Review For Hoover H160e I Think The H160i Is Similar

Bought this a few years ago and paid the vast cost of insurance in case of machine failure 2 years extra cover, 3 years cover thinking that this machine would last for at least 6-7 years.

Whilst the machine was working in the 3 years i had problem free washing and thought i had made a good purchase at the time.

Only to be let down when sometime in it's 4th year outside of insurance cover it basically packed up. The panel light stayed on it did nothing, a few days before it was problematic as the cycle's became messed up and it was not doing what it should have.

Bought may 2003 and broken sometime by 2007 i did expect more but i guess i did not pay that much for the model only £279 back then.

I Bought The Hoover H160i Interact Washer After My

I bought the hoover H160I interact washer after my 3 year old bosch died. I always go for top of the range machines because I think they are the best. I have since found out differently. When I bought mine I paid almost £600 - what a waste of money.

When the machine was delivered it was broken, the door wouldn't stay closed, the control panel had 3 chips in it and the front was scratched. I phoned and was told it would be 3 weeks before they could get a new one to me, I ended up with a concrete block and the vacuum cleaner to keep the door closed while the machine was on, this machine was very quiet,(keep this in mind).

When I finally got the replacement machine I used it for the first time and thought how noisy it was compared to the 1st one but at the time all I could think was that the door stayed shut. The noise got worse so the engineer came and replaced the motor. It was still noisy so the engineer came again and tightned all the suspension, then it got noisier as it was spinning and dancing around so the engineer came out I complained that it said super-silent on the front but it was far from silent, this time he replaced the concrete block and it didn't cure it so out they came again and this time decided I should have a new one.

The new one came and within a week the computer had broken so out they came again and replaced the computer. 2 weeks later the heater went so out they came and replaced the heater. A month later the programmer went so out they come again and replaced the programmer. By this time I was on 1st name terms with the engineer and knew how he liked his coffee (black 2 sugars). A week after the programmer, the digital display went so out they come again and replaced the machine again, 2 days after the delivery of the new one it got noisy again so out comes the engineer again replacing all the suspension, then the heater a week later. After he did the heater the same day the display went again. Needless to say this went on. After I had this particular machine a year and 47 call outs it blew up. It was 2 months out of warranty and boy did it go with a bang. Thank god I was home. Hoover said they wouldn't do anything about it because it only had 1 year parts and labour. The parts are covered for 5 years so I had to pay huge sums for them just to walk through the door. I thought better of it and dumped the stupid thing, I now have a Tricity Bendix (zanussi machine) that I paid £230 and I'm over the moon with it. It's very basic and only has 1100rpm spin not 1600 like the hoover, but it actually spins better than the hoover and everything is so much dryer, which is good for me because every load I wash comes out of the machine and goes in the tumble dryer (I do have a garden but prefer the dryer cause I can't stand things drying on the radiators either). I love my tricity bendix, have had it 6 months and nothing has gone wrong with it (touch wood). I did have the matching dryer for the hoover washer (I'm quite snobby and have to have matching) now have the tricity bendix matching dryer) needless to say the hoover dryer was just as useless as the washer. I had that replaced 4 times as well but that's another epic.

p.s My Bosch dishwaher is 4 years old and I've never had a problem with that either(touching that wood again).

What a stressful ordeal you have been through! I have been through that with a television! I think I must have the only Hoover washing machine without a problem after two years and three childrens clothes to wash. I have left it in my rented house so fingers crossed. I now have a Bosch in my new house without a problem after half a year and at least one wash per day. Both basic machines costing £250. I did own a Hotpoint ten years ago which eat three times its value in clothes (remember Watchdog?) and blew up three times in one year and eat brushes on the motor every six months with one use a week! I used to change those myself as I couldn't afford to pay the callout cost after the warranty expired. So it appears that they still have not learned their lesson according to FBS's comment. Hotpoint are pants!

Bosch however, are getting very plasticy and I have one of their dishwashers where the filter failed to stop a crockery chip from entering the pump and blowing the circuit board! Covered under warranty fortunately as the repair bill was as much as the dishwasher cost me?

I know people with Miele and Siemens dishwashers and washing machines and they are so old yet they work. I personally believe it is down to mechanical controls and no fancy circuitry. FBS might like to correct me though as I am no engineer.

My advice if you cannot afford Miele or Siemens is to buy the cheapest unit that your preffered manufacturer makes and with the load capacity and spin speed that you prefer. I went for 4.5kg load and 1000 spin speed which is enough. Where do you hang all the extra washing of a bigger load capacity? Higher spin speeds mean more creases! Around £200-250 is all you need to spend and if it is a dud outside warranty you can buy another for the same price and may not have spent as much as you were going to originally on a fuzzy logic, flashing light, Formula 1 fast, cave of a machine!

I fix washing machines and my advice is avoid british made washing machines eg Hotpoint,Hoover etc. They are not meant to last they have poor quality parts which do not last. I'm not saying that they are bad washing machines its just that they are not designed to last. The best washing machines you can get in my opinion are Miele they are built to last I have had one now for 20 years and not had a single fault on it apart from a new belt on the drum which is nothing. They design there washers to last at least 20 years I have been to fix a couple of Miele washing machines and everyone I have been to fix is between 15-20 years old and have all been to replace the belts on the drum, one Miele washing machine I went to replace the belt and it was 28 years old and the man told me he has had 2 belts on it in all that time and not had a single fault otherwise. I'm not saying that if you buy a miele you won't have any faults with it you can get a lemon in anything but generally these are the most reliable built to last washing machines you can buy because after all you get a free 10 year warranty with most Miele washing machines that is a serious gurantee to offer. Another washing machine brand I found was nearly as good as Miele is Siemens but Miele are more expensive but have the edge on Siemens but like anything else you get what you pay for.
