“Quingo Air 2”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 29/03/2016

I purchased a Quingo Air 2 mobility scooter in January this year for my husband who had suffered a stroke. As it dismantled for travelling I though this would be great for getting him out and about. Unfortunately on our first trip up to the Newsagent, it just broke down. I had to leave my husband sitting there by the side of the road and walk half mile back home to get the car to go back to pick him up. If that wasn`t enough I couldn`t get the main body of the scooter off and struggled to lift the whole heaviest part up into the car. It`s a quiet road and there was no one around that I could ask for help. I managed eventually ,almost straining my back in the process. I rang Quingo and an engineer arrived a few days later with a replacement scooter... But problems again it wouldn`t come apart. Even the engineer struggled, so that went back as well. A week later yet another Quingo air 2 scooter arrived. Apparently there had been a batch that would not come apart. Anyway I thought third time lucky! Hopefully. But my hopes were short lived.. Yet again, on it`s second trip, the scooter broke down. Only this time we were down a quiet country lane, not far from home but far enough for me to, yet again, walk back and get the car. I was reluctant to leave my husband there alone in his compromised state, unable to walk, and in a lonely quiet road. My husband was really stressed, which can be seriously detrimental to his health so soon after suffering a stroke. I had to call our son to come and pick us up. A Quingo engineer is coming tomorrow, but even if he fixes this one I have lost confidence now in being able to go anywhere with out the fear that it will break down again and leave us stranded maybe further from home next time. What I though would give my husband a bit of happiness and independence has instead left us feeling utterly frustrated and disappointed.

I got a Quingo Sport through the mobility trust charity,it arrived on 15/05/2015 by the 12/06/2015 I was experiencing problems,a service engineer arrived on the 17/06/2015 an engineer arrived and changed the batteries,by the14/07/2015 it was giving me problems (I had to push it home 4 times out of 5 trips)the engineer came once more and this time changed both motor and batteries.I started having yet more problems, once more an engineer arrived on the 15th of this month ,he tested the batteries and took it on a test drive it very soon let him down ! we put it back on charge overnight, he tested the batteries and decided to take it on a test drive using the route that is my most frequent route with him following,3/4qtrs of the journey it failed again, and after several calls to his office they instructed him to get me to sign a waiver saying I had used it outside its parameters ie, its not made to climb hills! my final word is NEVER EVER BUY A QUINGO

I couldn't agree more! I have had similar problems. I daren't take my scooter further than a couple of miles ( I have a Vitesse which is supposed to do 30 miles).as the battery meter runs down at an alarming rate. I too had an engineer follow me on a test run, but of course it behaved itself then and for a while was OK, but now it's playing up again. I also have a canopy on mine which is totally unfit for purpose. When it broke on its first outing they told me to get it replaced on insurance! They own the insurance company - I've now changed to another one. I wrote to the managing director threatening them with Trading Standards (they've already fallen foul of the Advertising Standards Authority) so they gave me a free rear view camera. The hem of the canopy is right across the lens so that's useless too. I'm now going to contact BBC's Watchdog so watch this space!

Hi there,
1) Did you contact Watchdog and what happened?
2) Did you buy another m.scooter and if so which one?

I need a scooter that folds easily as l would have to do this on my own; my issue is a broken lumbar verterbra and l can't even hang the washing out, so handling a scooter that can't be folded by one person, is a real issue?

“Quingo plus colour”

★★★★★

written by Katoo100 on 13/07/2015

Hi, does anyone know the exact colour of the quingo range, though it looks silver somewhere along the line of many questions I've been told it's steel grey. I have just had a spray tin of vauxhall steel grey delivered but it looks a shade or two dark, As most car company's use steel grey they are all slightly different, and the reply from quingo of take it to halfords and et them to check it was unbelievable, as I'm registered disabled and my nearest halfords is about 20 miles away I would have to have a night away to charge battery's, mind no more than I expected as I've never found them very helpful on other queries I e had with them, love the scooter but wish they would get there heads round making easier to get parts

I think its absolutely disgusting you target vulnerable people. Fill them full of rubbish they buy a scooter from you pay way to much for it. Its had problems one after another. You fail to tell them they have to pay for a service and any repairs not in the warranty. There left not being able to use there scooter as it takes a week for quingo to come from Luton to fix it. Not even 2 years later they have no option but to buy another scooter and get rid of the quingo. I wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy Truly disgraceful. It makes me so angry .

We hear this so many times! Unfortunately some companies seem to apply more sales training than People care training - such a shame really!

We can not fault Quingo Scooters, even if over priced as new, they are good scooter with several advantage over other 4 wheel scooter!! They do not have any more problems than any other scooter on the market - especially considering other manufacturers scooters actually come from the same Factory!!

Search 'used quingos' you will find a midlands based company who specialise in used preowned quingos! They will do their best to help you where possible!!

It's unfortunate that these scooters would be very good if they work properly, but if they don't then you're landed with an expensive heap of junk. All the service engineers do is try to blame you for not looking after it properly. I've been using scooters happily for years, then I buy a faulty Quingo and suddenly I don't know how to look after it properly! A local mobility shop owner tells me he often has Quingo owners on the phone in tears because they have to wait so long for a service - which they seem to need more than most - and he can't help them because Quingo won't supply parts and if he tried to fix it Quingo would punish the owner by saying they'd broken their warranty! Buying a Quingo transformed my life - I was happily scootering about everywhere, now I'm worried about going more than a couple of miles - which means I can no longer get into town, and have to spend a fortune on taxis.

“Unhelpful ”

My dad bought a scooter when he was ill. He used it twice and then had to go into a home. They sold it to him knowing he was on morphine and a lot of other drugs that caused drowsiness . The twice he used it he couldn't control it. He went about 200 yards. My mum rang the company and told them and they didn't want to know, offering to buy it back ONLY if she bought another. They were unhelpful and sold a £4500 scooter that just sits in my ill mothers house.

Again We hear this so often!
Remember Quingo is the product not the company you are dealing with! Its such a shame large companies spend so much on sales with aftercare a second thought - its not the only industry it happens in!

Quingo Scooters are very good machines. There are some very good, almost new ones available at a fraction of the cost - with good customer support and no pressure! Just search used quingos you will find them!

“Big disappointment”

★★☆☆☆

written by Bovett19 on 22/03/2015

Scooter excellent at first, but now I'm having to use taxis while scooter stuck in shed, frightened to use it. Battery temperamental, so lost confidence in going out. Quingo did replace it. Tyres need constant pumping up impossible for disabled without support, engineer just shrugged when I asked how I could manage it. Canopy a nightmare. Poor quality, zips inaccessible from inside so it flaps, clip broke on first outing, engineer said to replace canopy on insurance and thus pay for it through raised premiums. Mirrors unusable unless door open which lets rain in and even then poor canopy design means restricted rear view. Also very little cold protection. Engineers efficient technically but surly and unhelpful. My previous scooter less comfortable and manoeuvrable, but much better overall, tyres dealt with on annual service, battery charged when needed, not every time or once a week when not in use, canopy warm, miss it now replaced with this temperamental monster which I can't get rid of - no-one wants to buy it. A very expensive mistake

The tyres should not be different to any other scooter, they should not be going down all the time unless there is a problem!! Batteries should hold their charge for at least a month without a problem (they should be charged every 4-6 weeks at the least thou if not used)

If you need anything search used quingos - were here to help

“You can GO, GO, GO with the Great QUINGO!”

★★★★★

written by Algie1950 on 09/12/2014

After struggling & mostly feeling afraid with my old 3 wheeler scooter, I saw an ad for the Quingo. The ad had me convinced I wanted one, then when the Quingo demonstrator brought 2 or 3 machines for me to try, I was truly hooked. No way could I go back to the 3-wheeler, or consider any other scooter. I have been delighted with my Quingo-Plus, I'm out almost every day on it. It feels very sturdy, safe, is easy to drive & control, with the bonus of being able to go up or down kerbs etc. The tyres have excellent grip, & I'm sure they would cope with anything the British weather could throw at them. I had a small problem with my rear lights, but just one call to Quuingo & their mechanic/engineer was booked to come & fix it. He arrived very early, & had it fixed before knocking on the door to tell me all was well.(It was parked by the front door ready for him) The staff, & the after-sales care cannot be faulted, they are so friendly & helpful. I never feel as if I am a nuisance, no matter how trivial my query. There is nothing not to like, if you're thinking of buying a scooter, please get a Quingo, you won't regret it!

“Quingo Air excellent”

★★★★★

written by Fi1701 on 27/10/2014

This is my first Quingo and I am well impressed. I love the way I can fit it into my car when I go visiting. I was a bit dubious the first time I put it in my car but it came down easy and even when I couldn't remember how to put the front basket my 7 year old grandson knew how it went. Only fault I can think of at the moment is feel with the dark nights coming in (it's often darkish coming home from work) is no lights, but I suppose I could get something that fits. But an optional extra for the Air might be a good idea? I also feel I could have been more informed about adjusting the seat, armrests etc before I bought it. All in all I would highly recommend it. It is one of the more comfortable scooters I gave tried. I must mention the 5 wheels. The front middle wheel makes manoeuvring so much more easier and much more stable.

Thank you for your very positive feedback, we are delighted that you are pleased with your Quingo Air.

With regards to your commets about lights unfortunately the Air is one of the few models that does not have a full lighting kit, however as a gesture of good we would be happy to send you a set of complimentry battery powered lights which would make things safer for you on these dark evenings. Thank you again for your feedback. Much appreciated.

So far as I am aware no car portables have light as they drain the quite small batteries needed to keep the weight low. Best solution is to geta cycle shop to fit cycle lights.

After reading an ad about Quingo Air,i decided to have a free home demo. was shown how to assemble scooter and how easy it was to fit in the boot of my car, after having a trial decided to purchase scooter, there was no pressure at all from salesman. The scooter has given me a new lease of life as i have difficulty breathing and cannot walk very far. Since having my scooter we have been on various day trips and a holiday, it has turned my life around.

“Quingo Flyte lets me soar!”

★★★★★

written by ChrissieE on 08/10/2014

I have never driven a car or ridden a bike, so was not sure I would manage to ride a scooter. But it's so easy to get to grips with the Flyte, and I love popping down to the prom at Southbourne, which I'd not had the desire to do this year, since my various mobility issues had worsened. It's lovely sitting high enough to talk to people who are standing, without craning my neck. The Flyte is compact, but powerful (it's rather hilly here), and has enough storage (including a lockable boot) to let me carry a reasonable shop - I've not used my shopping trolley since I got my Flyte. I love the freedom I have gained, and the joy of knowing I can go to places I'd stopped going, due to my walking difficulties.

“Very good first impressions.”

★★★★★

written by Blackwellok141 on 15/08/2014

My mother has just bought a Quingo Compact and the pre sales and delivery service were excellent. Absolutely no pressure to buy, and the salesman who came to for the test drive pointed out the difficulties we might have as well as the shortcomings. The delivery man deliberately got my mum to negotiate a kerb with a steep incline so that she understood what she needed to do and what it would feel like. We"ve just been on our first drive to the shops. We live at the top of a fairly steepish hill, the scooter managed the trip with no problem and although it doesn't have a very high maximum mileage it is enough for my mum. On the negative side, these portable scooters sre still failry heavy and storage is a problem in a terraced house. We have had to use a garage we rent from the council. The steering is such that it is tempting to press down hard on the forward lever when trying to turn a tight corner, especially if you are older and have less sensitivity in the hands or if you panic. However I think she will get used to it.b

“Superb comfort and turning ability”

★★★★★

written by Laylaw60 on 01/08/2014

I have recently purchased a Quingo Vitess after trying out a number of different types of scooter. The Vitess is so comfortable to drive and it's small turning circle means it's so easy to use in shop. A superb vehicle. THe after sales service has also been excellent with telephone call to check that the delivery was ok and then a few months later to check everything was ok. So all in all an excellent purchase..

“Overpriced if you want one buy a little used one on E Bay”

★★★☆☆

written by Sandowner on 15/01/2014

The Quingo is an OK scooter but it is vastly over hyped and over priced. The full page adverts , commissions paid to sales staff ans to Age UK ensure you do not get value for money. Far better to contact your local mobility scooter for advice. But again shop around as even they can vary wildly on price. As a general rule an 8 mph scooter should cost between £1800 and £3000 and a 4 mph between £800 and £1500. Ask about after sales repairs and servicing. Generally avoid cheap online deals on new scooters unless they are local to you. Always try the scooter out before buying. If you buy a Quingo new it will lose 50% almost immeadiately so you have been warned far better to buy a lightly used one off E Bay but do check you can get it repaired OK first as Forever Active do not supply parts to other mobility shops so you could be tied in to expensive repair contracts.

★★★★★

written by 3283 on 24/04/2013

Had my quingo sports for nearly 3 years. I am virtually unable to walk but I can and do take my cocker spaniel for 5 - 6 miles run every day. Using cycle tracks, farm tracks, across fields and with her sitting between my feet I can travel safely on ordinary roads. I enjoy this and my dog looks forward to her run as soon as I get out of bed each day. Without the reliability, power and ease of use over all terrains of my Quingo sports scooter I would simply not be able to do any of this.

“Rip off!!!! DO NOT TOUCH!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 12/05/2012

My Dad was dying of lung cancer and my Mum thought as he was finding it more "very nice" man from Quinco came over and basically frightened my Mum into paying £2700 for a scooter that he promised cold not tip over. Rubbish obviously as anything will tip over if at the right angle/speed etc. Now very ill my Dad used it to go out on to a local restaurant for a family meal. Poorly made and designed as it was my Dad cut his leg on a sharp part of the scooter so badly he had to seek medical treatment. When Mum phoned Quingo now having taken her for a ride were uninterested. They did send a man around who succeeded in making it even more of a hazard. My Mums 65 y/o brother fixed it for her in the end. After 2 trips on the scooter my Dad went into a hospice where he dies a few weeks later. My Mum took the brochures into a local shop who sell used scooters and he refused to buy it as they were known to be poorly made and very very overpriced. Mum tried several other places and they all said the same DON'T TOUCH! They are 2000+ overpriced, they tell you lies to make you buy one and you can get a better one for half of the price or less! Make sure if you have an elderly relative about to buy a scooter you make sure they are not ripped off by Quingo.

What an absolute load of rubbish ,since my first scooter failed completely and was taken away and a loan scooter was supplied, which was finally given to me in September has failed spectacularly 3 weeks ago it broke down, the engineer came round for a final service under the guarantee and said the batteries had failed and it would cost £176-00 to replace them as it was just six months I argued that they should be still under guarantee. Having stood my ground on this issue they agreed that there would be no charge. Three days later it failed again and we have not come to any agreement on the way ahead. My argument is that the scooter is obviously not fit for purpose and the company should surely feel that they have some responsibility to ensure people have a reliable scooter as these are not for pleasure but to give the disabled independence.

I too have had problems with battery charging almost from the start on my year old Quingo Vitesse. Basically these are temperamental beasts which don't like not being used. The problem could be with the battery charger - I'm sure Quingo supply poor quality ones - I've had mine changed twice. My scooter has been a nightmare, Quingo make 'gestures' about putting things right, but they never seem to work. Try contacting them to see if they will fix the problem, but be prepared for a hefty bill if the scooter is out of warranty - they'll probably tell you you need new batteries. Find out much they'll charge for a callout before they come, too. Unfortunately you can only go to them - they won't supply parts to any other engineers.

How much will it cost to upgrade my Quingo Air?

Difficult one to answer as you do not say what you want to upgrade to. The first problem will be the horendous depreciation on your own scooter. A look on E Bay or elsewhere will show that. My advice would be to look for a good used scooter, rather than a new one as you nearly always suffer a large depreciation if you pay rrp especially if you buy a new Quingo. I could go on for some time about why there is a vast discrepancy between traders buying price and the published rrp (basically I believe it is mainly to justify the DLA scheme prices and if you can always buy outside that scheme via a good local dealer). If you want to stick with the Quingo brand have a chat to BeSureMobility. If you have realised that Quingos are vastly over-hyped and over-priced imho the visit a couple of reputable local dealers, tell them what you want and what the internet price is , but I do not advise buying at low internet prices. Most scooter buyers need the advice, back up and repairs and servicing provided by a reputable local dealer, but that does come at higher price. As always you get what you pay for and peace of mind is a valuable commodity for people with health issues. Thats me off my soapbox but I have retired from the trade after 20 years and I feel it is time the truth was explained to folk. Best regards and I hope you reach a good decision.

Frankly I wouldn't bother to get another Quingo. They are grossly overpriced, the servicing is abysmal and if you have a problem scooter (as I have) having taken your money they don't want to know. I've had service engineers come along (wasting my time) who won't even acknowledge that I have a problem, others, to be fair, have tried to help, but the problem persists. I would cut your losses and go to a reputable local mobility shop for your new scooter - some of them also sell reliable used models.
