Absolutely shocking insurance was on the wrong policy sold by them for 4 years, then tried to claim on an accident and the problems started, left for a new insurance policy and have nothing but problems from Academy, STEER CLEAR OF THIS INSURER

Terrible And Not Understanding

Really bad I got insurance from aviva but through a broker they used academy insurance service. They have just billed me for leaving the company as I sold my house and didn't need to insure it. They have claimed 60% of the premium for safety and danger premium on the account. I refused to pay but they said its in the cancellation which my broker didn't explain to me. I would use these or any other these people again ever. Get independent insurance it's cheaper and make sure you ask them on the phone what the charges are when you need to leave.

Took my money said I never paid (my bank says I did) cancelled my policy and threatened me with additional charges. It’s a licence to print money for them. Stay away you have been warned.

Left Feeling Ripped Off

When I first took out my insurance they were reasonably positive but had no mention of cancellation fees etc. Unfotunately for me my vehicle engine broke so I sold it for spares or repair. I still had over 3 months on the policy so contacted them to swap vehicles and add my new car. This is when I was told that they could not as my old vehicle was on a 4 x 4 special insurance. Then then told me they could refund the 3 months on a 12 month policy but their price was 1 third higher than all other brokers, i.e £740 as opposed to £500 with Hastings, They then told me that they would take off the amount of refund that I would get from my other policy which would bring the cost down by £73. This still made them £178 more than the lowest and a good £100 to £120 than the average. I decided to cancel and go elsewhere . WHen I cancelled they sent me an email back saying that as I had cancelled after 8 months they would not refund me any money. My original insurance was just under £400 , meaning that these rip off merchants have cancelled my insurance and kept my refund which they had told me prior would be a discount of £73. Do not use them if you think you may have to cancel as they will keep your money.I feel totally ripped off. Rip off Britain again these insurance companies are as bad as the banks. Oh and while I had insurance through them Imy vehicle was hit while parked , I made no claim through them but persued it through a solicitor but they still marked it on my insurance which means my policy has gone up , totally useless company , be warned !

Hi I had a broker get my insurance and not once in 2 years did they say academy insurance would want a percentage if you leave.

The problem with your review is you state "they never informed me of cancellation fee". Rubbish. Every broker/insurer tells you cancellation costs in policy book, you just chose not to read it! Not every insurer covers every type of car, hence you getting an aray of prices, that's why it's a competitive market

Rip Off Merchants

After being with this insurance company for a few years and never claiming we renewed our policy in January. A few weeks later our car packed in and we had to get another one. We rang to transfer our old policy to the new car to be quoted £386 which we thought was steep plus 13% was added to pay monthly which came to £436.When we said we will check prices online we were informed that to cancel the policy would cost us £147. What a rip off. We were then told that we had to pay £116 this month and £59 per month for 9 months as cover. This comes to £647. After querying this thinking they had added our previous policy to the new one, the person on the phone was adamant the price was right. Needless to say we are not impressed. We found another quote elsewhere for £272 and will e cancelling the policy with this company. At least a certain Mr Turpin wore a mask, this lot are shameless. Do not touch this company with a barge pole.

Misleading

Gave me a good price when I got put through by Call Connexions but when I tried to check their policy details they tried baffling me with waffle.

New car replacement in the 1st year! (Except my car is 4 years old)

Repairs up to 60% of the value of my car! (Like with ALL Insurers?!)

I called to check my excess and they told me my £100 voluntary (but there was an additional £200 compulsory on the paperwork) I asked if a courtesy car is included and was told yes, then found out it's only for 14days.

I asked if my no claims bonus was protected and they eventually told me no, but tried to explain that I didn't need to have it instead. When they added it onto my quote it put the price up to the same as everyone else!

Their claims line is on an 0845 number, not the freephone number that you call for their sales team. After all the discrepancies I've seen I'm not happy.
