life time" problem, you would have to stay with your insurer because if you tried to move to another insurance company they do not cover any pre-existing conditions. So say your pet developed diabetes - your existing policy will pay for the drugs and treatment but if you then move to another insurer, they will cover him but not for diabetes. This is standard practice. So life time cover is not about the policy but about payment for treatment. I have to admit the concepts are confusing, I was struggling to understand which policy I needed but boy! Am I glad I opted for a policy with lifetime cover. Hth

Agree with MrsGrumpytoo. If you have had a claim you will need to stay with the existing insurance company as a new insurer will either exclude the pre existing condition or load up the premium. If no claims made then shopping around for another insurer could save some money, but the devil you know!

You will receive a renewal pack in advance of each anniversary date which will include your policy document, Key Facts information and Policy Schedule. This will be emailed to you if you have provided your email address otherwise it will be posted.

I agree with MrsGrumpytoo and pip0001. You will still need to renew your policy each year so would get new papers. If you don't make a claim have a look around to see if you can save money.

Cover for dental is, I believe, a common exclusion for all pet insurers. As the previous answer says, damage to teeth due to an accident is a different matter. Check your wording.

Not sure to be honest, my advise to you is to get whatever they say they will cover in writing!

Our dog had an issue with her gum line requiring laser treatment as they were growing over her teeth. Animal NOTFriends wouldn't payout. They said it was cosmetic, even thought the Vet said it was necessary. I told them to stick their policy and promptly cancelled. They also refused to pay for treatment of an ulcer to her eye because she'd had the other eye treated the year before. I argued it was the other eye, but all they kept saying was, "It's bi-lateral".  Please take my advice...Don't insure with A.F.
Report this content theanswer Written on: 18/03/2014
Animal Friends Insurance do not cover routine dental treatment in keeping with the rest of the pet insurance industry. Some of their covers to cover accidental damage to teeth and I would strongly recommend that you contact Animal Friends Insurance direct and discuss your needs with the experts.

Prestige level covers damage due to dental accidents only and then only if your pet has had a health / dental check within 12 months. All other conditions of the teeth and gums are excluded (including mouth tumours!?). All lower policy levels explicitly exclude ALL dental and gum conditions. As Mmullin has stated this is a common exclusion.
