Paws Pet Insurance Sucks!

What a sham! My opinion is their goal is to NOT pay you for anything. Looking for pet insurance? DO not bother with this circus act.

Everyone has to be guided. A lot of scammers are out there taking money from innocent traders. I was a victim to this scam crypto broker that made me lose my hard earned funds. I reported to dorisashley71 at gmail com and she was able to fight back for my funds now I have my funds fully recovered You can as well write to their support team.

Reading The Small Print Doesn't Help

We took our cat to the vet as she seemed to be permanently tired.

The vet did some tests:

Diabetes

Cystitus

Kidneys

After the tests were completed we were advised that it would be humane to have her put down.

The total bill was £924.(a different issue)

Instead of being charged the £175 excess and 30% of the remainder, as was our understanding, we were charged the excess for each test. The total being £510 plus the 30% which together came to £634.

They contributed £290 towards a bill of nearly £1000 via a policy that we had already contributed in excess of £3400 in monthly payments.

I am taking them to court over the "excess" issue.

Another point is that we simply continued the insurance that was used by the RSPCA, from where we got our cat. I would have expected them to use a reputable company and not a bunch of con-men.

Do Not Use This Company

We got our dog from the RSPCA in December 1999 with 3 months free insurance with this company. We carried on with the insurance (even though it changed underwriters and the cost went up enormously) until our pet's death in November 2011. She had been ill and we had submitted our claim. They were always late paying, and almost always disputed part or all of the claim. After our beloved dog died, they only paid part of the claim and said that because the insurance renewal had happened in October, they had already paid out the previous month for part of the illness and that we could not claim after the renewal date as this was a new claim (???) They did pay part of the claim, but we will have to pay over £30 per moth until October 2012 as they say this is part of the insurance agreement. I wrote to the financial ombudsman, only to be told that there is nothing they can do, as the company is underwritten by a Danish company, so I am sending the data to the Danish Ombudsmen and am awaiting a reply. I have also written to BBC Watchdog and await a reply from them.

+1. Also got this insurance via contact with the RSPCA in c. 1999. They class claims that span renewal dates as new claims - so if your dog requires 12 months treatment, then unless that starts on a renewal date, you have two claims to make - and lose two excesses, in our case £170 x 2 for an older dog.

This is not made at all obvious, but after cross checking the small print in different parts of their documentation, that is the case. When I say you have to cross check different parts of the documentation, I mean exactly that - you could not be reasonably expected to work this out via simply scanning their documentation.

I complained that this did not amount to treating the customer fairly, which they did not accept and they referred me to the UK Ombudsman. This wasted my time, as indeed they have Danish underwriters. At this point I gave up - appealing to the Danish Ombudsman costs money, and I was not sure how the Danish Ombudsman treats the concept of "treating the customer fairly". I've cut my losses, but will not ever use this company again.

The other serious issue I have found with pet insurance is that many/most companies will not insure pre-existing conditions even if they are not known about when taking out insurance. As such you effectively become locked in to one provider, who can (and do) hike their premiums massively as the dog gets older. I would expect some increase for older dogs, but not to the extent I have had - unfortunately they know full well that you are unlikely to risk moving insurer given that any existing conditions will be not covered, including any you have yet to discover.

In future, I think a savings account over the dogs lifetime may be much more effective.

Avoid This Company!!!!!

I had my cat and two dogs insured with this company. I cancelled the dogs policy and moved to Petplan a few years ago and how I wish I had cancelled the cats too!!! when he reached ten years of age they wrote and advised they were doubling the amount of the cost of the policy. I wrote and complained and they advised that it was due to vets bills increasing and the problem of getting the policy under written. They enclosed their cancellation procedure should I wish to cancel..

This year, now that that the cat has now reached 14 years of age, they wrote and said that they would have to cancel the policy as they could no longer get anyone to under write it?

I have spoken to Petplan and Argos and strangely they manage to get all their policies underwritten for older pets???

I would not reccomend this company.

Had Been Insured Through Paws For 12 Years, Curren

Had been insured through Paws for 12 years, currently paying £26 / month for pet insurance.

When we finally made our first claim of >£300 we got back a grand total of £84 (after promptimg them 3 weeks after the claim was sent), due to the massive exesses. On top of that if I cancel the policy now we would have to pay the remainder of the years insurance as one payment, absolute RUBBISH!!.

Would be better putting the money in a savings account.

Absolutely Appalling. I Informed That My Cat Had D

Absolutely appalling. I informed that my cat had died in December 2009 and also in September 2010 when they sent me a renewal notice. I have just been sent a Direct Debit notification from Pin Finance regarding my renewal.I have just checked my bank account and seen that they have claimed nearly £350 erroneously to cover a dead cat which I am obviously taking further. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY THEY ARE AT BEST INCOMPETANT

Paws pet insurance..

Terrible service.. They changed their direct debit collection over to PIN Finance. They made an error and didnt collect our payment.. Unfortunately we didn't notice for 2 months until we got a letter stating that since we hadn't paid then they cancelled our insurance. We explained it was their error not ours - offered to pay in full but they said we would need to set up a new policy as the old one was terminated and since our cat was 16 it was nearly treble what it cost before and they wouldnt cover him for the treatment he had already started. They are a terrible company and I didn't battle them as I decided any insurance they offered wasn't worth having. They charge a £200 excess plus 20-30% of remaining bill depending on age of animal. Truly extortionate and in the end they did me a favour as what it cost me a month actually worked out less than my cats bill..

Avoid them like the plague..!!

Submitted Claim In Late October, Did Not Hear Back

Submitted claim in late October, did not hear back until January with a rejection that clearly was unwarranted with the paperwork submitted. Resubmitted per instructions and it was not until the claim was reported to the BBB in March when they finally paid. This company is not to be trusted. They want your money, but do not care to cover legitimate expenses. Our claim was for emergency services within 24 hours of receiving our puppy- ridiculous!
