“Late feedback lack or no communication”

★★☆☆☆

written by bhaggy on 13/01/2015

Purchased Community Mental Health Course last February with a year to complete feedback and communication at first was good, with quick responses. I am now a month away from finishing my course and feedback communication is terrible my assignment feedback is a month late have left seven emails one to my tutor asking what is happening received nothing helpful. Tutor emails to say my support is ending soon but doesn`t mark my work joke! My Distance Learning number isn`t ringing out what to do?Four weeks left and to assignments needing to submit and collect feedback plus the one i`ve been waiting a month for. Help you be much appreciated as I want to finish the course and collect my certificate.

Hi, I'm the same as you!!! Different course, but I purchased mine on the 10th feb 2014 for 12 months attempted to submit my final assignment last week and its saying I need to purchase additional tutor support even tho I'm paid up til 10th Feb 2015!! I've rung the 0800 number many times to get an automated message saying this number is no longer registered, I've emailed their admin team only to have the email returned saying error email address unknown and I've submitted two urgent tickets on my student dashboard both of which have no reply. I have even contacted the focus awards who supply my certificates for them to agree with me that my support shouldn't have expired yet but they cant help me. I am now totally lost and upset as I have spent almost a year on this course for what now seems to be absolutely nothing!!!! Would you email me if you have any update?? Wish you luck

After A LOT of pestering I have finally got somewhere! With no look from my distance learning I emailed the company I brought the course from ncc learning who got the ball rolling. I received an email on my dashboard stating that there helpline was disabled due to the high volume of queries which they wanted to answer first. My tutor eventually gave me feedback and extra tutor support. It's nice to know things are looking more positive but I still have a way to go with getting the rest of my work marked, course completion and certificates.
Let me know how you get on!

“Very basic course - only suitable for interest not CPD”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 18/06/2014

Thought forensic science course sounded very interesting so through groupon applied. Only paid for electronic version of notes, which you cant copy or print. Notes had many spelling errors which I thought was very inappropriate for a course! I only had 3 assignments to complete and they were multiple choice questions. If you chose you wouldn't even need to read the course notes to submit the assignments. You would get an email saying they would be marked within 10 days - however they were obviously marked electronically as they results would be back in seconds. At one stage I lost all my notes for the review task that were meant to be saved on the system. After several emails contacting support this issue wasn't resolved - luckily you don't need the review question notes. Very confusing system for submitting a query. Overall I am not happy that I paid £40 for a course that I cant keep the notes for, and I'm not even sure of the validity of the certificate - BE CAREFUL - CHECK CAREFULLY BEFORE ENROLLING

Thank you for your review of the Forensic Science Course.

The course you purchased is non-accredited therefore is ideal for personal fulfilment, to increase knowledge for enjoyment or hobby purposes, and to gain insights into new subjects. This is clearly explained on our website.

The course is designed to be accessible for students who want to learn more about Forensic Science without the need to complete assignments.

Our course materials are reviewed regularly and I can assure that given your comments we will check this course for any issues. The online course that you purchased allows you access to the course materials through our student portal, the documents are protected, so you would be unable to print these. However, we do offer printed course pack upgrades should our students request this for an additional fee.

We are working constantly on our Student Portal and will take your comments on board for further evaluation.

“HTLA Level 4 Course ”

★★☆☆☆

written by Hanleyui404 on 30/05/2014

it has been interesting reading all the reviews of courses. I was tempted to book a HTLA level 4 course via a coupon price reduction scheme. I have done some research however, and am concerned that the course is now accredited by Focus Awards, whose address is the same as My Distance Learning College, and not the well recognised ncfe. Also the blurb actually states (again upon research) that this course is accredited but is not actually a Qualification-more a CPD course-so may not be accepted by employers. I think I will not, at this time, take this any further. all the reviews have been helpful.

Thank you for your review.

My Distance Learning College provides a number of different types of courses for students. This ranges from non-accredited courses for hobby/fun purposes through to nationally recognised qualifications in a number of areas. The HLTA course that I believe you are referring to can help in securing employment within a school and will also help prepare students to take on the challenge of being a HLTA.

is clear that the requirements for Teaching Assistants and Higher Level Teaching Assistants varies depending on the LEA, however to achieve HLTA status you would need experience and the support of the school. Our course is there to help prepare you for this and the demands expected of a HLTA. The same applies for any other accredited course as it is dependent on the LEA and not the college. As previously stated MyDistance Learning College provide a number of Nationally Recognised Qualifications as detailed on the link above such as our Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools.

If you require any advice or guidance on the requirements of schools in your area I would suggest that you contact the local LEA for further information. If you would like clarification on our courses and help deciding what may be the best course for you, please don't hesitate to contact us.

“Search through Wowcher before you pay full price!”

★★☆☆☆

written by JaidynDickey83 on 29/05/2014

I am studying Zoology through this college simply because I'm on my summer break from university, found a really good deal on Wowcher and am looking to make it seem like I'm more determined on my CV. I have absolutely no idea how creditable this course is, and to be perfectly honest, I don't really care. I only paid £40 for the course but I certainly wouldn't pay what they ask on the website. I'm on my fourth out of five assignments and so far I've used the course content once. As you need to reference your sources, I've simply used Google to help me answer all of the questions. I understand that some people will have been out of education for a long time, some are genuinely looking to learn something new, some may be computer illiterate and others may find working online unnatural. However whether you have these skills or not, don't be roped into buying books. It's really not worth it for the length of the course. I've read many many bad reviews of this college and that scared me a little when I signed up, but I thought £40 is nothing to lose for the sake of another qualification to put on my CV. If you genuinely have no other options but to enroll on an online course to get a job you want, I wouldn't recommend this college- try something more professional such as the Open University which is more expensive but actually recognised by employers. However if you are simply looking to do it as more of a hobby or a time filler then you could learn a bit. So far I've already learned everything which is involved in the course content, but I suppose that's a good sign that they cover all the basics for people travelling down a completely new career path. Another issue I've had, which was mentioned many times in reviews I myself read before enrolling, is that whilst MDLC claims to have great tutor support, I have received little of what has been promised. When I handed in my first assignment the feedback form was very basic and gave no indication other than "you have passed" "you answered this question correctly" "you described what you were asked" etc. I would hope that they would be much more helpful if somebody had failed an assignment, but I still have 2 to go so let's see! Again I'd like to reiterate my title- look on Wowcher before you purchase any course from the website. £160 is a hell of a saving to make, especially when you could be as disappointed as me and hundreds of other people who have reviewed this college.

“Problems, problems, problems”

★★☆☆☆

written by Daniels196 on 12/04/2014

I bought a wowcher voucher for a discounted course, it has took 2 weeks to get access to the questions, Done assignment 1 and 2 and it says the course is completed. Now to me this is not a course at all, you pay for a course and expect to get a course. Customer services have however responded quite quickly to all my issues, but I am disgusted at the cost just to answer 2 assignments, which by the way were multiple choice questions, which also wasn't mentioned when I enrolled onto the course. I have seen a lot of reviews on here, and yes you have a lot of students, but that is no excuse to treat people like this.

“Late feedback and late replies from tutors.”

★★☆☆☆

written by downuk on 29/05/2013

I am a very disappointed due to delay in feedback every time an assignment is handed in.Also contacting your tutor and getting a reply is a tough job. You have to keep asking until some day someone responds. In my opinion my distance learning college offers great courses but their student support sucks. Will not do another course with this college for sure.
