My mother ordered a winged heated (electric) clothes airer. When you order from this company, you have to also pay the postage. When it arrived, she found it so flimsy, it was impossible to use without it falling over. My mum is 93 and needs sturdy items. She needed to return it but there was no collection option by Home Shopping Selections. Obviously, the product, although not heavy at all, is large and unwieldy and is therefore not accepted by the main courier companies. Fortunately, I was able to take the parcel to the post office where they were able to deal with it (at a cost of £9 for the postage).
Younger people use the main online ordering platforms if they can’t get to the shops to purchase items like these, which offer free returns and is generally so much easier. But older people prefer their little catalogues and brochures which offer so-called “must have” items which are often of inferior quality and way more expensive. And if they charge to return, even worse. This company also stipulated that items must be returned within two weeks as well, not giving my mum much chance to find someone to take it to a Post Office.
Elderly people - please avoid companies like these who exploit you and try and find a younger relative or friend who can assist you to use a better value online retailer, where you’ll have the option to return if you are not happy with the goods.
