Fair Deal Turned Bad
Took out a good deal with AutoTrader Insurance for my old Mazda 323 in March 2011.
My family and I drove a couple of hundred miles away to look at another car, but ended up buying it, rather than take another couple of days off to get it.
Whilst at the new car, a Mazda5, in January 2012, phoned Autotrader the new car (Mazda5) details and was going to take out new insurance onthe 5. but they WOULD NOT INSURE HIM.Too much money they said.
Before my husband OR I could drive the car back home (I was only insured to drive the 323) I had to get the car insured, so got AutoTrader to cover my husband on the 323, he drove that home whilst I was covered alone, on the 5.
We got home and I was determined to find a cheaper quote for me and hubby on the 5.so when I got home, I got on the net and found DIAMOND, took that out, then cancelled 20 mins later at no extra charge because I realised husband was not on the insurance, then found OCTAGON/CREATION was a cheaper deal, cancelled that a day or two later when seeing I was the only one on the insurance, then found TESCO!Stayed with them as they insured me and hubby for the 5 at a very good price. Al I had to do was send them the Proof of No Claims to be sure I kept the best price for the insurance.
So I cancelled the AUTOTRADER INSURANCE BY LETTER as instructed, POSTED BACK THE CERTIFICATE.
Here is the crunch. AUTO TRADER STATED THEY WOULD NOT SUPPLY PROOF OF NO CLAIMS (even though I was previously insured with them for the 323 for several months, almost a year) BECAUSE I HAD NOT BEEN WITH THEM FOR A FULL TWELVE MONTHS. Where on the paperwork does it state that? So I am telephoning the Financial Ombudsman Sat 17th March 2012 for info.

Penalised For Being An Existing Loyal Customer
I renewed my insurance with Autotrader as I had received good service the year before and a competitive renewal. I however, 6 months into my policy changed my car. I was informed that my new policy would be £661.83 (£170 more than other insurance companies were offering) this was over 12 months and as there was 6 months to run my monthly payments would go from £25.59 to £62.66. I explained that this was not a competitive quote and was told they copuld not move on the price. I asked how much it would cost me to cancel my policy and was informed that as my policy had been worked out over 12 months and I had signed a contract if I cancelled I had to pay the £35 cancellation charge( I have no issue with this) and a payment of £80.39 (short term rates) for leaving early. So I had to pay £115.39 just to get rid of them. I had no option but to renew and then they charged me a £20 administration fee!
I went online and put all mine and my new cars details into their website and was quoted £499.83 when I telephoned and asked why I could not have this quote I was told it was subject to both a new customer discount and also a web discount. This leads me to think that I am basically being penalised for being an existing loyal customer!!!
I am currently writing to the head of customer service and the MD of Autotrader Insurance and also the Insurance Ombudsman

What I Thought Was A Good Quote Has Backfired. Th
What I thought was a good quote has backfired. They are really expensive, to add on to the cost I recently moved and because I was tied into a 12 month contract I have had to pay almost double on my insurance. I moved to London so was expecting a higher payment but was most annoyed when I then checked with other insurers and realised that I would have paid the same amount with others. Do not use Auto trader, there are much better insurers out there!

my current premium is £250 per year, when I added my partner, 26 with her own car and 3 years driving exp, they more than doubled the premium to over £550, didn't even say sorry at the hike.
checked online and found numerous other quotes for less than £250 and out of the 68 quotes received 66 were over £200 lower than Autotrader, wont be renewing

Absolutely Shocking Service - My Car Was Stolen, A
Absolutely shocking service - my car was stolen, and then burned out. When it was found, I contacted Autotrader who said they will contact recovery people, and decide to write car off or not. It turns out they did not contact recovery people, I did not realise this until I got a letter from the recovery people with a large fee for the car still being stored with them. I phoned recovery people, apparently Autotrader had not contacted them, so I called Autotrader who initially said they had NO record of me contacting them. Later they said they did have record of me informing them. I had initially decided not to claim as car was old and my No Claims Bonus will be worth more than car. Due to Autotrades's incompetence at not contacting the recovery people, the fee at the recovery place was very high and Autotrader refused to pay this, despite it being their fault. Autotrader then refused for over a year to release my no claims bonus due to the fee for the recovery and storage of car. Everytime I phoned up to try and sort this out as I needed my proof of no claims for new insurance - autotrader agreed and said it would be sent out. It was not. This went on for over a year - I was passed between pillar and post, Autotrader blaming their underwriters, Sabre and vice versa - for not sending out my no claims certificate. Absolutely despicable customer service from both companies and a lack of autonomous working. In the end I reported them to the FSA. I would stay well away, from anything to do with Autotrader or Sabre - make sure that your policy is not underwritten by them! It has completely put me off cheap insurers, for the amount of time I wasted sorting this out, and being unable to afford being insured for the year with 0 years no claims whilst attempting to obtain my certificate makes paying a more for better service seem a much better option.

AUTO TRADER CAR INSURANCE 12 feb 2010....took out insurance with autotrader on line .it was only very slightly cheaper than my previous renewal quote. As i didn,t send my no claims proof on to them within 14 days they automatically upped the premium from 260 pounds to 900 pounds.Wrote to my bank who told me they could not cancel the payment. After a lot of hastle and great expense have recovered all but 70 pounds of the money. They exploit all the loopholes and are bordering on criminal.Do not ever use them. The service is shoddy and I don,t think they will be in business much longer if my experience was anything to go by.

Thieves. Changed Car And They Quoted Way Way Above
Thieves. Changed car and they quoted way way above the price that Fordinsure quoted who are notoriously expensive (and higher quality I might add). When I said I would cancel they charged me £70, £35 cancellation fee and £35 penalty from the underwriters (?). Dont touch with a barge pole. I am still waiting for confirmation of the penalty fee as Fordinsure said they would reimburse me £50 towards it. I would have given no stars if there was an option to!

Autotrader Car Insurance I'm Incensed That Th
Autotrader car insurance
I'm incensed that this car company auto-renews. The reason I dropped M&S is because they auto-renewed. This time, more aware, I specifically told Autotrader I didn't want to autorenew in a year, but they did it anyway, annd denied I'd ever told them not to (I don't have the luxury of a recorded system to prove otherwise).
Then they tell you if you cancel (on same day they have decided to force you to buy their product) there will be a penalty. They also automatically take the money from your account. I happened to have changed banks in the meantime, as well as no longer having the car anyway; this didn't stop the threatening letters coming. I told them I'll see them in court, perhaps I'll manage to persuade the judge about this thievery and have it more publicised. They decided to drop it at this point - as I'm sure most of the other companies would.
Moral of the tale: don't let them try and force you to take out an expensive renewal. You may be able to get your money back (if they've taken it) via the direct debit guarantee scheme. Good luck!
