A few months back I found out the hard way that Canadian carriers enforce the incredibly archaic practice of charging $50 to unlock a phone that you’ve paid for through your contract. I was told by a Telus rep that my phone would be permanently damaged if I tried using a third-party “sham service” and that they were the only guarantee I had.
