Took out car insurance recently and was asked to contact to check some of the information I provided. I called and went over the questions. When finished I asked how I would send documents such as NCB and was told by the agent anything they will need, I should receive an email or could be done through my online account once activated. I was checking emails related to sending supporting documents and online account activation for some time and the only emails I received from them were about how to make a claim in case of an accident and sign my credit agreement. The online always remained “Your policies are being processed.” And no way to upload any documents or no email contacts from them with the request via email as advised. Now I receive an email from them saying my insurance is being cancelled for Non-receipt of documents, Proof of garage! WHAT? This is horrible! and to give the wrong information, gets you stress and trouble! I would say stay away from this company even if you find them cheaper when comparing and save yourself a hassle like mine!! Very dodgy!! UPDATE: Do NOT fall for the reply for bad comments pretending to be helpful. I still stand by my first review. If anything they made it even worse! wish I can give no stars cause they don't deserve one star! They will still find an excuse to cancel your insurance and take a big cancellation fee and if you want other payment refunds make sure you are prepared for being stressed and depressed for being ignored. this is the first time I regretted not reading reviews before signing up with this company and I would not advise it for an enemy. I wrote my review on Trustpilot and it was reported for being "fake" even though I provided the policy number and was removed until I had to send a letter and email correspondence with them and it took so many days to put the review back. I guess that was their aim to discourage and have the bad reviews off for those who won't bother to take the time to have the reviews put back. I wish there was no star option.

Back in August, I took out a policy with Grove & Dean for car insurance. I thought all was well until I had numerous emails asking me to telephone them about my policy, which I tried to do many times but could never get through. I then had an email saying that policy would be cancelled on August 19th due to no payment. I telephoned yet again finally getting to speak to someone. They took details down to confirm who I was and I was told that my policy was cancelled. I then took out insurance through LV, at a higher price than Grove & Dean. End of the natter….or so I thought. December, I start getting emails from Grove & Dean saying that I owe them money and if I did not pay, then my car insurance would be cancelled?!? After telephoning them, they informed me that my policy was still "live" and had never been cancelled. I've now been told that if I don't pay within seven days, it goes to their debt collecting agency! Thank you for ruining me and my family's Christmas now with the worry of this over my head! I've been driving since 1986 with a clean licence and have never had had any issues with insurance until i unfortunately got involved with Grive & Dean! Avoid at all costs!

Avoid like the plague...will ring you to "re-adjust" your policy fee before it commences by up to 70% and then charge you £55 to cancel...BEFORE IT EVEN STARTS! extraordinary. No cooling off period, nothing. Surprised this is even legal.

Under no circumstances have your breakdown cover with this outfit. Have to navigate through a series of options after ringing the 'emergency' No, along with having to listen to chapter and verse of their legal policies. Astonishingly you then have to submit your urgent request for assistance via a web site! That's great when you've a broken down vehicle sitting in a live lane of a motorway, just great. Avoid, just pay a extra few quid with a professional company that do actually provide an emergency number and service.

Taken through confused.com .You have to contact them before the policy is issued which is strange. I didn’t like the attitude of the agent and decided to cancel. Although the policy hadn’t started he still charged me £35 and said I wasn’t entitled to 14 days cooling off period without being charged a fee. He was quite aggressive with me.

I wouldn't even give this company 1 star how is this company not shut down charging people £55 cancellation fees including my self , I found the best price through compair the market and went through this company, they wanted to call me which I have never done in 19 years of doing insurance online , they changed the goal posts and were going to charge me an extra £140 so I said no cancel, and was charged £55 this was within 5 minutes of taking out insurance plus my insurance didn't start until another half a month how can they do this to people in these times

I selected and paid for a home insurance policy with Grove & Dean via a comparison site. Within a couple of minutes, a staff member called to go through the details. Concerning lodgers, I confirmed that I often have a lodger (as included in my details), but explained that at this precise moment in time, I am between lodgers. Because I currently don't have a lodger in situ, the price increased by around £200! Obviously, I opted not to proceed. This was in fact a different policy (this company is a broker, not an insurance company). For this, I was charged a £35 cancellation fee - for a product I had selected five minutes earlier, in good faith, until Grove & Dean moved the goal posts. I am disgusted and upset at this approach, fleecing customers at a difficult time when people are struggling during the pandemic. Another staff member then called me, and I requested that he register a note of my upset at this situation. This man barked at me, barely taking a breath, in a rude, condescending, aggressive, patronising and obnoxious manner. Shaken up by this aggressive encounter, I retreated. However, I am now warning friends, family and social media followers to avoid this horrible company, which misleads customers to take money and employs obnoxious staff. As a freelance magazine journalist working on consumer/homes titles and newspaper supplements, I will also be looking out for opportunities to publicise the way this company treats people.

Unfortunately didn't check this site first. Changed terms of my policy at checkout..i assumed I would have right to cancel within 14 days, cancelled it same day and got charged £55. Didn't acknowledge my complaint. No help from them whatsoever.

As you can see from other people's experiences they are awful. I had to cancel my insurance policy and had four months still left and they were not able to give me a refund. Don't be fooled by their lower premium as you will end up paying more in admin costs and cancellation costs.

This is a company posing as an insurance company. Yhey cancelled my insurance 2 days after paying the initial premiums of £195 and they took off £55 cancellation fee even before the 14 days cooling period. Worse still 2 months down the line they been sending me emails that they set-up a premium credit agreement to be paying my insurance and worse I just noted the took 2 direct debits of £116 on same day 2 months after the initial policy was cancelled

grove and Dean have charged me £55 for a policy that was not even issued and are now saying that it will take 8 weeks for them to review the case. DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY there are plenty of far better and reliable companies out there.

This lot really are the Ryanair of insurance, £55 cancellation charge because they put the price up even if you are within the 14 day cooling off period. You buy a policy from them through compare the market.com, only after you've paid do they tell you that you now have to ring them to validate it. ( What's the point of doing it online if you then need to ring them). So you then ring them, eventually they answer, you now have to go through all the questions you filled in online but now you've paid you have no choice so you go through them. Then they tell you an answer you gave was not correct and they need to requote you. The quote rises from £220 to £780...totally ridiculous. Obviously you're not going to continue so asked to cancel, yes you can cancel but there's a £55 admin charge.

grove and dean are brokers that concentrate on finding ways charge you for admin fees or premium increases. we were sucked in by the cheap quote and paid in full only to get phone call to say there is a problem with the policy. We did not declare a non fault accident from four years ago. No to worry we thought its a non fault accident from four years ago, that won't affect anything. Grove and Dean say this costs £76????? Ask to cancel than thats £55. So not had the policy for half an hour or so and have the choice of paying money or loosing money. Anyway after a bit of negotiating we continue with the policy. Then we get emails claiming we are going to cancel your policy due to not providing NCB proof. Well, we did. The issue was simple, we got married last year and the name was different. Problem solved surely. No, they find another error this time, we were a 9 months out of the purchase date of the car. This racked up a £96 additional charges. This all comes about because they do not trust their customers and ask for a lot of proof. We were asked to provide a copy of our marriage certificate at one point.!!! At this point relations between the two parties are not in a good place. We decided to cancel. A policy that was originally quoted at £220 rose to £290 and been promised a refund of £240 we think we have done well. Looking at other peoples experiences and reviews others have been deeper out of pocket . They treat you with no care and have an almost arrogant pride in what they do. Pay a little extra and go with a well reviewed company to save you from the unnecessary stress and hidden costs.

Avoid this company they are very sneaky and underhanded, avoid them, worth paying a little extra for the peace if mind that you are not getting badly treated and are covered.

MONEY GRABBING THEY WILL CANCEL YOUR POLICY IF THEY FEEL LIKE IT AND YOU LOOSE MOST OF WHAT YOU ARE OWED STAY WELL CLEAR.

If you ever try and call Grove and Dean (or Performance Direct as they are also known as) expect to be on hold for a long, long time. Seemingly the only line they answer is the one for new business. If you do manage to get through to one of their less than polite customer service agent just don't dare to cancel a policy because you will pay extortionate cancellation charges and won't receive any refund due to you for a long, long time. Avoid them at all costs!
