The Citroen Bx Gti 16v Was A Funny Car. I Had It W
The Citroen BX GTi 16V was a funny car. I had it while my Rover 216 was having a new head fitted from a CRX. I drive into this petrol station near where I used to go to school, see one of my high school sweethearts, open the door, and it falls off onto the forecourt! Sums this car up..
I had a white citroen bx 16v in 1996 & although i didnt i didnt keep it that long(i never used to keep cars for more than 6-12 months)i will never forget it as it was a great car!It was very quick for a big car(160bhp) & so comfortable too!It handled very well & was really nice to drive. It had very comdfortable seats front & rear & a very big boot too.Even tho these are old cars now & look well not to everyones taste i would def have another one if a good one came along. The only thing that would put me off nowadays is how much it would cost to run on petrol & to tax!My last car was a xsara coupe vts(167 bhp)that i loved but it was just costing me way too much to run on petrol(about £60-£70 per week!)plus too much to tax too at £260 per year!I now drive a turbo diesel that cost's me about £35-£40 per week on diesel & only £130 per year on tax.

1987 To 1993 Lightweight 5 Door Hatchback, W
1987 to 1993
Lightweight 5 door hatchback, with 160hp, hyropneumatic suspension, ABS and 30mpg.
60 mph in 7.5 seconds and 134 mph top speed.
Great drivers car but rather noisy on long motorway journeys.
Usual medium hatchback practicality and its lack of boy racer image means it doesn't get attention from thieves or the police.
These cars sell for <£500 now, a good one is a real bargain but a bad one will cost you plenty. For home mechanics only.
Visit the excellent web sites www.bx16v.com/
and the BX homepage.
i've got a BX 16V too, and i'm really happy to have one. when you lower the car, there are just a few cars that can match its cornering. my 16V has been chipped (rev limit set too 8000 rpm), head and inlet has been flowed, custom made exhaust and cold air intake, short ratio gearbox and produces 200 Hp. when you put the pedal to the metal, it's like saturn-5 going to the moon.
it's way faster as a BMW 325, and also a Subaru Impreza has a lot of problems stay ahead.
i'm working now to put a Garret T3 turbo on my 16V.
for me, this is the ultimate ride :)

LOL I stumbled across this review and saw the picture of my own car! I took the picture last summer and placed it on the web I guess somebody found it :D
However I really love this car though it is quite expensive to maintain but in the end it is worth it when you drop the pedal and the engine slams you back in the seat I just had it tested and the engine has 170.000km still developes 170Bhp only modification is a high airflow intake filter
On a 1/4 mile I can easily take a bmw 325i from 1990

Family have forced into 4 doors again hence the BX 16 valve was an obvious choice as cheap here too if you can find a good one. I've paid the approx 700 pounds ($2500 Kiwi dollars). I've found the low geared gearbox makes the car quite noisey at around 80mph plus. Changing into 3rd gear at 50mph a little painful (6000rpm). otherwise seems to be a bargin. Reaches 110mph v quickly. Won't match an 8v Porche 944 though (my last car). R.
'Corners'
They go around corners like they're on rails!!!
Maybe yours was broken or either you couldn't drive it properly!!!
Having owned 2 BX 16valves, I agree with Mike. For their time they were very quick in a straight line (although not so hot around corners), quicker than almost all rivals and, as Mike points out, very few people knew exactly what they were (as almost all BXs seemed to be diesels), so great fun embarrassing XR3 drivers etc! Also, very well equiped for their time, too (e.g. disk brakes all round, alloys, ABS, remote locking, elec sunroof, elec windows (x4) all standard equipment). I loved both of mine, and both had done well over 100,000 miles (mostly trouble-free) by the time I sold them.
