“Ok ( For the Price) But only Just”

★★★☆☆

written by originalgrumps on 14/04/2014

Bought from Aldi at a good price and frankly, at the price, was not expecting the earth. Intially I could not get item to fire up so contacted the ( third party) support service ( BVG Airflo). In the interim I tried the choke in the opposite position to that shown in the manual and hey presto it sprang into life. The service people responded and vaguely agreed re wrong makings re the choke position. I have used the item twice now, and on the second occasion after appx 45 min use, the rocker switch stuck in the on position, so I had to whip off the spark plug lead to stop it from running on and on. Despite this I was quite imprssed with the overal performance of the machine on the large Laurel hedge I was tackling. I am currently awaiting response / remedy from BVG Airflo for a remedy for defective on / off switch. Hopefully the solution will not involve any hassle, otherwise it will be 'tilt' time for me and I will demand my money back. ??

Device runs fine for a few minutes, but then conks out - even when I am not trying to throttle it. Could this be air/fuel mix? I have not used it since Autumn of last year.

Got the hedge trimmer given as a gift,i am not sure about the fuel mixing ratio. If i fill the mixing container to 500 with petrol how much oil do i put in?. There seems to be a lot of other markings for oil. can someone spell it out for me? Thanks

The hedge trimmer works on a 40:1 ratio of petrol to two stroke oil. The trimmer normally comes with a bottle marked up to 600ml of petrol on the left hand side of a vertical line. On the right hand side of the vertical line, marked 'oil', there is a line above the 600ml line which is 15ml. So fill to 600ml with petrol then top up with oil to the top line. If you only use 500ml of petrol, you have to add 12.5ml of oil. Do not add too much oil or it will be very smokey & foul the spark plug.

The blades should not run at all on tick over. Are you sure you have the choke fully open when you open the throttle. If it's closed it may flood the cylinder & cause the motor to stall

Close the choke for initial starting. Slide the stop button, which is on top of the handle, towards you. Prime the carburettor by pressing the see through bubble until it fills with the petrol/oil mixture. Then pull the starter handle. Once it starts, the choke should be opened when the motor is running strongly. In warm conditions you may not have to close the throttle completely.

I have an instruction manual for Gardenline hedge trimmer, Model No 8108, 08/2011. If that's any use, send me your email address & I'll photograph the operation instructions & email them to you. Alternatively, I can send the manual to you for £1.

I called the help line & was given an alternative number for spares. Unfortunately I didn't keep the number but when I called, I was asked to email a photograph of the part I needed together with the hedge trimmer product number.  I didn't pursue the contact as I couldn't remove the damaged flywheel which seems to need a specialist puller. Good luck with the email address.

The high tension lead is pushed onto the top of the spark plug and has rubber cap. Peel the rubber cap back & pull tyre ht cable off the top of the plug. If you bought the trimmer as new, you will have a plug spanner in a polythene bag. Use it to unscrew the plug.

I bought a 25CC Aldi petrol hedge trimmer yesterday. Mixed 40:1 ratio petrol to 2 stroke oil into tank. The machine started up and ran for two minutes, very happy. Then it died. I checked the petrol in the bulb. I have tried on number of occasions to start it up, still no luck. I used the choke in different positions. It just would not start. Please can you help me. What could be wrong with it?

Put 40:1 petrol: 2 stroke oil in the fuel tank. Make sure the red button on top of the handle is pulled back. Close the black choke lever. Depress the transparent petrol primer bulb repeatedly until you see petrol flowing through the fuel pipe. Pull the starter handle repeatedly until the motor starts. As the motor warms up, gradually open the choke. Once fully open and running smoothly, it should then be ready to go. To stop the motor, push the red button forward.
