What Am I Doing Wrong ?

Forgot I had this and as it was getting quite cold thought I would use it make some lovely bread to go with the hole made soup. Went for standard loaf and was completely confused by cups, tablespoons and fluid amounts. So I made sure that everything was brought down to grams and mls. Chose a 2lb loaf with dark crust which was about 3hrs. When it finished it was all wet, risen but no cooked so I tried putting onto No. 12 extra bake, still wet so I took the pan out and put it in the oven for about 40minutes. Eureka...cooked bread....disappointing...now I know why it was in the cupboard.

I Have Had This One For Nearly A Year, Received As

I have had this one for nearly a year, received as a wedding present. We no longer buy bread, and enjoy the easy to use breadmachine and the flexability for creativeness with it! Of chorse, you have that advantage with any breadmaker I suppose.

I have had a problem now and then where the bread pand falls off of the spindle which is annoying. Also the removable kneading part in the breadpan has its non stick coating peeling away which definatly isn't good.

Given the choice now, I would opt for a more expensive bread machine to be sure it was long lasting and check its reviews before buying it.

the paddle on my morphy richards breadmaker has been replaced 3 times in as many years as the nonstick coating peels off after a few operations I complained to the company who made no comment just sent me a free blade which has done just the same. my worry is that the non stick coating material as it breaks up could be toxic

Morphy Richards Replaced Our Initial Model After I

Morphy Richards replaced our initial model after it failed within the guarantee period and the replacement has now also failed, after a lifespan of approx 14 months. Something within the body of the machine that connects to the rotating spindle has broken and the paddle no longer rotates. This is hardly a low cost model and I expected more from a quality manufacturer but feel that I should buy a cheaper, competitors product to replace it if 12-14 months is the lifespan of bread makers in general.

Boulanger

This is my 2nd breadmaker in 3 years. Same problem, fails after 15-18 months. The drive washer on underside of pan wears, it jams and then drivebelt inside machine breaks. Expensive to buy a new one every 18 months. Back to the boulangerie, always good bread.

Morphy Richards Fastbake Stainless Steel 48268

Morphy Richards Fastbake Stainless Steel 48268

I have used this for 3 years reasonably successfully although I occasionally get the pan jumping off the spindle problem reported by others. I can't believe MR would say this is supposed to happen, unless they mean as a safety feature, otherwise you would never get dough mixed properly. Sometimes the kneading blade doesn't lie flat and gets stuck in the bread but is easy to remove from the loaf. I found that both of these problems are likely if you don't clean and oil the blade properly and then it is obviously difficult to move. A very small bottle brush is useful for cleaning it out. I never had it too loose though. All the recipes are useful if a little obvious so it is quite easy to use and make up your own. I found you have to use slightly more yeast than recommended and I am always adjusting the recipes. It's important to keep to the proportions otherwise the bread can be too dry. I like the option to have a dark crust, although we tend to use medium mostly. I also like the beep to remind you to add the nuts and seeds. It even works okay on an overnight time delay. The fast loaf is not brilliant in my experience but better than old french stick! This still makes bread better than you buy in a supermarket.

The spindle on my broke after about 500 loaves but was able to order a whole replacement tin assembly for a tenner post free. I hope that this is all it costs me for the next 500!

I Have Inherited This Machine - And It Came Withou

I have inherited this machine - and it came without a manual, so I am working blind and largely by experiment. I have always handmade my bread before, using an Aga, so the idea of using quick acting yeast instead of ordinary dried yeast is new to me. I have made several loaves which have collapsed at the top, although the rest of the loaf and its texture seem fine. Is there a rule which says you should not open the lid whilst it's working? I would be grateful for some tips please!

I find the whole thing a bit large and clumsy, but it is nice not to have to hand-knead the loaf in the early stages.

If you go on the Morphy Richards website then you can download a manual in PDF form which gives instructions and quite a few recipes.

Nice Little Machine The Morphy Richards 48268, But

Nice little machine the Morphy Richards 48268, but big drawback is the small loaf size. 1.5 pound loaf is the largest.

The mixing paddle is the devil to remove from the bottom of the loaf finally leaving a paddle shape hole into the first, second and third slice.

My machine burns the base and outside of the loaf for about one inch up.

Have to say though, I'll never go back to supermarket bread again.

Bread never tasted so good.
