“Very dissappointing”

★★★☆☆

written by on 18/05/2012

We went on a lunch/aftenoon tea Groupon purchase £38 value, and were very dissappointed. We were greeted by a very pleasant waitress. The decor was good but lacking a little in character. The dissapointment for us was the quality of the food considering the £38 value lunch/afternoon tea.
The chips we think were frozen and undercooked. The breads for the small sandwiches were of average quality as were the fillings. The scones were the best of the cakes but squirty cream instead of clotted cream or double cream! The food was supposed to be locally sourced but we felt it was more of a 'supermarket' quality! We thought we would try this new cafe as it looked reasonable on their website and have tried several other cafes/restaurants in the town. I'm afraid we will not be going again and would not recommend to anyone based on our experience today.

Thank you for taking the time to write us a review about our restaurant. Our customers' feedback is very important to us and we always strive to use the feedback we receive and improve the product/service we offer. The afternoon tea which you had (which was for sale on Groupon for £15 for two - i.e. £7.50/head) included a glass of bubbly each, a selection of sandwiches which were served with chips and salad. To finish we serve a selection of our home made cakes and a scone each. We are sorry to hear you thought our fillings were of average quality. They included salmon and cream cheese, brie and grapes, German salami and roast peppers and ham and piccalilli. Of course we cannot buy all these products locally but they were the best we could buy. The breads are bought from a local baker. The cakes are baked by us using good quality local flour. The cream we serve with our scones is double cream whipped by us and then piped into small ramekins because presentation is very important to us . . . we are sorry you thought our cream was squirty cream. There is no sign of squirty cream or other processed food on our premises and if you had asked us whilst you were having your afternoon tea about it we would have explained. Personally, we find squirty cream tastes quite different to proper cream, so we are a little surprised that you were unable to notice this. Again, we are sorry that you did not enjoy your first visit to our restaurant, and hope that we will be able to persuade you to try us again in the future.
