Banger123's review of Skiathos Town, Taxiarchis Apartments

“Room Number 1 avoid if you want a good holiday”

Written on: 17/08/2013 by Banger123 (2 reviews written)

We expected the room to be basic but!!!!
The noise from the main street was going on night and day with motorbikes and revellers passing 24 hrs a day.
The self catering facilities consisted of 2 knives and forks, 2 bowls, 2 side plates 2 cups and 2 glasses. If you wanted to have a main course there wasn't any large plates and more than one course or a different drink you had to wash the one you had used with no tea towel drying facilities.
The fridge sounded like a motorbike without an exhaust and in the night sounded even louder and frequently rattled as if it was about to blow up.
The bathroom was a health and safety hazard when we eventually found the shower head in the middle of the bathroom between the sink at the front and toilet at the back which when the shower was used also splashed onto the electric light fitting over the mirror and left the floor wet and slippery which if you went to the toilet you had to wear shoes and hope you didn't slip on the wet floor. The bathroom was about 3 feet wide with the sink sticking out in to the "shower" area so not a lot of room to manoeuvre. It took all night to eventually dry out and got wet again after the morning showers!!!!!! The door frame was rotten and part missing behind the door.
As it was on the road side for safety and noise reduction we had to keep both the shutters and windows closed during the night ( Air conditioning was a rip off at €47 per week this should be free to allow for the safety of keeping the windows closed)so this made the room unbearably hot to sleep in.
The Pool Bar usually closed about at 03:00 and up till then there was shouting and singing as they passed the "balcony", sleep until then was impossible and coupled with the traffic and passing people the noise was horrendous.
The "balcony" fitted one chair on and was surrounded by plants and leaves the drying rack took the rest of the area up but was also covered in plants and leaves. You couldn't relax before going out or when you came back as only one person could go on the "balcony" at once.
On a plus side the bins were emptied daily and towels changed twice in the week.
We didn't use any other facilities at the hotel on principal so I cannot comment on those.
