Awfull!! Service - Dont Ever Use This
I have done a wire from USA to India and its been about three weeks and there is no clue where the money is.
All the service representatives in HSBC are rude and keep trying to dodge the call around and wouldn't even try to help assist. The service respresentatives in USA ask to contact India and people in India have no clue what we are talking about.
I'm in deep trouble due to this and they care less.
Don't ever use this service.

Totally Incompetent
It took over four weeks to transfer a considerable sum of money from the HSBC bank in Knaresborough, England to my account in Canada. The bank initially wrote the wrong account number on the electronic transfer, despite having a voided cheque. The money circled in cyberspace for a while before being returned to the bank in England, but as it had been changed into Canadian dollars the bank claimed that the only way to transfer the money was by draft as it would cost me £1,000 to change it back to Pound sterling. However, A week later it said it was transferring the money electronically and should be in my account in a couple of days. When contacted five days later it said, no, a draft was the only way. The whole transaction and interaction with the bank was bizarre and extremely frustrating. The bank made the initial mistake but made no effort to compensate for expenses due to lost interest and countless international phone calls. The whole experience was extremely stressful. I would never recommend this bank.
I work abroad with over 50 expats, and every single one of them has told me to avoid using HSBC (local, international, and HSBC Premier). The service quality has been appalling. Even locals tell me to avoid them. They are reknown to be the worst bank in this country. It's simpler to wire the money to your account (and cheaper). Try complaining now...generic customer service email, but no resolution. Each HSBC bank in different countries are separate companies, so the quality of service you get is dependent on the country and more importantly the competency of the person you speak to (not HSBC systems). It's evident HSBC do not want retail customers now. Expect further declines. Do not blame the staff directly, the management are to blame.
HSBC International payment system should be relatively simple to implement. Normally they sit with the customer directly and get you to check the funds being sent out to the target country with the information provided. As well as they should be double checking this every step of the way with the customer. As to ensure the information is correct. I would also recommend that if a mistake has been made to raise a complaint. Complaining has its benefits as if this has happened to both of you it will have happened to others. Therefore this should allow them to streamline the process and allow them to enhance any global transfer.
The only thing I would add from experience is be aware that most countries now have very strict money laundering compliances so therefore be aware that it could take time.
Thanks for sharing this. I am currently facing the same situation: chasing HSBC Singapore for funds which show in the Global Transfers History of my account as having been transferred to my account in Australia!
In the long past (2 years ago) HSBC Australia had helpful call centre staff. But now they have outsourced, it seems, the Call Centre. So they can't explain why the Transfer History shows a transaction has taken place but the actual Accounts Summary show nothing has taken place!
After reading your experience, I now realise that HSBC worldwide needs to do something to make their 'Global Transfers' work!!!

International Money Trancefer
My experience with HSBC is awful. After 2weeks of money to reach Hong Kong and still waiting.Plus they charge a £25 "investigation" fee to check what the hell happened to my money and still no timescale when I will know.Terrible Terrible terrible Keep away from any Money tracefer when it comes to HSBC is all I can say.
To be honest HSBC service has dropped off dramatically in the last few year. Hundreds of expats I spoken to have said the same thing. HSBC is not interested in retail banking since they can't gamble with people's savings for investment purposes and expect to be bailed out by governments. Hence they are only going after high value clients who they can charge lots to. If you aren't one of them, then they can't be bothered with you. Reductions in support staff, poor management and target based selling means HSBC has gone from being a Walmart to an Aldi of banks. Even high value customers are not getting good service. They forget, the number of high values customers is very small. The will shrink as a bank gradually. They are no longer a international bank, they are a bank that thinks it's big, but actually is small. The exposure to HK and Chinese markets will cause a run if the bubble bursts there. Take your money out and think use smaller banks that actually give you a service. Forget the big 4.
This has made my day. I wish all ptosings were this good.

In Jan 07, I Moved To Australia And Used The Hsbc
In Jan 07, I moved to Australia and used the HSBC to transfer my money, around 15 grand sterling from my HSBC account to my new Australian Commonwealth bank account. I was assured of a 4 day transfer time. After 5 days, I checked my Australian account... money was not there. But money had come out of my HSBC account. I was not worried so checked again after a couple of days. One week after transfer.. money still not there.. I called HSBC services.. they re-assured that money was going through and not to worry. Ten days after transfer.. money still not there.. Again, I called HSBC services and was reassured. I was not greatly worried because HSBC is a big name bank etc. Two weeks later... money still not there... Again, I called HSBC services. This time, they call was directed to an Indian call centre which I found totally bizarre. They Indian staff gave me various transfer codes and were puzzled as to why my money had not gone through; my bank account details on both sides were correct. They told me to go to my Australian bank and check their 'SWIFT code.'Between two weeks and twenty one days.. lots of to and fro between Australian bank and HSBC services on the phone. All this time, HSBC services stating how puzzled they were because the money had come out of my HSBC account ages ago. Eventually, I gave a relative in the UK authority to act on my behalf. He went to my local HSBC who checked my account. They said the money has gone through. 'It is at the WESTPac bank in Australia'..... Hmmmm..... My bank is the Commonwealth. To top it all off, NO apology was offered and I still had to pay the transfer fees. Final advice, IF you use this service, get names of people you deal with from the start, record any codes etc associated with the transfer.

You Probably Will Be Able To Find Cheaper Money Ex
You probably will be able to find cheaper money exchange services than HSBC Money Transfer, but I just feel more secure to do the transfer through my bank. If something goes wrong I know who to blame!
