Downe Health Spa Hartland, Devon

I have been to Downe Health Spa several times now,usually with my daughter.We have always had a very enjoyable and relaxing day with wonderful treatments.The therapists are lovely girls who always make you feel at ease and do a very professional job.Fab treatments [ I always have a job to chose ].The day goes too quickly.I must say also that the lunch is first class with a lot of care taken both with the presentation and the choices available.We thoroughly enjoyed our day,it was a real treat,and once again a voucher will be on my Christmas wish list - again !!!!!!!!!!!

Had a fabulous day at Downe's Health Spa with 3 friends yesterday. It's a beautiful spot with views out over rolling countryside to the sea and to Lundy Island beyond. In the Spa area itself you look out over a delightful lilypond.

The whole day was thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing. The treatments were excellent (I can highly recommend the sea spa exfoliation/massage. Although my friends were equally impressed with their treatments such as the hot stone massage.) The food delicious. The staff very friendly and helpful. We all agreed that it was a fab place - and we will definately be back!

WARNING, OUT OF POCKET EXPERIENCE

We would like to share our experience of the need to cancel the attendance of 1 member of a group party booking of 7 people, due to a family health issue. A total of £519.00 was paid to the proprietor of Downe Health Spa, in advance, as full payment for 7 people to enjoy a 'stress free' pamper half day event. The payment included the 'compulsory' choice of treatments as part of the pamper half day contract for each person. Unfortunately, 1 member of our group could not attend. The proprietor of Downe Health Spa was informed by telephone immediately (approximately 24 hours before the event). Downe Spa staffs were reminded again on the actual pamper half day event that a member could not attend. At the time, there was no offer of any reimbursement or indeed an option to reschedule for the missing member. So far, and despite several written requests including a recorded delivery correspondence, the proprietor of Downe Health Spa has chosen to ignore all our communication attempts to reach an agreeable resolve to this matter. Our absent member remains out of pocket for £94.00 that was paid for a half day pamper and facial treatments that were not received. As a group of hard working health professionals we find the proprietor's approach to ignore all our communication attempts and requests for a reimbursement or offer of a voucher or reschedule as being outrageous. Shame on you Downe Health Spa, Hartland, Devon.

Having read through the other reviews of Downe Health Spa on these pages, in light of my recent experience, it seems that the spa only offers good customer service if no problems arise. However, if they do, a very money-grabbing and poor service attitude raises its ugly head! I am writing with such disappointment - I recently left work (based at a London office) to begin maternity leave at home in Devon. As a kind gift, my colleagues purchased a £40 voucher for me from Downe Health Spa. However, as I live on the other side of the county and have no personal transport I have no way of taking up this gift. By public transport it would take me 3-4 hours each way to get to the Spa. As such, I asked if it might be possible to refund me the voucher amount to use at a spa closer to me. However, this has been pointedly and rudely refused with Downe Spa saying that they need to keep the money to cover administration costs (of sending me an email voucher, I assume - given that I have received nothing in the post). I would definitely not recommend the spa given the rudeness of its owners over email and on the phone. I feel very strongly that they have stolen the gift that my colleagues so kindly bought for me.

My daughter and I had a lovely pamper day at Downe Health Spa and I am very much looking forward to going again.If I could afford it I would go every week.The treatments we had were excellent and really did leave me feeling like I had had a special day.We went on a cold snowy day but it was so lovely and warm in the spa and quite something looking out of the window at the snow.I did hope we might have got snowed in but no such luck.We had a fabulous lunch and a cream tea at the end of the day.I know what to put on my birthday list now.

We searched the internet for somewhere to fit the bill for a relaxing, enjoyable, easily accessible location to hold my daughters hen day. Downes was perfect. I really could not fault the entire day, we were given good information well in advance for everything we neeeded to know before the day. On arrival we could park our cars in a safe place, strolll over to the spa where we were met by a charming member of staff who left us to relax with coffe, tea, cold drinks and biscuits!! Once the whole party was there we had our tour and instructions for the day, we each had our own timetable of treatments etc. The whole day was just what we wanted, good atmosphere, marvellous treatments, fantastic food and so so so relaxing. one person had been unable to get there due to a family crisis and Lynda even gave us a cream tea packed up for us to deliver to our missing friend on the way home!!

So if you want a fantastic, relaxing and yet energising experience at a health farm at a very reasonable price then try Downes........I highly recommend it!!

I would stongly recommed a pamper day to anyone who lives within the area or if your on holiday in north devon as it is a lovely relaxing and rejuvinating day. I enjoy it so much that i have booked a celebration day next year for my hen party, so we are very much looking forward to that although i have no doubt that we will be there before that day for another girls treat!

I received a friendly, professional greeting with services to match. The products utilised during my pamper day worked and I left the spa feeling relaxed, well looked after, it far exceeded my expectations. I would recommend to all ages.

We feel very badly treated by Downe Health Spa gave debit card details as a deposit before treatment decided. Owner debited my bank account for full amount, after we had to cancel Spa day as dates clashed. Owner refused to give any compensation or altenative dates and refused to send any details on cancellation policy. The owner just said we had a gruff tone when cancelling and has decided to keep the full amount from us!
