Yes , the lid is hard to pull off so I used my kitchen hose to fill through the spout. That aside, after using it for less than 6 months (making sure the base was dry before replacing it to the base. So, my report is being submitted because one day the spring in the base that closed the circuit was working one day and busted the next rendering the kettle completely useless. I had to fill it to the max 3 times, turn it counter clockwise on base and that worked but sadly it won't work any more. Things sure aren't made the way they used to. It cost me a dollar a day to boil water since it didn't last longer than 6 months. Avoid this product if you want a long lasting relationship with your kettle..dud.

Besides faults already described by other contributors, our Russell Hobbs 3067 sounds like steam roller when coming up to the boil. After 1 years use, water was always present on base, making it dangerous. This comes from plastic tube that runs down the inside of handle, allowing water to come in contact with switch contacts. The kettle now has been intermitant for two weeks and today packed up completely.Having spent most of my working life in the electrical/electronic repair business, I decided to see what was the problem by removing kettle base. What crap!!!!! Vaporstat switch contacts had been arcing, causing connector spade to positive connection to melt its plastic housing, allowing bottom switch contact to come adrift, This kettle has little to commend it, suggest the designers immigrate to a foreign field, they might be better used to ploughing it.

I live in a hard water area and after only a couple of weeks of light use, my Russell Hobbs 3070 Montana kettle started looking really grubby from water marks - not necessarily a problem peculiar to this kettle but worth considering if you also have hard water and fancy a stainless steel kettle. The water marks are impossible to shift.I also hate the lid. It is very difficult to remove as the black plastic handle is too small to get hold of - frustrating when the kettle is cold, and painful when it has just been boiled. The body and the metal part of the lid also get extremely hot.I have had my kettle for a couple of years and the base has recently started sticking to the kettle which means that when you go to lift the kettle to make a nice cup of tea, the base comes with it which is annoying if you don't notice before the cord stops it going any further and you end up spilling just boiled water all over the place (just missed myself a couple of times).One more thing seeing as I am on a roll here - it is really noisy when boiling!My kettle was a present from my Mother in Law so I have put up with it until now, but I will be buying a new kettle this week and it won't be stainless steel or one made by Russell Hobbs.

Looks Good - Satin sheen. Quick boiling and no dribbling - which was my biggest gripe about my old kettle. So, for me, this kettle is great. The lid is tricky to pull off; in fact when in the shop looking at it, as I pulled the lid, it shot out of my hands and fell with a wonderful tinkling sound onto the supermarket floor - but I think it will get easier with use, although I fill it from the spout.

Kettle gets extremely hot, too hot to handle infact! after less than 2 weeks use and by this I mean little use as there is only one person in the household that drinks either tea or coffee, it started to smell of burning plastic and smoked from the base. What a dangerous piece of equipment.

It boils water - until it breaks. Lasted less than a year then went phut! Absolute rubbish

Bought our first Russell Hobbs 3070 kettle in November - three weeks later the handle came off the lid. I took it back and got a replacement, today (you've guessed it) the handle came off the lid. Solution - taking it back tomorrow and replacing with a different brand.

I would say that the lid malfunction when the Russell Hobbs 3070 Montana Cordless kettle is hot is dangerous! I have now returned the kettle to shop, as I felt this rendered it faulty.

i have difficulty removing the lid by grabbing the raised 'handle' piece. i have mild arthritis and find it very difficult to remove the lid. i have to shove it off horizontally instead of lifting it off vertically
