Useless Travel Insurance Element

Cancellation of expensive holiday due to badly broken wrist - not covered as we didn't pay with Amex. Well why would we when that's 2 or 3% more expensive? And if we did, Amex get paid twice - we've already paid for the card. So a cunning way to avoid claims, introduced a year or two ago apparently.

Without this cover the travel insurance bit is seriously flawed. it's an important part of what you pay for and you won't find out until too late that unless you allow Amex to dictate how you pay for your holiday, you need separate cover. Left a very sour taste indeed.

Worst Customer Service Ever

Suspended my card due to suspected fraud but they won't tell me what the purchase is there querying they also won't tell me how long it will take to sort it out so have had to cancel an iphone which has been on order for over a month as I am scared they will refuse to pay and damage my credit rating Joke is you pay them £25 a year for the privilege of them refusing to talk to you and accusing you of fraud ( they won't even tell you what transactions there questioning ) and refusing to give you the information you need to sort it out Do yourself a favour and use a different credit card there not worth it and they definitely don't go the extra mile

Just try to get them put things in writing. It is a highly overrated card. Do not apply or cancel!

Just Hiked By 50% To £450 Ukp - They Broke It.

The travel insurance for ALL family and airport lounge access was useful, but borderline value at the old £300 fee. Then they went and broke it by asking for £450 and offering worse insurance and some (to me) useless and pointless additional 'benefits'.

I am not paying MORE for a charge card than I do for a £40k car insurance!!!

If you fly every month in economy and stay in a lot of US chain hotels it works - otherwise its poor value. Bye Amex after 15 years.

Deceptive Practices - Do Not Use Amex Platinum Travel

Their travel services are atrocious and I would NEVER recommend them unless you want to be purposely deceived by Amex. I had previously purchased a cruise online through their travel services that confirmed all my Platinum cruise benefits in writing, guess they couldn't renege on that. Having had a great time on the cruise and an overall good experience with Amex's Platinum online travel booking, I decided to book another cruise but had to speak to a cruise representative (Herminio Ramirez) to get both the cruise line and Amex Platinum travel benefits. BIGGEST MISTAKE I could have made! After going on the cruise and realizing that I had not received any of the benefits I received last time in booking with Amex Platinum travel, I called Amex after returning home from vacation overseas. After much back and forth, I was told that they had listened to "all the recordings" and on there I had ASKED to confirm what additional benefits I would be receiving as a Amex Platinum card holder and was put on hold until the representative could confirm. When Herminio Ramirez came back on the phone, he went right into validating the order and completely ignored my initial question - the one he put me on hold to find out. So instead of owning up to THEIR error and purposeful deception, they said they would offer $100 back to cover the dinner for two and $20 bottle of champagne as a COURTESY. It is so ridiculous to say that $100 courtesy makes up for the $300 onboard credit that I will not be receiving. I have been a card holder for 10+ years and am now thinking I NEVER want to use my Amex Platinum to purchase anything since I don't not want to give another penny to a company that would condone such practices. I know I will NEVER be using Amex Platinum Travel services again, if I even decide to use my card again. For $450 a year, they could provide REAL customer service and have reputable travel agents. Herminio Ramirez - you should be absolutely ashamed of yourself. People like you are why customer service representative are consider scum.

Horrible Platinum Card Service

After American Express basically BEGGED me to apply for a Platinum card, I did so over a month ago. I applied online and received a notice that the card was going to be expedited in 2-3 days which was perfect as I wanted to use it for travel and airport lounge privileges over the holidays, having 3 trips planned. After a week and not receiving the card, and unable to use it on first trip, I called and found that AE had mailed the card to an entirely wrong address. The person (whom I could barely understand) profusely apologized, took down the new address and issued a new card to me. A week later I called AGAIN as had no card, and had missed using it on my second trip, only to find out it had been again sent to the wrong address. Once again they reissued the card which I finally received (now 3 weeks later) but had missed using it on all three trips. Upon receiving the card I called to inquire about any kind of compensation (fee reversal, point reward, etc.) that could recoup me for my wasting hours, over 10 phone calls, 3 wrongly issued cards etc. The response was that they DO NOT reverse fees and they could only offer me 5K reward points. The supervisor also refused to get on the phone with me. I explained to them that this was NOT the type of service anyone expected from a Platinum card and cancelled the card right there. They could care less. So disappointing that what was once such a prestigious, elite institution has now gone the way of the dogs. I'll gladly spend $450 on airline lounge entrance versus paying for horrible customer service any day. Goodbye American Express.

Platinum Card Is Good Value

The platinum card offers good rewards, and benefits for travel customers. The service at one point in time was very poor and laid back on behalf of the Amex team. But since that hic-up, their service has improved ten fold. I find if you pay back monthly on a one off purchase, till the payment is complete, then you are building a good history with the Amex family. I have 3 Amex cards at the moment for different purposes, and life styles, eventually I will only use Amex, the rest will be 'chucked'.

American Express Platinum Charge Card Unbeatable.

I have been an American Express Platinum charge card member since 1998.The benefits and customer service they offer for the current annual fee of GBP 300.00 is superb.Being with Amex gives you the feeling that your wallet is in safe hands no matter where you are in the world. The Amex customer service team is there 24/7 every day of the year. The travel insurance is excellent we have had to make a few claims over the years and issues are resolved promptly and without any fuss.Being able to use aiport lounges through the priority scheme all over the wolrd is also useful.Even though some of the lounges in the UK really are in desperate need of updating.Lounges participating in other parts of the world such as Dubai and Seoul are of a much better standard.Being able to spend freely as long as you settle your account in full gives you financial freedom and Amex never lets you down, the card is always accepted and have never had any issues using the card.Accumulating Membership rewards points for every pound spent is a great programme and affilaited with many hotel and airline schemes. The last couple of months Amex has changed quite a lot and the call centre staff are really customer focused and they execute queries very efficiently and in a professional and curteous manner.Amex also allows one free supplementary Platinum card enjoying all the benefits. We also use other cards such as Diners Club and Visa HHonors card but they don't come near Amex in level of service and benefits. If you are an individual who wants reliability and good service all year round with no hassle, beleive me,American Express Platinum charge card is simply unbeatable. We will never leave Amex and are extremely happy and content card members.

The New Fraud Protection System Makes This Card Un

The new fraud protection system makes this card unreliable when traveling abroad. Was recently abroad when a fraud alert was triggered, and was not able to release the hold on the card until returning to a local number at which the fraud protection unit could contact me directly. Platinum Card Service personnel were very sympathetic, but there was simply nothing that they could do, acknowledging that the new procedures appeared to limit the value of the card when traveling. I would highly recommend it for those who do not travel abroad on a regular basis.

The Basic Benefits Of The Amex Platinum Card Are G

The basic benefits of the AMEX Platinum card are good - family travel insurance, supplementary cards for six people (who also get travel benefits), priority pass at airports etc, but the whole experience is let down by the awful customer service, and constant stream of errors and mishaps made whenever I have been in touch with them.

They soon apologise and credit your account with £25 as goodwill gesture, but the mistake keep happening, and the time wasting hassles of having to call them up to put things right defeat the whole purpose of a "concierge service".

Any attempt to get in touch with a senior manager to discuss ALL the errors as whole is met with more disappointment, as the duty manager that calls back will only discuss the last issue, telling me that "all other issues are resolved and closed." No foresight or management, and no care that they could lose me as a customer.

My card fee is paid up until October, I will not be renewing it after this point. It's really not worth the hassle.

This Is The Best Card I Have Had In My Wallet In A

This is the best card I have had in my wallet in all the years of using Credit Cards and Charge Cards. I use the Americian Express Service in London for this card and I can recommend the service. I have other cards with American Express with other currencies and I must confess the customer service in order locations can be poor.

Overall if you are a business traveller or travelling on a personal basis I can't find fault with the services this card can bring, especially when presented at certain establishments. In my view it is a better card and better value than the other the titanium card.

The cost or annual fee I normally receive back by way of the perks of the upgrades either with the Hire Car companies, upgrades at hotels. The health cover is second to none. For me you get nothing in life for free and therefore the fee charged is justified. For those whom are not so happy with the card I recommend highlight your concerns to AMEX direct as I have always received a favorable reply back, and the service improved going forward. They do take note ......
