Avoid This Shop At All Costs. Tried To

AVOID THIS SHOP AT ALL COSTS.

TRIED TO GIVE ZERO STARS AS THEY DO NOT EVEN DESERVE ONE STAR, BUT UNFORTUNATELY HAVE TO RATE WITH ONE STAR.

I ordered my wedding dress back in January 2010 and upon ordering was told that I had plenty of time for the dress to be made, and needed approx 6 months. My wedding was in October so ordering in January, you would think this was plenty of time - WRONG.

This was the beginning of a nightmare... I was meant to have my fitting 4 weeks before my wedding, and was only phoned the DAY BEFORE my fitting to say "the dress has not arrived, and might still be in China" - What a thing to tell a Bride!!! I was so upset, and the more I called the shop asking for them to track the dress, the ruder they were to me. The dress didn't even come in until ONE WEEK BEFORE MY WEDDING DAY - and even then, when I tried the dress on, it DIDNT FIT - they ordered the wrong size!!!!

After all this, the dress was then "altered to fit" and I picked it up TWO DAYS before my wedding day... Dress still did not fit, but was told to just take the dress away.

Their attitude was disgusting, totally unprofessional, the older woman smokes and then handles the dresses (eww!). If you want a STRESS FREE wedding dress, DO NOT get the dress from this shop.

I am going to put in a formal complaint, and have also written this review so that other Brides do not have to put up with, or go through what I've been through because it's not right. These people are paid a LOT of money for dresses, and I think the Brides should get more of a professional service.

JD Bride and Groom ARE RUBBISH, AND WILL CAUSE YOU MORE STRESS THAN YOU NEED FOR YOUR WEDDING DAY - AVOID AT ALL COSTS - I WAS UNCOMFORTABLE IN MY DRESS ALL DAY AND IT RUINED MY WEDDING.

Ladies. I am the person that left the first or second review of this company, way back in 2007. This company nearly ruined my wedding too but I found a negative review just in time! I was able to source other dresses and suits in time.

Everytime I walk up Westgate Street, I sneer at the shop and tell whoever's with me how much extra they cost me.for their mistakes! I'm sure you can imagine just how delighted I was last Wednesday, 14th Dec 2011, to see this wreched shop has closed! I just hope, for all our sakes, they haven't moved to yet another unsuspecting location in Gloucester, or any other city! They have another shop in Cheltenham too, run by the same family. They too are just as BAD!

I Found All The Staff At Jd Bride & Groom To Be Ex

I found all the staff at JD Bride & Groom to be extremely helpful. They were very friendly and couldn't do enough for me. I was very nervous about choosing a dress but I was soon put at ease and was given advice on which styles would suit me. My dress was made for me and everyone at my wedding commented on how beautiful it was. The price was very reasonable too and I couldn't have been more pleased with the final outcome. All in all, I would say that I was extremely happy with the service I received and the beautiful dress that was made for me.

We Ordered 2 Bridesmaids Dresses, 3 Fur Jackets, A

We ordered 2 Bridesmaids dresses, 3 fur jackets, a ring cushion, and a garter from JD Bride and Groom in Gloucester.

The bridesmaids dresses were ordered from a company called Jasmine. We ordered them 6 months in advance, but they did not arrive until 2 weeks before the wedding and even though repeatedly phoning and asking for an delivery date we were told 'not to stress out' and this was due to the 'Chinese new year'.

They absolutly swamped us (even though a so called seamstress measured us), and they ordered the wrong length in one of them. I then said I would like to take the dresses away to be altered by a freind as I didnt want anymore hassle, but was made to feel uncomfortable when she insisted on altering them in shop for free. We went back to collect the altered dresses a week later and they were still too big. The hems were also totally wonky, the linings were below the top of the dresses, and the zips were not central on both. On the one dress, the excess lining was not trimmed but tucked and sewn into the dress, giving undesirable padding. We went back again for the second time and they were still too big, and the wonky seams were still present although they were complained about the previous time. We were again told 'not to panick' and I went back again on the Thursday, two days before my wedding. I took away the one dress but the other was still not finished and had to be dropped off to my daughter whilst she was in university the following day. Now BOTH of the dresses felt tight and we invited our seamstress freind to look at them, who was disguisted. She had to completly unpick the one dress as the shoddy sewing work made the zip impossible to do up, straighten the hem on both dresses and take out the excess material tucked in the one dress and worked for hours and then had to come the following evening.

After all of the sub par alterations, the dresses looked nothing like we wanted them to and of the picture description and my one daughter was planning on wearing this dress to her prom.

We also ordered three handmade fur shrugs from them, which we especially had to travel to be measured, then a further three times for fitting as they could not seem to get it right. We were originally quoted £45, but this then shot up to £70. On one the one shoulder was higher than the other, all of them were wonky and fabric was disguisting and would not stop malting. Our freind also had to work on these to try to make them look presentable, but they were not worn for long.

We also ordered a ring cushion which cost £25, but looked cheap and you could still see the pencil guide for the embroidery, which looked awful and could of been done better by a complete amateur. My garter which was £15, did not fit either and kept on slipping.

I phoned to complain about all of the above and they tried to take the dresses back, but then I very much refused and they offered me compensation, which I have still not recieved.

I find the way I have been treated disgraceful and I am thankful I did not get my wedding dress or suits from them. I hope that people read the experiences talked about on here and do not use them as this company has ruined many a wedding day and should not be allowed to trade. please go elsewhere for your special day.

Unfortunately, After Reading The Other Two Reviews

Unfortunately, after reading the other two reviews, I can say things are no better!! I am currently waiting for my daughter's prom dress to be finished. Initially, after, what appeared to good service and my money paid to them (in full) for my daughter's dress, things suddenly took a turn for the worst! I was initially told the alterations to the dress would be ready in two weeks time - four weeks later I arrived to collect the dress, to be told that the dress wasn't finished and in future could I make an appointment (service not very friendly - but they have my money now!!). We returned home (20 miles from Gloucester) armed with an appointment card for the collection date. The day before the collection date, (now 6 weeks after we ordered and paid for the dress)I receive a phone call saying that they couldn't find the correct material to make the alterations and could I go over to Gloucester with the stole they had given my daughter (so that she could help match the colour of the dress with her partners cravat)and they would use this to make the alteration!! I said it was costing me a lot of money in petrol, so she said she'd come to collect it from our house and she would call to confirm .... that was three days ago!!

My Experience Has Been A Nightmare From The Beginn

My experience has been a nightmare from the beginning and if you want a stress free dress buying experience don't go here! I actually bought my dress whilst we were living up North and when we moved back here I was looking for somewhere to do the alterations. I took my dress into the shop and the lady got me to try it on so she could have a look at it and pin it to where it needed to be altered. She then basically spent the next 20 minutes slating the dress basically saying what a bad design it was and how poorly made it was (obviously because it was not bought from there).

I was so gobsmacked I really could not say a thing, luckily my sister was there who was having none of it and reassured me by saying I bought the dress because I liked it and that is all that matters. The woman then back tracked and started being really nice.

She told me it would be £60 to do the alterations which was quite reasonable but I had to pay the whole lot up front. She wanted £30 to do the bridesmaid dress and said that I wouldn't need to bring that in until a few weeks before the wedding. (After my experience I didn't bother taking the bridesmaid dress back in and got someone else to do it!).

I had heard they weren't great on time keeping so I said I needed it a week before I actually did, we are getting married in Cornwall and going down the week before anyhow so I needed it as early as I could. Good job really as the week before the date I had asked for it to be completed I had not heard from them. I called them all day on the Monday and couldn't get through so assumed they were closed. Managed to finally get hold of them after calling constantly Tuesday and was told it would be ready on the Friday - good job I wasn't get married on the Saturday!.

I went in to pick it up on the Friday and initially wasn't going to try it on but then I thought I should really.

Good job I did as on inspecting the dress there was a hole in it! When I pointed this out the woman said 'well we wouldn't have done this'. It looked like it had been caught in the zip of the dress carrier it was in. I told her that obviously it wasn't there before or I would have got them to fix that too!!! They also couldn't find the lace to do it up with at the back and had to go and search for it, why they needed to take it out to take the dress up I don't know!

I told them I needed it for Tuesday as we were travelling to Cornwall to get married and she said it would be ready. I went in 10.30 Tuesday morning and picked it up and walked out glad to have my dress back.

I took it home to try it on with my sister and when she was doing it up the lace was filthy!! The dress is dirty too so I now have to get it cleaned. All I can say is don't go there it is not worth the hassle!!

I Dont Even Want To Give Juliet And Desdemona Cout

I dont even want to give Juliet and Desdemona Couture 1 out of five but appears I have no choice! I found out that They would not be able to supply the dress that I had been promised. I the questioned this with them to be fobbed off and told everything would be ok. I asked them for something in writing from them and from the designer to put my mind at ease. After 6 months several phone calls and visits to the shop they didnt come up with anything. They were very rude to me and my mum. Thier attitude really is appauling making me less confident. Eventually after many empty promises I asked for a refund of my deposit because they were unable to prove to me that I would get anything at they end of it. They refused and told me that they hadnt doen anything wrong 'yet'!!!! So I took it to small claims court after giving them notice that I would, which they ignored. They ignored all letters from the court also so the court awarded me judgement. They have agin ignored this and not paid me back so have a CCJ against them. I am now planning my next line of attack as I will not let them get away with it. Have also reported them to trading standards. It just worries me that they could be doing this to other people who arent as fortunate as me and dont find out in plenty of time. Please dont go near them!!!

I Had An Appointment Booked To Try On Dresses At J

I had an appointment booked to try on dresses at JD last weekend. They kept to the appointment and spent a long time with me trying on dresses. Nearly everyone in the shop ;-)

The ladies who helped me were very professional and made me feel totally relaxed and it didnt take me too long to find the dress of my dreams and i subsequently paid a £200 deposit. I feel happy and confident with the service i recieved so far and i cant wait for my dress to be delivered. Looking forward to the new range of bridesmaid dresses too.

I Am The Bride In Question. I Went To The Shop Bec

I am the bride in question. I went to the shop because at first they seemed helpful and friendly, and were the only people not to look down their noses at my husband because he's a goth. When your ordering 7 suits you'd think anyone would be happy of the business!

I went in several times to try the dress I wanted. It was way more than I wanted to spend, but it was the one. I saved for the deposit, only to be told - 'we're not dealing with that supplier anymore'. No can do. House of Brides saved me a couple of hundred pounds! Bargain! Because of their seemingly helpful service, I wanted to give them my business. That's 2 mistakes I made!

I wasn't told they had to smash the beading on my dress to alter it. Which meant 6 areas came undone after! The 'alteration' was brought in at the top of the dress around the bust. BUT not round the waist. So on the day, it cut under my arms, and kept falling down. I couldn't lean back or raise my arms to dance or the entire party would have seen all!! Probably would have been funny for all else! As for the £60 for 12 tiny pathetic bits of ribbon? When we went to tie it on the day, we'd already lost one. We compromised with car ribbon. It actually worked better. Until 2 more fell out.

I was told it will be ready for collection with said bustles about 3 weeks before the day. So I went in, not done. Can you come in next Thursday? Yes. Not done. So we wait 1 1/2 hours. How do we do it - it's colour coded - tie these and these etc.... Get it home to it being one foot longer on the one side when we tie it up!! They didn't even check it! Call them, can you bring it in, yes it's coming Sat, I WILL pick it up Tues 10.30. 4pm I finally arrive. Not done. So i sit and wait for another hour. Making me late for another appointment. Not amused.

And that was only 1/2 the suit story. 2nd fitting, the father in law says, i need a size up in the trousers and they are too short. It is arranged to pick up the suits at 4pm 2 days before the wedding. By 4.30 we're standing outside waiting for them to open, with another lady (who was going into complain). We then have to sit and wait 1/2 hour for them to finish prepping the suits, 3 waiscoats short. Late for another appointment. Very stressed! And the woman was patronising me to the point I had to phone a friend to calm down before I lost my temper. Day before, my brother tries on the suit. These trousers are too small. I call shop, bring them in we'll swap them, have you got the right size in? Don't know, we'll look when the other trousers come back. Not possible, some people work! Also, where are the waistcoats that you said you'd deliver it's 11am, we're leaving to set up the venue soon! They arrived ages ago, but they were busy. Father in Law kindly sorts it all out as best he can with several choice words. I wasn't present. I was fuming.

Day of the wedding - my husbands shirt was so big, I could fit my arm up his sleeve with his arm still in it. Trousers were an incredibly poor finish, the shirts were disgusting, and as said, one waistcoat too big by far.

Long story short - Seem friendly and relaxed, they actually just don't care. Incredibly patronising when you just want something sorted, and they don't double check their sloppy work. I strongly reccommend DON'T use them. Pay the extra, go somewhere better. Avoid the unneeded stress! Don't do it. Apologies for the rant. It upset me that much. I am the daughter from the previous reveiw

I Agree With Some Of The Other Comments. The Servi

I agree with some of the other comments. The service is shoddy to say the least. My daughter ordered an Alfred Angelo dress, which suddenly they no longer dealt with. ( I wonder why) we ordered the dress from the USA direct and got excellent service. Unfortunately a bit of weight loss meant the dress had to be taken in. £180 later and we have loose stitching, beads falling off, and poor alignment. Couldn't find the straps either. The bustles came in at £60, and were made of poor offcuts of ribbon which frayed within 1/2 hour and started to detach. This was after 3 attempts at getting them in the right place.

all in all a complete rip off. No apologies nothing, just a lousy service. see below. The shop opens when it feels like it and everything takes at least 3 vsits.
