Mercedes 220 Cdi Classic 125 Edition Blue Efficiency
Mercedes celebrates its 125th anniversary in 2011. To mark this milestone they have issued a special edition of some of their models, equipping them with a variety of goodies which would normally cost extra - principally their Command system incorporating hands free telephony, voice commands and satnav.
I previously had a 1955 Mercedes C220 CDI so I was interested to see what improvements have been made. Let me say at once that it is a much better car.
There is striking improvement in m.p.g. despite improved performance and emissions have been reduced sufficiently to qualify for nil road tax the first year and £95 p.a. subsequently.
The car is a little bigger than my 1955 version and feels like a bigger car. Suspension is smooth and handling good. The seven speed auto transmission is so discrete that gear changes are imperceptible. The stop/start system is a little disconcerting at first as it makes you think that the car has stalled when you stop. However you quickly get used to this.
I have found the car ideal on long trips due to the quiet smooth ride. The satnav is efficient. The command system requires quite a lot of studying of the manual to get the best out of it.
I am very happy with the car and expect to keep it for several years.

Mercedes C Class 220 Cdi Classic Is Not Worth The
Mercedes C Class 220 CDi Classic is Not worth the price tag, Awful handling, particularly in the wet but Crusie control and limiter good for long journys or those with heavy right foot!
Agree an appalling car in every respect and rightly rated at the bottom of its class. Mercedes have lost their way in manufacture-the cause of its significant loss of sales in USA where purchasers look to quality and NOT the badge unlike Europe.
