I went to 42nd Street Photo (378 5th Avenue, Between 35th & 36th Street, New York, NY 10018) because the prices on their website (http://www.42photo.com/) were very attractive for a camera and lens I wanted to buy (Nikon D5300 + zoom). First, when I arrived, I discovered that the price was higher in the shop than the price I had seen a few hours before on their website, although the site was not saying that prices were higher in the shop. The seller showed me the shop webpage on his computer and, indeed, the price was higher than what I had seen. I thought I had made a mistake but after checking again, I now think that he was browsing an internal website with different prices: completely illegal! Second, the seller proposed me to buy a better lens than the one I wanted to buy, presented as really better but with a higher price, for which he wanted to give me a good discount. I resisted during 10 minutes and tried to keep with my initial choice. He insisted so much and lowered the price several times that I finally accepted. Later on, after I had left the shop, I discovered on the Internet that the lens he sold me was $300 cheaper than the one I wanted to buy, although he told me that it was $300 more expensive. With the "wonderful" discount of $250, it meant that he robbed me $350. Third, he gave me the camera without the original box and, when I said I wanted to pay with my credit card, he insisted for me to pay part in cash. Both elements suggest a not very clean business. Fourth, he insisted to sell me a very expensive memory card, which I succeeded in resisting. He told me that the camera I had brought was working only with the most expensive memory cards. Afterwards, I discovered that this was completely wrong and that the price he proposed for this memory card was twice the normal price. If I had accepted, I would have lost another $100. He also tried to sell me cases and filters at 5 times the normal price! The guys in this shop are like sharks. If you go there, stick to your plan and don't listen to any advice they give you. Don’t buy more products or different products than what you thought when you entered the shop. I went to that shop especially for their good prices and I ended paying much more than in any online shop.
