“McAfee treat customers badly”

Written on: 25/02/2019 by dingding1 (19 reviews written)

With auto renewals at maximum price every year. Never again. They give lawyers a bad name. We should be reviewing the company, not the gazillion products they have, so I chose the topic with the most reviews… Read Full Review

“Like using a condom with a hole in.”

Written on: 16/11/2015 by Bastet2015 (24 reviews written)

I got McAfee with my PC from Dell. I could pay extra in the total cost for 12, 24 or 36 months of 'protection'. I chose one year. For the past few weeks I experienced various issues with my PC. Trusting McAfee, I assumed it was just the programs in question, or driver conflicts, because McAfee always reported that I had 0 security risks. Every scan I did said I was clean. It said real time scanning was on, firewalls were on and the program was up to date. I contacted the developer of a java… Read Full Review

“Stay away from mcafee”

Written on: 06/06/2014 by Dickturpinworeamask (2 reviews written)

Purchased 2014 security pack from currys, when I tried to apply the code to my computer it kept telling me that english language chosen was incorrect? I then contacted the mcafee support centre, who after 1 hour told me they could not load the package unless I purchased a warranty. I returned the pack to currys and was given a refund of £29.99. I have now been online and purchased Norton Security downloaded and applied in 20 minutes and cost only £19.99. Sorry mcafee I will never use or… Read Full Review

“BEWARE. Account robbers.”

Written on: 06/09/2013 by Richard-57 (1 review written)

I found the software worked satisfactorily, but was shocked to get an email a month before my subscription ran out, informing me that they had taken money from my account. I had not told them they could, as I had no idea that such system was in place. It wasn't until I searched their website that I found the 'Auto-renewal' part, which was 'switched on' of course. It is then possible to switch it off, but then it's too late. I have asked them for a refund, I'll see if or how long it takes to… Read Full Review

This sounds only a little bit unfair. When you sign up the following is in, well not so big writing, but it is right next to where you put in the credit card number.

"Our auto-renew feature takes care of renewing your subscription for you. It's a great way for you and your family to enjoy uninterrupted protection. We'll use the payment information we have on file to renew your account, and we'll charge you the rate that's current on your renewal date. You'll receive an email four weeks before your renewal date so you'll always know what's going on with your subscription. Don't want to auto-renew? You can turn it off from your My Account page."

“Avoid at all costs- total cowboys”

Written on: 17/02/2013 by Magna80 (2 reviews written)

I have just checked my bank account and found Mcaffee have taken over £54 out of my account for a renewal without giving me any warning- I had no plans whatsoever to renew the subscription and it seems when i checled my account that they've conveniently adjusted my setting to 'auto renew'. you can buy the same anti virus software for about £25 new so £54 is just a rip off. Massively underhand rip off tactics by this company, and to make matters worse their average waiting time to speak to… Read Full Review

“dreadful "service"”

Written on: 20/09/2012

I paid for the antivirus programme but it would not download. I tried the "help" option but it was anything but. I did manage to send them an email which 3 weeks later, has not been replied to. I then tried to cancel my order and get a refund. The site makes this virtually impossible to do. It sends you round in circles. There is no simple way to send them an email. As to phoning it is a premium number for which they tell you there is a 10 to 30 minute wait. I have sent them 5 emails to… Read Full Review

“Daily requests for refund ignored.”

Written on: 27/08/2012 by Fedupoftryingtosubmit (1 review written)

I have purchased Total Protection for 3 computers. This is different from my previous item from McAfee which worked well. Total Protection has blocked my iplayer and blocks several things that I have tried to download. It also takes a long time to scan - after 3 hours it had found no problems but was only 20% complete but had slowed down my work considerably. Within the 30 day period allowed I tried to cancel it and have a refund. I followed the instructions given daily and sent emails daily… Read Full Review

“Identifies problems but doesn't fix them”

Written on: 09/08/2012 by Disgruntledmcafeeuser (1 review written)

I purchased Total protection. Following one scan it identified 13 Trojans. I ran the scan again and was assured by "Your computer is secure". I then found that several sites that I use were popping up with odd messages requesting bank details. It appears that the Trojans are still on my machine and active. I have had to use other software to identify and fix the problem… Read Full Review

“faulty product but Mcafee do not do refunds”

Written on: 03/08/2012

My husband purchased Mcafee internet security 2012 for 3 computers and tried to install it on his computer. It wouldn't install so he phoned Mcafee customer service who tried their best but had to escalate it to the point where the advisor said that my husband needed to completely remove his browser and various other files, and then reinstall them. This went on for weeks but Mcafee wouldn't download. When my existing mcafee protection expired I tried to use the one my husband had bought… Read Full Review

“Could not download”

Written on: 09/07/2012

I bought the McAfee Internet Security 2012 but after 7 hours of trying it would not download. I contacted McAfee technicians who spent a further 16 hours in total over three days. They could not download nor could they find a reason why. It just kept coming up with the message ''Installation unsuccessful, retry''. I had an unprotected computer for 8 days before giving in and buying another product. This downloaded perfectly with no problems whatsoever. In fairness, I have used McAfee… Read Full Review

“McAfee Doesn't Install”

Written on: 07/04/2012 by GreenBilbo (1 review written)

I have a Dell machine which came with McAfee pre-installed. When it came to apply for another year I did so, but despite paying the money, the Virus protection stopped and failed to start up as it used to when the renewal date expired. I have since bought it again for £29.99 but it failed to install with a simple message saying 'Failed to install, try installing again'. After seven hours of scouring the internet for solutions I decided to treat it as a bad joke that cost £30. I downloaded AVG… Read Full Review

Gerrynix's Response to GreenBilbo's Review

Written on: 21/05/2012

Clam Win was the best for me - and I downloaded it for free, from the internet. This - when all the others, including McAfree, are telling me that my PC is clean and safe to use - detected 120 infected 135-dialers on my computer, plus one Trojan, and one W42 virus; all residual of a recent hacker attack, which installed itself into my system, and obviously is still there. My experience with McAfee is very disappointing; enough to prompt me to remark:
Barnham was right: *There's One Born Every Minute !*
Thanks McAfee, for a £29.99 sphere of useless plastic that has done nothing except slow my PC down to snail-pace, so that
now it takes me 20 seconds to download each picture from the internet. I intend to seek a refund, otherwise my complaint will go to the BBC TV consumer show *Watchdog*, and for sure.

Gerrynix's Response to GreenBilbo's Review

Written on: 19/05/2012

I've just download McAfee, for £29.99, but I had to shut down in the middle, because it stopped and was interfering with my broadband connection. The thief-proof software went through the motions of installing, but didn't, and now I don't know how to download it again.
This, like AVG said there were no threats on my computer, yet Clam Win free unearthed one W32 virus, plus 120 virus infected 135-dialers which their quaranteened; this costing nothing. Sadly, I could not find an authentic trustworthy supplier for Clam Win, so I went to McAfee, who - surprise, surprise, who one hour after running Clam Win, and getting those virus reports, McAffee reckons my PC hais possessive of no infections whatsoever. So who is right, and who has paid £29.99, only to be assured *your computer is
protected and clean* Hmmmm
